It wasn't a joke. Martin O'Neil played a reserve team in a UEFA Cup match in Moscow (even though 400 fans had paid £1000 to travel and watch this game) to concentrate on sealing 4th in the league. Not sure of the stats but I don't think they've won many league games since.
