manc_don Posted April 28 Report Posted April 28 Another must win if we to achieve a chance of finishing 3rd. They obviously had a reasonable result against the huns on the weekend and have had better results at home than away of late, so should have plenty of confidence going into this. We also know Robinson despises us so I’m sure that’ll give him extra motivation. Our season appears to have clicked back into gear at the right time, hopefully setting us up for a full of confidence finale. Hibs was a stern starting test but we’ve essentially got 4 more cup finals before the actual one, would be nice to finish as high up the table as possible. Hopefully Clarkson and palaversa continue their good form in the middle, would be nice if we could get two decent halves from the latter. Is he trying too hard? out bed bed unsure, weather dependent. 2-1 Dons, Nisbet and clarkson Quote
tlg1903 Posted April 29 Report Posted April 29 I'm absolutely dreading this as our record against st mirren for the past 5 years is fucking grim. We have not won at Paisley in the league since february 2020 (goals from Lewis Ferguson and Sam Cosgrove), we have attempted to get league wins there 8 times since and lost 6 times. If you Include that match and the all the matches in the league since them that is 18 fixtures of which we have won 6, drawn 4 and lost 8. I doubt any other team in the league could boast a better record against us apart from the tims. So, yeah, dreading this one. That said we are defo coming into this with a spring in our step and we are well overdue a result there. It will be interesting to see if Thelin goes with the same outfield team for an unprecedented 5th match on the bounce. Re Palaversa he's one yellow away from a 2 match ban and theres no danger hes going the rest of the seaosn without being booked. 1 Quote
Jute Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 We have struggled with St Mirren’s physical style all season and with their pitch not in the best condition for playing football don’t see this being any different. Despite his poor form of late this might be a game for sticking with Gueye to give us a physical presence. As had been said we need to find a way to win this one to keep up pressure on Hibs for third place. Not sure we will though. Hopefully Tobers is fit for this one as think he is a better option beside Knooster to combat St Mirren’s strikers. In train then pub away end train back to capital 1-1 Nisbet Quote

BigAl Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 One time we were in pre match, standing against the bar and one of my mates without thinking pointed over the bar counter at the optics and the big German Shepherd just about had his hand off. He sure as hell didn't make that mistake again 3 Quote
Panda Posted May 2 Report Posted May 2 Nilsen confirmed to be out for the rest of the season. Tobers back training but won't play. Quote
Panda Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 Jensen not in the squad which suggests an injury. Okkels maybe as the number 10? Quote
Elgindon Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 Devlin back in,Jensen out.Okkels in for Gueye? or Keskinen in the 10? Quote

OrlandoDon Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 (edited) Been saying for months keskinen at 10! Bout time! I’m also one of the few with a positive opinion of Jensen, but good to see devlin back today. He’ll have that extra grit to do well today. 3-2 us, Clarkson topi nisbet Edited May 3 by OrlandoDon Quote
Elgindon Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 started well, but fallen out of it. Swap Okkels and Keskinen? Gueye on? Quote
OrlandoDon Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 As much as I’m happy with topi at 10, I was surprised given his height and physicality gueye didn’t start. Not watching, not very good so far???? Quote
DantheDon Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 Sounds like we didn’t really do enough again today. You would think with what’s at stake we would have lifted our game. The radio was saying that the disallowed goal was dubious but still doesn’t sound like we created much else throughout the game. Anyone there able to give a bit more insight. Quote
Elgindon Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 Saints werent that stuffy that we couldnt have got more out of the game with more drive and imagination.Keskinen was less involved than expected, maybe would have been worth starting with Polvara as suggested, who looked good when he came on,as did Dabbagh,McGrath and even Gueye. As Dan said,we didnt look up for it enough with whats at stake... OrlandoDon Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 I did see the disallowed goal, interesting that okkels catches the volley perfectly. Surely if it hits nisbet the ball changes direction?? Did feel a foul on gogic could also have been called too, a little unfortunate there to say the least. Quote
Elgindon Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 unlucky with the disallowed goal, but Saints had the better chances/were on top from that point Quote
Jute Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 That was an awful watch. Far too slow moving the ball again and created little. St Mirren knew we would try to play out via full backs and kept closing them down forcing us to go long. Keskinen at 10 was an odd choice today given St Mirren’s physicality. Think that is 3rd gone and now fighting for 4th. Quote
Jute Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 Meant add watching Scottish football sober is not to be advised as you do realise how shite the standard is. 1 Quote

Been coaching youth football in the US for 30 years and coached/watched many a game here that’s better quality. Not saying MLS is significantly better, football for me as a whole is boring as fuck now and I don’t watch much. I’ll watch us and Scotland but that’s it. Money and over coaching has killed the game. tlg1903 Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 I'm really starting to grow to intensely dislike St Mirren. Quote
Panda Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 That's third gone now I think. Even if Hibs contrive to lose all three remaining games, we'd still need four at least from Rangers away, Celtic home and Dundee United away. And, we'll probably need at least seven as Hibs won't lose all three. It's not that we're not capable of winning any of those games individually, it's more we don't have the squad to get positives results in all three within seven days. Today was just like the last game in Paisley; passed it around nicely but rarely looked threatening in the final third. Quote

Agreed though the silver lining of taking the guaranteed euro spot through the cup and the resulting hibee tears is still available. Quote
OrlandoDon Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 We’re a team full of nice guys and I fear jimmy has a nice guy approach too. Not saying the manager has to be a fergie, but back in the day we had a team full of players who could be nasty bastards, mcleish miller rougvie Simpson cooper in particular were hard as fuck. What I wouldn’t give for a modern day Peter Nicholas or Lee Richardson, class in the middle with bite. The current team melts in the sun. I didn’t see today but it’s been mentioned before, would gogic do a job for us? Quote

There is no way we are winning the cup sadly. Seen the goal that was chopped off on tv not convinced that is deliberate handball so goal should have stood and cannot see what ref saw on VAR that convinced him it was a clear and obvious error.
