  1. Sadly so in some cases
  2. I'll be totally honest Kow, reading through that old thread was more interesting than Mackie's fledgling coaching career. Proper blast from the past stuff
  3. I would be a bit surprised if he went, he did say early in pre season when there was speculation about that he had no desire to move. I suspect it might be different story if, say, a team like Newcastle came in for him though. So we look to be signing an att mid? Not really the player we are needing regardless of a 6 mill price tag, I would much prefer to get Ness. if we don't sign someone of his ilk expect at least 4 months of Shinnie in midfield.
  4. It's certainly not the way I would have gone but I'm way more cavalier about such things.
  5. In the universe where we were the better side for the second half, celtic never looked like scoring until the depressingly predictable dodgy pen. If it had gone 2-2 at any point leading up to that we would have been worth it. That said I don't disagree with some of your other points. One of the frustrating things about DM is he is far too cautious and that clearly showed with the attempt to stifle Celtic. I can understand the logic, they're on fire going forward and have been particularly potent straight from the traps so keep it tight at the back to frustrate the sizeable crowd before growing into the game. It might have worked too if not for a Griffiths worldie. Within this context whether we like it or not he was unlikely to take the game to them from KO. I don't for a second buy that MacInnes didn't think we could have them though. Flood might have been useful yesterday I grant you but he could just as easily been a red card inside half an hour. He's lost a yard of place and hasn't adapted his challenges to match. I suspect he was let go on a free because he was on quite big money and unlikely to feature much this season. It's the lack of an adequate replacement that's the problem with him leaving not that he left. There's no doubt that they were there for the taking and yes we could have played better but there were still some positives to take from the game. Lots of other valid points have been made re Smith, Mckenna and Wright, I'd love to see them get more game-time. I was chuffed for CS to get a loan to utd but I did wonder at the time if we were missing a trick letting him go but, then, I've always rated the kid. It does seem that DM's honeymoon is well and truly over though. Combine some baffling tactical decisions (with a particular penchant for for playing key players out of position), an increasingly hit or miss transfer record (including outs and failure to address the lack of options in one position whilst being overstaffed in others) and the refusal to give youth a chance and you get a clearly growing and understandable frustration amongst the support. If things continue like they are it won't be too long until there are calls for his head from some sections. Given the board is highly unlikely to want to pay out a 2019 contract I don't see that happening anytime soon. I suspect we are going to have to continue to suck it up for a while and hope it gets better. Tom's signature springs to mind. I must confess I have contemplated that I would not be particularly gutted if DM was poached by another club and we were to take Tommy Wright from ST J......
  6. We showed to much respect until we scored. The second half we were the better side but still looked a bit nervy. Shinnie was outstanding, as was logan. Maclean looked far more like himself and played some nice balls in the second half. I also thought taylor played well fwiw. It's a galling result when we were easily worth a point, never a pen in a million years
  7. Straight red but it wasn't that bad
  8. I'm actually feeling quietly confident about tom. They are worse at defending against crosses than hammer horror vampires.
  9. Tru dat but he's better than what we currently have and we're starting to get to beggars can't be choosers territory. We all know how fickle football fans are, a few good performances and one of those free kicks would do a lot to shorten memory's. Disclaimer, I say all this on the assumption he would predominantly play as a def mid. If he was signed and started getting games at LB I would be fucking raging. 10 k a week? Surely not. I wouldn't want to pay through the nose for him but if his terms were reasonable it has potential to be a good move.
  10. I always thought he was best played as a defensive mid. The only real reservation I would have is that he was fairly injury prone the past few seasons. Not really the roberto bisconti type player I would ideally like the club to bring in but he can certainly pass a ball.
  11. 0 points and negative double figure goal difference
  12. 2-0 2 minutes into the second half. This could be highly amusing.
  13. Hapoel 1 up in 20 minutes.
  14. I suspect we'll do more business but it's going to be thereabouts deadline day if/when we do. Going out of Europe diminished the appeal of the club and the budget for the season so it makes sense to sit back a little bit IMO. The closer it is to the window the more it becomes a buyers market for clubs. We have had some success with loanee's impressing in recent years and we may yet see one of decent pedigree come in on loan. The window isn't over yet and bar the unseen morris all the summer business has actually looked pretty shrewd. Lewis looks really solid and spritely from his line. AOC is strolling games and looks our best defender since Anderson by a distance (funnily enough this has had a positive influence on Reynolds) Burns looks great, same with Stockley and though theres not much game time with Storey it's looking pretty good so far. We are just one really good centre mid away from being a really good side if you ask me.
  15. :hammer: Unbelievable Jeff. I'm amazed we haven't had bids for him
  16. As with Rhodes as well though he didn't play against sunderland and may be leaving Boro. I used to look forward to Scotland games but they really don't inspire these days. GS is sadly making a cunt of it after a reasonable start which reached its pinnacle against the Irish at the San Giro. The only possible hope they have is that Strachan learns from his tactical blunders from the last campaign. My big fear is that England will humiliate us, that would hurt regardless of how little you care about the national side.
  17. Ryan Fraser starts for afcb away to west ham
  18. Good win against a tab that has been hard nut to crack in recent times. Thought MacLean played pretty well
  19. 1 down at home to motherwell at half time, nice one skippy.
  20. DM said that AOC fancies his best position as cb in his pre partick presser
  21. Wanted as cb or cm bb?
  22. As I understand it we are creating chances just not taking them manc
  23. I'm disappointed we have failed to get a win in the first two games but in the grand scheme of things I'm really pleased we are looking more solid at the back. From what I have seen of AOC and Lewis they look a real finds! A little perspective, we have just had two shutouts against teams last season that scored 16 goals against us accumulatively over 9 games. Every regular on here said we need to strengthen at the back over the summer and that's clearly happened.
  24. Just before they play sevco too
