  1. Why? The fact he is a Scotland international is purely down to us having totally shyte options there as opposed to Devlin being any good. He's only really had 3 months during his time with us when he was any good, the rest either being long periods of out through injury or when he got selected being no better than distinctly underwhelming. Considine has generally kept him out and now Taylor is doing the same.....entirely on merit. Having him sit on the bench at his age and on his salary is doing neither the player or the club any good. Letting him go would free up a relatively big wage. We could then bring in a young prospect from the lower leagues, as I have said before...even paying £100k, the savings on Devlin's wages mean it would be self-funding in not much more than a year. If we stumble on a gem...then we are quids in down the line. There can be no question that what we lack right now is someone who can play on the wing or as a second striker that has genuine pace. Therefore Kennedy is a priority. Sacrificing Devlin to get him onboard to my mind is a reasonable bit of business.
  2. Aye I was even younger when Python first aired so didn't really get it but watched the repeats in the mid 80s and realised just what geniuses they all were. Would never be allowed nowadays of course. Utterly un-PC, the snowflake generation would have a collective heart attack at some of the stuff they did. "He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy"...………...RIP min
  3. The problem with giving Anderson and Cosgrove a few games together is that if it doesn't work, we will likely drop points at a rate which will allow Motherwell to open up a significant gap on us. I do think Anderson should start tonight, but given his glaring misses against Dumbarton coupled with not doing a whole lot else.....unless he scores tonight or at very least makes a significant contribution to us scoring (an assist or two) then we cannot continue experimenting. The time for doing that is in pre season and the winter break
  4. As I predicted.....McInnes offered St Johnstone Main in exchange for Kennedy. And as predicted.....Tommy Wright told McInnes to ram it. They want Devlin......
  5. Mclennan? He was fucking awful on Saturday. It's him I expect to make way for Ferguson. Anderson did himself no favours with 2 horrific misses but on balance I'd throw him in again purely as Panda says, not to knock his confidence totally. But I am coming round slowly to the point where I really think he isn't going to make it with us. If we received an offer, either to take him on loan or even for a permanent transfer, it might be for the best all round if he went somewhere with a bit less expectation and tried to build a career there.
  6. I'm surprisingly optimistic about the outcome of this one despite our ineffective showing against Dumbarton at the weekend. I think we will win, although a draw at this point wouldn't be the end of the world. My concern is that McGinn (who was by far our best performer on Saturday) is now of an age where he needs the full week to recover properly and cannot manage 2 good performances in 4 days. Fingers crossed he proves my doubts wrong. 2-0 (Ferguson, McGinn)
  7. I wouldn't say that the new Brentford ground is "basic". I'd call it "quirky". The difference that they have compared to what we will have is that their ground is very much constrained by space, being built in a metropolitan area surrounded by buildings and a railway. I may have missed it on the video but don't recall seeing the cost mentioned. Even looking on Wiki, all it says is that the ground it is being built on was bought from Barratt Homes. Land in London is extortionate so it really wouldn't surprise me if the final bill for it comes in at more than £100million. We have the distinct advantage of having no real constraints on size. As for location, yes I agree Loirston would have been preferable but Kingsford is perfectly acceptable. Thousands of our support travel more than 8 miles already to reach Pittodrie and I suspect for every supporter that is inconvenienced by the move, at least one other will find it much more convenient to get to. I trust Cormack in a way that I didn't trust wiggy, so if he says the move is necessary then I accept that as fact. It did concern me that alongside the mooted safe standing area, that the plans may mean a reduced capacity to 17.5k as opposed to 20k. But given our average attendance, I can see why the board might well go for that. We can't even sell out for games against the arse cheeks nowadays...even if the game isn't broadcast live on telly.
  8. He was offered rehab facilities with us but hasn't taken them up (at least as yet). Some supporters thought he would be fit by November. However the only mention of November when he suffered the injury was that it would be the earliest he would be fit by. However there are absolutely no guarantees that he will ever be fit enough to resume his playing career and with us now 11 months down the line it's fair to assume his rehabilitation isn't going too well. My expectation is that he will quietly annonce his retirement sometime between Easter and mid summer but I'd be delighted to be proved wrong.
  9. Devlin was flying until he got his injury whilst training with the Scotland squad. I don't think we ever got to the bottom of what actually happened but we were told he would miss a couple of games then didn't return until after the January break...and he was a shadow of the player he had previously been whenever he got picked (which was pretty sparingly even allowing for the fact Considine had done very well as his stand in). It was even more bizarre that he kept getting picked for Scotland despite at that point being our 3rd choice centre back....although he did eventually get a reasonable amount of game time covering for injury/suspension to McKenna and Consi. Now 4th choice and unlikely to get much game time. He will be on a decent wage so if we could move him on I'm sure it would suit all parties. We could then look to the lower leagues for a young up-and-coming centre back for between £50-100k. If we paid that youngster say £1500/week the amount we would save on Devlin's wage alone which is more than double that figure means that the outlay would be recouped in not much more than a year....and we might just unearth a gem with a future sell on fee rather than losing Devlin to freedom of contract as we inevitably will when his current contract expires.
  10. Definitely no sell on clause. When he joined up the initial negotiations were to have him on a pre-contract to join up in the summer. It was Carlisle who were keen to do immediate business.....obviously they really didn't rate him at all......hence we paid £25k and got him in the January with no future sell-on clause.
