He didn't have as many howlers for sure but he's always had a wee mistake him and I've not been 100% convinced of him for at least a year now. The problem he has right now more than anything else though is his confidence is clearly shot which is leading to even more erratic decisions. At the very least there is solid grounds to be taking him out of the firing line for a few games.

System football has been on the rise for a while now and you're spot on that it takes away creativity and individuality, the latter by it's very nature and the former as consequence of that. It doesn't help that kids don't play football independently like they once used to. I wasn't a great player by any stretch growing up but I played virtually every day for years up to my mid teens and none of it was coached. That was the culture, you played football at lunchtime and then at the park once school was over. It's in circumstances like that that the players we have all admired over the years for being able to take the piss out of the opposition have honed those skills, not at a training facility where coaches are constantly drilling into you to move the ball on quickly cos system. Unfortunately kids mostly play football as a focused hobby now in coached environments which obviously isn't all bad but most of the really skillful players we have loved over the years learned those skills in the first place to take the piss out of their mates down the park. Who doesn't love shouting 'Meg' as you go past your opponent after all. It does make me wonder how players from previous era's would get on in the modern game. E.g would Ronaldinho if he was starting out now still get to a club like Barca or would he have to adapt his game, play to the system and learn to track back? Would a player like Matt Le Tissier even be able to work his way into the Southampton first team? I suspect he would be deemed too slow and lazy.

Jesus wept Karlsson, take that first time ffs

going forward we actually look relatively exciting at times. Defo going a bit more direct and the hun back line isn't liking it much.
-
We need a new goalkeeper. Lost all faith in Mitov to to be good enough consistently.
-
Nope, Polvara as CB by the looks of it, Shinnie KK and Armstrong playing as a 3 and Bilalovic up top with Nisbet
-
I wonder if it's Bilalovic at rwb then with Shinnie, KK and Polvara as a 3 with Armstrong playing behind Nisbet.
-
Leven just said on sportsound its a back 3

One thing I don't think get's mentioned enough with McInnes is how underfunded he was by Cormack compared to every other hire under his regime. Clearly Cormack wanted his own manager in which, given his investment, is fair enough. I can't be the only Dons fan to have wondered how unstale things might have become under Derek if he was given the same budget to play with though.

Given how leven lined up last time he was in charge I would say it's most likely a 4231/451. My guess is Polavara and Bilalovic in the wide spots with armstrong playing no 10 though if that is the 3 I would also expect them to be fairly fluid in where they line up. Shinne and KK at dm should make us pretty solid so we might not get a doing after all.

Aye I mind seeing you there mate . Twas a grand day out all in, had a few jagers myself pre match and me and my pal both had the Thursday off so we're able to get on it post match.

Last time I was at mordor was the 2-1 game where we finally ended that awful record there. I still feel very smug about getting to attend that game incidentally which is why I mention it . Anyway a whole bunch off Aberdeen fans met up in the hyndland rock bar in the west end to get smashed then got the tube across. I think it was something of a dons pub at that point as I'm pretty sure Bobby Biscuit formerly of this parish went there a lot and got pally with the owners. No idea if that is still a thing or not though.

What is going on with the walls where they did the interview? Reminded me of that episode of south park where the internet goes down.

That is a very good point.

I echo a lot of the words already spoken in that I'm really sad this is how it has turned out. From that POV it certainly helps that his last game was a narrow defeat (however limp dicked the performance was) away to Falkirk and not a papping off der hun at mordor 2bf. If there's any truth in rumours and he ends up at AIK that's a bonus as we likely will have had to pay minimum compensation, if any. So, moving forward, this is the first big test for LP. It will be interesting to see just how much free reign he gets with the new manager position given how hands on Cormack likes to be. My hope is though that fabled black book of his provides some candidates that none of us have heard of at the very least.

This has been fucking grim.

It's Nilsen on
-
No idea what to expect from this but if we play like we did in the first half against Hibs I think Falkirk would struggle to live with that. If we play like we did first half against Hibs and stop faffing about in the final 3rd we might actually score.
-
Could you elaborate on this?

To each their own but there was times I thought they moved the ball very well against us. You're right that it's a huge step up though and would be a huge gamble. Rosenior (who I did find very impressive when he spoke and not just because he blew a shit ton of smoke up the dons arse) probably needs a successful stint at a club of say Fiorentina's sort of size and stature before he's going to be ready for a club the size of Chelsea.

Happy new year all. Thanks to you for making this the best dons page on the Internet.
