    Alton Towers

I just won't go to a theme park during school holidays. I've been to Florida twice, both times in September and the American and British kids were at school and there were next to no queues at any rides. It was pretty awesome. And the roller coasters were world class. The Hulk is one of my favourites. But the best park for roller coasters is Busch Gardens. Sheikra was my favourite coaster. There's an old style wooden one there too. They jolt you about something chronic and aren't usually very fast/high/intense. Also being a tall chap the restraints can be tight. My shoulders get most of the punishment on newer coasters and my knees on older lap bar style ones. Although generally amazing rides and the day we were there zero queues. If I was there during busier periods I always said I'd pay extra for fast passes. We all know the UK parks just don't compare but Alton Towers seemed to be trying to make a decent fist of it. I think there are a few new rides since the last time I was there. Smiler being the newest one. I've never bungeed or jumped out a plane. I think I'd like to. But I dare say it's a hell of a lot more scary than even the most intense theme park attraction.
  3. That's a releif. I was worried for a while there that we might have two full backs at the club!

    Alton Towers

Following on from the news from last week that a roller coaster crashed it's been published today that one of the people on the ride has lost one of her legs. By all accounts there another 3 or 4 folk that are in a bad way as a result. It's horrendous news like. Despite being a veteran at the age of 30 now I still absolutely love roller coasters. The bigger the better (aye teehee). I can't remember the last time there was a theme park incident this bad in the west. Apparently poor building practices makes this almost a fairly common occurrence in places like China? Not sure how true that actually is. But I always rationalised that the build quality in places like the US and the UK would be good and testing procedures thorough. I know that you can never guarantee that things won't go wrong no matter how much testing you do but the chances must be really remote. I know they still are but that doesn't help these poor fuckers with mangled legs. Although I dare say the compo that they'll undoubtedly get will be in the 7 figures at least (especially the girl who's lost a leg) so at least she won't have to worry about paying the bills in later life. Any roller coaster or theme park fans here? Does this put you off riding? I haven't been to Alton Towers since 2000 and I haven't been to Thorpe Park since 2010 but a mate and I were thinking of going (to the former) later on in the year as we're down in the region for something else anyway. These UK parks aren't in the same league as their American counterparts. (Sporting events and theme parks - two things that America has spot on!) But I don't think this would put me off given how remote the chances of accidents are.
  5. Nae as good as Coldplay were on the 4 occasions that I've seen them. The last time was 3 long years ago. Surely there's another tour in the pipeline soon! Fingers crossed, lads.
  6. Speaking of barbecues.. where the fuck is Dave_Min, min? Probably at a barbecue.

    Andy Murray

It's a shame that Murray couldn't keep up the level he showed at the resumption of play on Saturday. He'd have won the whole tournament had he continued playing like that. I have to say I was happy to see Wawrinka win it. Not sure if it was partly down to Novak getting taken to 5 sets or if that's maybe unfair on the great form that Stan was showing.
  8. I wouldn't have a problem with England hosting it. I don't really care who hosts it. I'd just like it to be a country that either has the infrastructure in place or can afford the upgrades required. The less building contracts being handed out for new stadia purposes (South Africa and Brazil) the less chance of kick backs changing hands as a result.
  9. Forgot it was on tbh be honest. Watched about 10 minutes and decided to watch fucking Winter Cottage with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall after that.
  10. Did I see that we've got some big Brazilian goalkeeper on trial? Or have I dreamt that up? Sure I saw pictures on social media? ???
  11. Just me that's glad of the break? I couldn't stomach a World Cup right now what with the FIFA antics and with both my nationalities being shite. So I'm happy to have my Saturdays back for the time being.
  12. No longer will Theo Snelders have to shout at 9 year old me for playing football behind his goal and putting him off. Grumpy cunt.
  13. I'd be interested to hear exactly what was done with the €5m once the FAI received it tbh be honest.

    Andy Murray

I wrote off Murray's chances when he played Kei Nishikori in Madrid and then again when he played Nadal. I wrote off his chances against Ferrer yesterday. I'm writing off his chances against Djokovic too but I don't think I'll be wrong this time. Although obviously I'd be very happy to be wrong. Murray is the closest one to Djokovic on the tour but not close enough. He's on his own level at the moment.
  15. Saw this on SSN Sports News last night. I was shocked but more shocked at why I'm still shocked at the sheer arrogance of this mob. Since when has repaying loans been optional? I would urge Ashley to take costly legal action against Sevco.
  16. How much of that is simply down to the poor form/downright shiteness of the product?
  17. Deek strikes me as being far too bright to join them right now.
  18. I wouldn't be unhappy if that was true.
  19. Another reason why I would've loved a Yes vote.

    Andy Murray

Into the quarter finals at RG again after beating Chardy in 4 sets. Up against Ferrer next. Tough, tough nut to crack on Clay but Murray's in the clay form of his life so I'm expecting a close game.
  21. I honestly don't think Deek will see the CB positions as ones that need to be improved as far as the 1st XI is concerned. He'll be happy with Reynolds and Taylor. Quinn providing competition for them is good.
  22. Lee did take a poke in the face but it was clearly unintentional so no need for coppers. The fan just tried to flick the ball. But this does show why generally football fans aren't trusted with flag poles. Still don't understand the calls to look at Erwin. Not a bad player but not better than what we have. His interview made my ears bleed. Didn't surprise me that the Huns (or their fans at least) played the race card with the Mochni/Erwin incident. Moshni has always been an utterly classless cunt, terrible player and typical hun. Gutted that he's leaving. Cammy Bell is easily worse than Jamie Langfield and Scot Brown. That was the worst goalkeeping error I think I've ever seen. It was absolutely tremendous I think Motherwell won the tactical battle. They were spot on in both games. Can't help but think if they'd bothered their arses in the SPL they wouldn't have ended up in the play off position. Now I'm hoping that another year in the Championship fucks up Dave King's plans and leaves them on the financial brink again!
  23. Already seen it, Manc. (unless you're alluding to the other Coldplay fans on here? ) But it just goes to show how much of a great guy Chris Martin is. Doesn't take himself too seriously. Cracking stuff from everyone involved.

    Films

Saw San Andreas last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I'm not sure how much of that was learning about the score from Ibrox. :>
  25. As much as I enjoyed the result last night I don't have complete faith in Motherwell to see it through on account of them being shite. A lot of people gloating but it's not over. I'll enjoy it properly when they finish the job!
