Yup. Not really what we need in my opinion other than Scottish and experienced. Guess we’ll find out! Quote
redordead Posted yesterday at 22:45 Report Posted yesterday at 22:45 (edited) I think he's a very good player and can play anywhere across the front. Certainly better than topi or milanovic. Surprised he didn't have better offers but that might suggest his fitness is suspect. It'll piss off the arabs though, they love him. Edited yesterday at 22:45 by redordead Quote
Panda Posted yesterday at 22:50 Report Posted yesterday at 22:50 Timed his move well. I've only just come to peace with his goal in the 2017 Scottish Cup final, after the events of 24 May this year. Never rated him for Scotland, I look forward to being annoyed at him in an Aberdeen shirt now. But, something about Stuart Armstrong and Aberdeen just seems right. 1 1 Quote

No he doesn't, we already have 4 trained in league in Devlin, Shinnie, Nisbet and Frame. Could be we drop frame from the euro squad and have Armstrong in his place 1 Quote
tlg1903 Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago Just watched Armstrongs interview on RTV. Dare I say it but this could be a very canny bit of business. I'd forgotten how calm and measured he is when speaking 2bh (which I bet Jimmy loves) but I'd also kinda forgotten just how much he's done in the game. 50 caps for Scotland, loads of euro experience with the tims as well as winning trophies and off the top of my head he must have played at least 100 games in the EPL. I think he will bring a very wise and calm head in the attacking areas and be a great player for the likes of Aouchiche, Clarkson, Palaversa and Polvara to learn from. This is the third signing in a row as well that is bringing a wealth of experience for our young squad to learn from. Karlsson is going to be fantastic for Topi, Milanovic and Bilalovic to train with..... he's literally been where they are with the same manager he had at the time. Nisbet could be great for Lazetic and even though he's 25 Yengi too. The club still haven't put up anything to say our business has been concluded it's worth noting but given the deadline to register for europe has passed I'm not holding my breath. Our business over the past 2 days has been worth the wait though I would say? If the last 3 signings work out well that is likely transformational for our season..... And why wouldn't they? One was at the club last season, did well, and he comes back to us in far better condition then we first got him, he's good to go. The next is probably too good for the league, certainly too good for us, and has a great pre existing relationship with the manager..... I surely can't be the only person that is really having to put effort into not getting their hopes up too much at just how big a player Jesper Karlsson could be for us? Lastly Armstrong knows the league inside out, has lived in Aberdeen before and see above for what he brings to the table. If the youth we have brought in can kick on and show why we signed them this potentially could turn out to be one of the best windows the club has ever had. Quote

From what I’ve seen to date, and it’s a very small sample size, aouchiche doesn’t know quite where to play, and we’re not certain what to do with him. He roams a lot, and we need a 10 more central and wiser. Put Armstrong behind lazetic/nisbet and I think he’s the missing piece and fills that central space, aouchiche will only benefit from his knowledge. I think Armstrong will be more settling and disciplined in many ways. I think milanovic benefits playing with Armstrong inside and nisbet up top, instead of two young guys trying to figure things out and prove themselves. as you say, trying not to get my hopes up with karlsson but when you look at the falkirk game I think topi had 2 chances and milanovic 2 first half, most cutting in, no goals. Based on the highlights I think we’ve got a guy who finds the net. international break is good for us, gives us time to train and gel, don’t think too many are away too. Certainly excited for the livi game. Edited 21 hours ago by OrlandoDon 2 Quote

Certainly excited for the livi game. My feeling is with Aouchice is that maybe he's trying to do too much. Like, he's come with this psg legacy and now he's in Scotland so surely he must be lighting it up and has that to prove to himself if anyone else. Armstrong coming in defo takes a bit of pressure off him to be the spark in the centre every game and that could be great for him. Agree Armstrong laying in Nisbet sounds sexy. Defo excited for the Livi game though wary at the same time. Martindale knows what he is doing, Livi are a solid team and we will need to play well to beat them. I have far more confidence that we will after the last 36 hours. Edited 21 hours ago by tlg1903 1 Quote
manc_don Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago Desperately trying not to get too excited but my perspective has changed completely over the last 32 hours. These are the players we needed and in all honesty (karlsson aside) I expected us to sign after cormacks big spiel post final. Fantastic stuff. Karlsson (on paper) is next level, still can’t believe we’ve landed him. The project players should now make sense, and hopefully have the right characters to learn from. I did find it interesting that Thelin said that Nisbet helps us provide an identity for the team. He’s not wrong. 1 Quote

I think it was Panda that posted a few days back words to the effect that we had livi then a motherwell double header and that 3 wins would transform us........ and I remember thinking that was optimistic. I don't now, we have added craft and guile to the front line comparable to anyone in the league (imo anyway, other opinions are available) and who thought we would be able to say that a few days ago. 2 Quote
BigAl Posted 18 hours ago Author Report Posted 18 hours ago Jesus Christ, the time difference here means I have missed this. Only just woken up to the news. Fuck sake guys imagine even on Monday lunchtime saying that within the next thirty six hours we would sign three internationalists one after the other. Fair play to Dave and the board for the backing they are giving Thelin, and here's to an up turn in fortunes. @OrlandoDon you must be mildly euphoric mate 3 Quote

wokinginashearerwonderland Posted 14 hours ago Report Posted 14 hours ago Holy fuck, we actually have some players born in this country. In all seriousness, this is a game changer and I think this has actually saved Thelin’s job because the way things were, it was a matter of time before he was heading for the exit door. Nisbet is the closest thing you’ll get to buying guaranteed goals. He’s sure to chalk up 40+ goals in the next three years which makes a huge difference. And yes, he is 33 but Armstrong is a fantastic footballer. Hope he is still up to it physically because a couple of seasons ago he would have been head and shoulders above anything else we had in our team. Quote
Panda Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago So here's us at the moment. If Sokler and Ambrose leave, I think there's still room for another striker (Ginnelly?). Gonna take a wee while to get the team gelling, but once it does we might actually be a no bad team. Quote

It doesn't look too bad. I'd start Armstrong over Aouchiche if he's fit. Fullbacks are a bit poor, and the midfield is crying put for legs (what we should be getting from Palaversa basically). The other problem being that we've not got much of a plan B, and a few injuries to the players that make things happen and we turn into the nice looking but easy to beat team we've seen since the middle of last season. Reekie_Red Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago Odd signing. For me, Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven always came as a pair. Where GMS was the maverick, Armstrong was the predictable. Weve had the "maverick", so lets see what the "predictable" can do Quote

I agree re Jensen but don't know whether Gyamfi or Frame are any good so wouldn't put either into the poor bracket just yet. I also think that not adding legs to our midfield was a glaring omission in this window. Edited 10 hours ago by KGB Quote
Elgindon Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago (edited) Well, were getting closer at least to a very good squad, that missing midfielder would have been nice, maybe a more scarce commodity than we'd like, hopefully have someone in our sights during the January window,in time for the title charge(assuming thats us done for now?) Cant remember ever saying...really looking forward to the Livi game Edited 9 hours ago by Elgindon Quote

Never quite happened for him but a couple of his goals stand out, at home v Frankfurt and away at Easter Road. Good luck with the rest of your career. Quote

As much as I knew it wouldn’t happen, Yengi should have been the one to go out on loan. Definitely had his chances and was never able to step up properly, big shame his career with us ends like this.
