Don’t want to be overly critical, good win. At the same time, we just don’t have a very good midfield, our lack of goals and inability to keep the ball and dominate, is clear. Obviously hearts today is tough, but it’s the same weekly.

we’re definitely a square peg round hole team. Armstrong on the left, then clarkson. Thought aouchiche had his best game yet today, but I just don’t think we have any central midfielders worth building around long term (not including kjarten) and little width of any real quality.

no clue what we do with topi or milanovic, neither look the level of ability and consistency. Is milanovic the next McGarry??

Very pleasing to win and especially being so crap and still ending their winning run. Still can't figure out what our style of play is though. Grinding out results will do I guess but not much entertainment on show.

Add that to my post. Definitely a period of transition and figuring out who stays and who we move on. At the same time, definitely positive with character building, grinding out results, and improved defending.

jack Milne and McKenna should be starting central pairing next June!

Thought we were ok first half, didnt keep it up second and allowed them to squander a few chances. We had good phases of play though, and we were pretty aggresive across the pitch for most of the game.

Top Dons - Knoester,Milne,Armstrong.Aouchiche.Topi seemed to be up for it too,had good and bad spells throughout the game again.

Always nice to beat that lot though.....👍

Actually reckon some of the comments so far are on the harsh side; I thought we had some really nice play at times in the game. Maybe a bit lucky at times but we're due some of that. Far, far better than that diabolical display against Motherwell.

Got Joy Division in my head, for some reason ;D

Excellent win, the effort and application were spot on so credit for that to all.

Real shades of the Killie game there today though. First half we were decent, second half was a bit of a no show - again.

The defence is much more solid than earlier in the season, but fuck me, we’re still massively vulnerable to balls over the top and set pieces into the box.

saw this scenario several tines. Mitov goal kick goes straight to their defender, no challenge, free header back over the top we didn’t deal with well and they had a chance & attempt on goal. Happened 3 or 4 times. Rode our luck there.

Mitov coming for that ball and getting nowhere near it again - he needs to cut that crap out.

Midfield put in a shift, Aouchiche especially, though Polvara and especially Armstrong were decent. Lazetic did ok, would like to see a bit more from him though.

I get we’re trying to be hard to beat, but this sitting back stuff (like Killie) does my head in. We should not be getting dominated at home like we were second half.

JT goes on about transitions and how important they are, well Jimmy, yer nae gonna do much in transition if your players are just gonna constantly hoof it back to the opposition every time they pick it up in our half. Need to sort that out.

Still, it’s always great to beat that mob and their deluded minker fans, so very happy tonight, though lots of work still to be done…

Walking home down King St. and on the opposite side of the road there was a wee girl with her parents singing "Hearts, Hearts are falling apart again" over and over - somebody has been brought up proper!

Yup! Almost another game I am pissed off at the end. Second half again was just wave upon wave to an extent. Hoof up the part and another attack. No clue what we practice in training…? Good defending practice again but we got lucky.

Add to that - Mitov punching the ball instead of catching it and also not releasing it quickly enough when we could counter attack (or transition if you prefer).  Thought Aouchiche should have scored in the first half (their miss was even worse).

We had folks round for lunch so had to go dark and then watch as live on RedTV. I know it wasn’t pretty and we exercised very little control, but i loved that. We fought and won against the league leaders . I’ll take that.

thought the back 3 were generally excellent.

A good performance, without a standout player. Everyone worked hard, and we were disciplined throughout, generally speaking. I'd probably give Armstrong the man of the match for us, as he was the one that seemed most assured. Jensen was good too, and the back three and keeper each had a dodgy moment, but survived. Midfield worked hard, and closed the spaces very well, but Polvara got caught in possession too many times, and both were weak in the tackle. They were a decent team, but with the spine of their side missing, didn't really cause us many issues. It didn't feel like we were one ahead playing against the top side in the league. There are several sides in this league that will beat them with those players, or equivalent, missing. A deserved victory for the first half certainly. The subs were an abomination again. It felt like a preseason friendly, with half the team changed in the space of five minutes. It was unfair on the players coming on, as well as being high risk. The subs should have started around the hour mark, when players (Lobban, Polvara, Lazetic) began to fail. We looked all over the shop, unsurprisingly, with Clarkson especially looking bamboozled playing on the left fucking wing (almost like he's attempting to teach him a lesson, or just generally alienate him). Anyway, a very good win, and another clean sheet.

Being hard to beat is a definite thing, and I definitely think we are showing a lot of strength in character these days, we certainly work hard defensively for these points. At the same time, we need to be better in attack. We could have crumbled after the league start, but we haven’t done that, and beating hearts today is a very good win for us.

Was an excellent start to my Monday morning, waking up to this result. Had hopes this was gonna happen, but there seemed to be so many uncertainties re: the line ups of both teams. Looking forward to catching the highlights at lunchtime! Already seen the goal, was a classic Topi goal that we know he can and should score more of.

I was only half watching it today so didn't get a proper look at it.

My take though was Derek McInnes made a mistake by naming a two-man midfield, especially with Baningime out. In the last few weeks, Hibs and Motherwell have demolished our midfield by adding an extra man. We looked like we could pass through their midfield pretty easily at times.

It also looked like three at the back from Hearts. We're not a team that pepper the opposition box with crosses, so it looked like a man wasted from Hearts, and in the first half we always had an extra man outside their box getting to second balls.

In the second half we gave the ball away and invited pressure. It looked like a 6-3-1 formation once Shinnie and the rest came on, we had no out ball.

Still improvements needed but will take the three points.

I think my favourite domestic match at Pittodrie. Loved that team/squad.

I remember phoning my dad from a phone box in King Street straight after to rave about us.

I can’t believe it’s 33 years ago, I can still hear Scottie Booths goal hitting off the underside of the bar.

28th November 1992, or 33 years ago this Friday.

I had only just turned 19.

Our line up...
Snelders, Wright, McLeish, Irvine, Smith, Bett, Grant, Richardson, Jess, Mason, Shearer.

Subs: Booth & Kane

Scorers: Irvine, Shearer x3, Mason & Booth.

We'd be winning the lot with that team today.

Great result but that was a hard watch at times. Cannot fault teams work rate but we struggled to retain ball and created little. Keskinen took his goal well but match winner was Jack Milne for block in second half. Subs as someone has already said were terrible. Made at wrong time and too many at once. Hearts even taking injuries into consideration did not look like a good side. They will get caught by Victims. Train back was fun. Think I was getting lynched if my phone “accidentally” played Joy Division one more time.

How we won that yesterday I will never know but will take it, but I hope this is not a sign of things to come as that was pretty dire stuff. First half was ok second half we were awful

Thought Jack Milne was our best player by a country mile, Armstrong was also decent and to be fair to Topi he had one of his better games, the rest of them were pretty much meh. I know Milanovic was only on the park for about 10 mins but even that is 10 minutes too much
We really need to be starting especially our home games with two up front, Lazetic seems to struggle in the lone striker role in the same way that Nisbet does. I would really like to see the two of them playing along side each other as I am sure that could be the answer to our goal scoring problems.

A win is a win and great to burst the diets bubble, but we do need to play much much better

He'd have been a slightly better match winner if he hadn't missed the original header! As he did in the first half too. In fact, if you go through their chances, there was probably only one created from a good move (the lad on the left getting deep into our box before being crowded out). Milne got caught under the long ball in either half, Knoester did similar in the second, losing a ball he seemed to have under control, and then Devlin tried a difficult pass back instead of just clearing it for a throw. The rest of their opportunities came from set pieces (albeit there were maybe a couple of good moves to win corners).
