Do learn to read Panda. I posted a video and said "from the look of it he's one of the most technically gifted players we have signed in decades". I've not stated anything as a fact, far less "announced" it, only spoken my hunch from viewing a highlight reel (and, as a first impression, I stand by it btw). I know you work in sports journalism and spinning what someone has said must be second nature but that doesn't make it true.
-
Hard to say for sure without actually seeing him play a few games but probably the early 90's 2bh. That was the last time we could afford to sign genuinely technical players.
-
I also watched this and Ambrose never broke into the PSG first team at 17 2bf. From the look of it this boy is one of the most technically gifted player we have signed in decades. Add into that a good attitude and it's hard to see a player like that fail in our league.

Welcome! And thank you for your assessment, I've just spent the last ten minutes trying to find that kind of detail from a Mackem and then you just drop it here. FWIW I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Sunderland, one of the best bosses I ever had was a diehard Sunderland fan so I'm always pleased for him when you do well. The club statement has him down as a no 10 so i doubt he will ever be out wide unless it's an emergency. I can guarantee we will have plenty of runners for him though and my excitement at this signing is growing almost exponentially just that you say that. In Morris, Keskinen and Milanovic we have three of the quickest wingers in the league and with the kind of service you're implying they will have a field day.

I don't know about anyone else but I had to rub my eyes and re-read the first few paragraphs when I realised it said we had signed a 22yo that was able to break into the psg first team at 17 and manage a goal to.

Seems as good a place to put this as any. Long post alert but worth a read of both articles, particularly the first. https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/news/young-players-given-greater-flexibility-to-move-during-key-development-stage-as-cooperation-system-launches-in-scotland/ I have to say on the face of it this is a really good idea and SFA should be commended. Interestingly Aberdeen have opted out of the new u19 league https://www.afc.co.uk/2025/07/03/strategic-changes-to-aberdeen-fcs-youth-pathway/ and we are hiring a transition coach to manage the jump between u17 and first team. This seems a quite bold move from the club but they are clearly buying into cooperation agreements as a means and I don't blame them. Being able to put three of our best out somewhere and be able to send them back and forward will be great. There's no having to worry about keeping them around as a just in case back up which can be a real block for the just about there but not quite players getting loans. It will be interesting to see how the cub approach using this system.

Good luck to him

He wouldn't need to be registered for Europe anyway due to his age and being at the club for more than two years. Agreed it's a surprising move though, in Jimmy we trust I suppose.

Just watched his RTV interview, poor lad looked really uncomfortable but, as was mentioned at the end, it was his first ever on screen interview and in a language that is not his own. He does look very serious for an 18 yo though, he basically says he's a no 6 that likes to drive forward with the ball. Speaking of which this does make me wonder if Polvara will be playing behind the striker next season (assuming he doesn't leave). We already had Shinnie, Palaversa, Clarkson and Nilsen vying for those roles and he's always been a bit of an awkward fit in the def mid role.

“I got a warm welcome from the guys, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. “ Aberdeen is a big club in Iceland, we know the history with the European cups, so it was an easy decision to come here. “It’s a good move for this stage in my career and I think the Scottish game will suit my style of play." Clearly he's Jim Bett's lovechild
-
It would be too funny if he got injured in the first league cup match and was out for ages after all that.
-
Aye, his wage demands would be prohibitive but I could see him sitting in that no 10 spot being very effective for us.
-
Armstrong would interest me but apparently Wrexham are after him
-
Yeah me too, how quick is he Manc? Saw him doing sprints in video put up on the first day back to pre season and he looked pretty rapid but it's not so easy to be sure over such short distances.
-
Nice RTV interview up with Milanovic if anyone's interested. He comes across well, seems quite intelligent.
-
I must admit I have quite enjoyed a lot of games I've watched
-
The country ran out of ink before they could finish it

I mentioned this to my Jambo neighbour just there to see if I could get his blood pressure up a bit but he reckons a Saudi club are now sniffing about Shankland and if true he will surely be away for one last payday.

I wouldn't be pissed off if we signed him by any stretch either, he's a really good goal scorer at this level. I'm far from convinced he's better than Nisbet though, they are different types of forward though. Indeed if squad registration and fee wasn't a factor I would much prefer to sign Nisbet again than Shankland as he's already had a season of Thelinball and knows most of the players already. Realistically though Shankland is free and ticks the reg box so of course you sign him if that's an option. Maybe we should be looking at signing both of them....................... If anything else the seethe from Edinburgh would be hilarious
-
You're too kind Al I was pissed off when we let him go in the first place to be honest. Overall though I thought he did well at Livi, he was a pain in the arse to play against and he's scored afew against us since he left too. Not so sure how he did at Killie but he would get a lot more chances in front of goal with us and I think he would do just fine.
-
.................... ......... Come to think of it Shankland appears to be available and he would also tick the trained at club box....... I would prefer the Baggio from Banff to the Slabhead from the Slagheap though.

My big concern at the mo is euro registration rules. 25 places, 4 of which must be homegrown at club (which is trained at the club for at least 3 years before they are 21) and 8 must be homegrown in country (same rules but at any scottish club). For every place you can't fill with one or the other or both you lose a space in your squad. Eg you only have 3 players trained at club and 8 trained in country you can only register 24 players. Players under 21 don't need to be registered as long as they have been at the club for two years. At the moment we have 4 scots in the squad over 21. Shinnie, Devlin, Duncan and Milne so as things stand we can only register 21 players to play in Europe. Currently, assuming that the 4 above are registered, that would mean not registering one of: Suman, Nilsen, Polvara, Gueye, Palaversa, Yengi, Clarkson, Sokler, Morris, Rubezic, Topi, Milanovic, Molloy, Mitov, Gyamfi, Jensen, Knoester or Tobers. Not included in that list as I suspect they won't be here by then is Richard Jensen , Ambrose and Vinny. When it's looked at like this I think we need to be moving on Ruby and probably Sokler as well and replacing them with Scots. I tell you what, it maybe wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to have a look at bringing Bruce Anderson back perhaps. He's trained at club and absolutely capable at SPFL level. Given we have 4 centre halves all of whom are JT picked you could argue we don't really need Ruby anyway so it wouldn't necessarily have to be a like for like replacement for him.

There's a really good interview with the Chairman up on RTV in case anyone missed it.
-
Where the fuck did Millwall pull 5 million from? If memory serves Nisbet was their record signing prior to this. Regardless my feeling was that we weren't going back in for any player we had on loan last season.

2-1 flamengo, this is a fun game so far
