Panda Posted Sunday at 11:53 Report Posted Sunday at 11:53 That bloke we were linked with from Girona has barely touched the ball in the Old Firm game. Only action of note was a dive in the box. Looks like we've dodged a bullet there... Quote
RicoS321 Posted Sunday at 19:59 Report Posted Sunday at 19:59 Tomorrow is a huge day for us. There's a lot riding on any signings we make. I said at the end of last season that I was glad that we didn't make European group stage football, as we were nowhere near ready for it. Unfortunately our cup triumph scuppered that! Eight extra games before Christmas is ridiculous, and we could see today the toll that is going to take. We don't have the depth in quality, and we're nowhere near it either. Midfielder has to be the priority, and we have to be looking at someone mid to late twenties. With Sokler away, we could be doing with someone quick through the middle. Neither Milanovic or Keskinen are actually that quick, so someone to replace Morris (unless Bilalovic is rapid, it was difficult to tell, but he might be). The midfielder is a must, with the other two just a hope. It'll be difficult, and I suspect we might be way down our list already. There'll be a lot of crossed fingers within Pittodrie that Lazetic and Bilalovic meet the standard (I think they will). Overall though, regardless of what happens tomorrow, I think the squad building has been pretty awful. For at least the last four seasons. The complete lack of balance is frustrating. Minimal internal youth progression, no proven players that are relatively risk free from the SPFL, no proven players in the midst of their career from elsewhere, no Scottish players. With Morris gone, there is no longer a player that can single handedly allow us to change approach, and it doesn't really seem like our system changes offer too much in the way of actual change (because our players - in their respective positions - are very similar). Cormack's strategy of going for project players has worked in some senses, but it hasn't returned a particularly good team, and it's exceptionally transient in design. I don't think it's working. 2 Quote
manc_don Posted Sunday at 21:30 Report Posted Sunday at 21:30 I think you're probably being a bit generous in all honesty. I'd say we haven't had a good balance for nigh on 8-9 years now? Essentially since the golden generation of the early McInnes teams. It was a steady decline of balance which has now got to breaking point. We really lack any sort of identity at the moment, apart from our fans do cool shit. But as a team, we're very beige. To have left it this long, knowing that these problems were going to exist is borderline negligent. Project players are fine, providing the spine is there to support them. It doesn't exist. Huge 24 hours for the club, as so far, they've well and truly scuppered the momentum from the cup win. Quote

Team balance under McInnes generally didn't work because he made mistakes in the transfer window. He'd identify a key position and then sign someone like Greg Tansey to fill it. GMS and Stewart to replace Hayes and McGinn almost looks sensible on paper. McInnes' problem is that nobody was there to question his signings, and also that nobody was there to pressure him into playing youth players (which we're still not seeing). Cormack's bravado ensured that we spent three managers trying to implement the change in approach, but we're clearly still not getting it right. It's like everyone is so focused on getting the next big moneymaking signing, that we're ignoring the bigger squad picture. I would suggest, perhaps, that a technical fucking director might be asking questions were they to exist. 2 Quote

Not having the Sporting/Technical Director position filled 18 months after the review of club set up identified the need for one is probably my biggest concern. As you say we seem to focused on the next project to earn us a big sale rather than developing players for long term future of club. Sporting Director should be there to oversee that. Difficult to bring one on now with manager and head of recruitment already in place. Sporting Director should have been first appointment. 2 Quote
manc_don Posted yesterday at 09:17 Report Posted yesterday at 09:17 Thanks for the memories, Shady Mo! A cup winner and a super sub. Hope we’ve got someone as good if not better about to sign up. He provided a point of difference which this team severely lacks Quote
JessianK Posted yesterday at 09:31 Report Posted yesterday at 09:31 All the best Shady Mo, Luton have a nice article on their website https://www.lutontown.co.uk/en/news/welcome-to-luton-shayden-morris 1 Quote
redordead Posted yesterday at 09:42 Report Posted yesterday at 09:42 Gutted to see him go. I really hope it was a decent fee because he's a game changer. 1 Quote
RicoS321 Posted yesterday at 10:43 Report Posted yesterday at 10:43 Good lad. Pace gets you very far in the game, but he added to it with hard work and a good attitude after a very ropey start. Good luck to him. 1 Quote
Panda Posted yesterday at 11:25 Report Posted yesterday at 11:25 Good luck to Shady Mo, but Luton can fuck off - making their move on the eve of a Europa League play-off. I know they're not used to playing in Europe so maybe didn't know it was happening, but was poor form. And their airport is shite. 1 Quote
OrlandoDon Posted yesterday at 11:29 Report Posted yesterday at 11:29 Curious to see what today brings. Has to be at minimum 3. Winger, CM, and forward. I’d be happy with 3 loans rather than 3 panic buys. curious to hear the responses, would you be happier with hale or nisbet? I will be disappointed if it’s nisbet tbh, I’m not a fan. allan Campbell, Mikey Johnson, and hale??? Quote
tlg1903 Posted yesterday at 11:46 Report Posted yesterday at 11:46 For the best, he was probably never signing a new deal and we have made a profit on him which just a year ago no-one would have believed. Quote

If Lazetic turns out to be decent, I really don't see the point in Nisbet, who is very similar. We need options that vary in my opinion, but Thelin doesn't believe so. Ideally we'd have Nisbet and another, and in that case Hale would be a great choice. Then get Ambrose away and Yengi on loan. Realistically, though, we've got one day. Quote

Sokler has had his chances, time to move him on, hale is a good replacement for Sokler and dabbagh. Lazetic replaces nisbet and we have Ambrose and yengi. Like it or not, yengi isn’t going anywhere and is in our ‘3 striker’ front line. very small glimpse but lazetic looked decent yesterday. Quote

We say Yengi isn't going anywhere, but if we get Nisbet, then that's three strikers who are exactly the same, and if you could categorise Ambrose as a footballer - which you can't - then he'd be in the same bracket. They are all supposed to be players that can link play, hold it up and bring in the inverted wingers, with the number 10 close by and ready to move beyond. Neither of them stretch play, can get the ball over the top, run the lines etc. Ambrose is obviously done, but Yengi will get zero minutes if we get Nisbet in. As I said previously, as bad as Ambrose is, he should have been given the opportunity to play regular football last season at another side. Yengi too. Quote

Maybe Sokler will stay put if we can't get anyone else in. Quote