  11. Sure we had all the possession in the world and god knows how many chances but when all is said and done....relying on a penalty in the 86th minute at home against Dumbarton is just embarrassing. McGeouch and Ojo worked well together, presume Ferguson will come straight back in on Wednesday replacing McLennan, who was fucking abysmal today. Anderson also did himself no favours, 2 horrendous misses, one in each half where he blootered the ball over the bar where both times it looked easier to score. Get him out on loan. McGinn easily m.o.m. was really our only creative player. Worry is can he now play 2 games in 4 days effectively? We certainly need him against Motherwell, I'd rather he missed next week against St Mirren. Hardly the performance I wanted to see with what we face midweek but surely we cannot play as ineffectively ( I can't in all honesty say we played badly) again.
  12. Just noticed Kennedy not in the St J squad for their game today.....I'd imagine so he isn't Cup-tied for us later on, so looks like we will be getting him in during this window, Having said that...still no score against Dumbarton, loads of pressure and a dreadful miss by Anderson after 20 minutes or so.
  13. The cash prize pot for being in the SPL next season is apparently quite markedly increased and St Johnstone really don't want to miss out on it by getting relegated which is why their manager is so keen to keep him till season's end. But they also have a desperate need for a CH (presumably they have injury problems). I still think we should offer them Devlin as a straight swap...….Devlin has been piss poor for 12 months and is deservedly 4th choice. He only cost us £50k and my info is that he is "unsettled"......hardly surprising given he is fairly regular in Scotland squads but cannot get a game for us......I think it would suit everyone. Probably not a popular view with a lot of our support but right now he's getting paid a fairly hefty wage just to sit on the bench each week and likely won't even be needed for that once Leigh is fit again with Consi moving back to CH and Taylor to the bench.
  14. His old man posts on the hat Seabass. I think he would know for one....
  15. I remember a few seasons back the rat had verbally agreed to join some Yank MLS club. Or indeed most famously, 30 or so years ago Mo Johnston had agreed to rejoin Celtic and actually got paraded on TV wearing the strip. Until the contract (and I mean full contract not a pre-contract) is signed.....there is always a way out
  16. Hearts apparently have offered Berra to St Johnstone in a swap deal for Matty Kennedy as Saints are supposedly in dire need of a centre half. McInnes, however, remains confident that he will sign a pre-contract with us after a medical on our return from Dubai. Maybe we could make a similar offer to get him onboard immediately. Offer a swap for Devlin? (Of course if this were to happen we couldn't let McKenna leave until summer). Would probably suit all parties.....I've heard that Devlin hasn't settled in Aberdeen and would welcome a move back to the central belt.
  17. Beaten 1-0 by some Jordanian team. I realise it was a friendly with wheens o' substitutions and no one really flying into challenges......but still an embarrassing result nonetheless. At best they were bottom of the Championship level (Scottish not English). Dumbarton must now be thinking they've got a real chance on Saturday
  18. A lot of chat that O'Donnell has turned us down in favour of joining Oxford United. If the pay mentioned is true...I'm not at all surprised. And what is more.....I'm absolutely delighted. We can find far better than him
  19. Snelders, Rico and Jess. Legends...... Honourable mentions to Severin (for sticking it out in a side that was frankly dreadful), Gillhaus (for the best debut I have had the privilege to have witnessed) and Shinnie (made up for only having a limited amount of ability with sheer drive and guts)
  20. Trump claiming that Soleimani was plotting to imminently blow up the US embassy in Baghdad. We can never prove that this was the case of course...but I'm sure the Yank military would be well aware of the likely reprisals for their action and still chose to go through with it so I'm prepared to accept that there was some truth in the accusation. The 737 shoot-down was just rank incompetence on Iran's part. Trying to deny it initially was sheer stupidity though.
  21. Fairly certain these are just rumours. Unless/until we sign another striker he is the back up option to Cosgrove, we won't be sending him anywhere without someone coming in first. I saw elsewhere there were a number of really very specific occurances in the pipeline and Main going on loan (Ross County were mentioned as a destination) was one of them....along with signing Liam Boyce and Lyndon Dykes ( Boyce immediately, Dykes more likely in the summer). I'll believe it when I see it
  22. Anyone got info on the relative benefits of having a golden shower v a cold shower?
  23. Carson definitely a no go. Signed a new 2 year deal with Motherwell Welcome aboard McGeouch. Not particularly excited about the deal but going to be pragmatic about it...he's definitely an upgrade on playing Vyner/Leigh in midfield
  24. Was just wishful thinking in the aftermath of the McKenna/Burnley rumours. As far as I'm aware he is resigning on another 6 month loan for Bolton
  25. Record saying Dylan McGeouch again...want him onboard immediately, possible initial 6 month loan leading to permanent contract. Given that he has turned us down at least once before, possibly twice, I'm a bit meh about it. Especially as he cannot even get a game in what is a totally shyte Sunderland side that cannot get itself out of EFL1. However given our midfield injury problems that we have suffered all season, I'm prepared to accept it if it happens. Also going with pre-contracts for Trevor Carson...so assume Cerny is heading home in the summer.....and Matty Kennedy (big hmmmmmm….is Hedges unsettled??)
