  1. I predict (based on no evidence whatsoever) that we will make 2 or 3 very decent signings during the summer and have a far superior season next season. Playing in the UEFA cup was great, but that and an abysmal injury list and loss of Anderson, Hart (and possibly even Clark) have weakened the team domestically. It may well be a case of doing well one season, qualifying for Europe and then struggling to compete on so many fronts once the next season starts... until we get to a point where we have a squad that can cope with both... say in about another 3 or 4 seasons... then we might actually have a bash at regular 3rd/4th finishes and the odd Euro run every other season or so? Well I can dream can't I?!?!?
  2. Sorry like, but a couple of players who belong to other clubs and were trained up by other clubs getting called up for that England is not very exciting in my humble opinion. If they were young youth-team products of AFC getting called up by the mighty Scotland that would be another matter. But as far as this story goes... Meh...
  3. You cryin' Brian Irvine a heretic fatjim? All he did was say to his wife, "That goal was good enough for Jehovah!"
  4. We will finish fourth as the teams around us implode.... Or something...
  5. Hearts result is cheering me up a bit. if only i wasnae expecting us to receive a similar beating EDIT: By 'similar' I mean, of course, 'much worse'!
  6. Hey. We never got totally pumped. Woo hoo......
  7. Does any one seriously believe that we will do anything other than meekly capitulate to Celtic in the cup? I have no blind optimism left for the Dons I'm afraid. It's time for them to do something to prove to me that there are any grounds for optimism whatsoever, cos it sure as hell doesn't look like if fae here!
  8. I'm almost speechless at how badly this season has turned out. OK half decent Euro run... ish... Piss poor defeat to DU in semi at Tynie... Being gubbed black and blue by every team we play in the league... 3-1 to fucking Killie who couldnae buy a win recently... WTF?!?!? The most bizarre 'rotation' policy and worst substitutions imaginable... I really am at a loss at to what has gone wrong. My only conclusion so far is that Calderwood has been having us on the whole time... bluffed his way into third place and UEFA cup last season and has so far shown no aptitiude for handling the weight of expectation that that has engendered. We seem to be in freefall at the moment, with no real light at the end of the tunnel. Really hoped that we would never go through such a trough again, but it looks like we had maybe just better get fucking used to it. Gutted.
  9. Also a fair point - I wouldnae have been up for joining in a conga in 2000 or any time really. It is the most stupid dance ever, and I don't drink enough before a game to lose my inhibitions (or dignity) like that! (When I have drank enough dignity soon disappears from my dictionary.) I have to admit that I probably actually agree with you - at the time it is far from funny, but hearing the folks that were in Munich outsinging the Germans in the stands did cheer me up whilst we were losing the game on the pitch. Here's hoping for a run in the league and possible Euro footy next year!
  10. Dude, I was gutted we got pumped, but I have to say that the days of it actually emotionally scarring me for days after the game are long gone thank fuck. I guess it must be my advanced age. I was fortunate enough to be around to experience the days when we were actually really, really, REALLY good - compared to that now is pretty poor, but compared to 10 years ago we're doing nae too bad. It may be painful to accept, but we are pretty small-fry these days, at least in European terms, and have to take whatever enjoyment we can out of the big occassions we do manage to be involved in - whether that takes the form of a conga or an Ole or fitever I just hope that we get back into Europe real soon and that we do put one over one of the big boys at some point.
  11. What's the problem with having a bounce and taking the piss a bit? What's it got to do with self-respect? Is there no place for humour in a football fan as far you are concerned? Christ, its only a game. (Where's that fishing smiley... oh crap, wrong forum!)
  12. Have to say I was pretty disappointed with his performance last night. He flaps, gets out of position, has very poor distribution, can't kick, and the amount of times the ball comes off him directly to the feet of an atttacker is ridiculous. A nervous goalie makes for a nervous defence. I think we really need a proper good goalie in the summer. Clangers doesn't have the temperament for professional football - he is quite good when he's on form, but never any better than that - and god awful when he's having 'one of his turns'. EDIT: Not that I'm blaming Langfield for the result - we could have had two Jim Leightons (1980s vintage) in goal and we'd still have lost out to a team who are far superior in ALL departments. All in all a run to be proud of and no shock to be well beaten by Bayern. However another pumping in the league is not acceptable. If league form doesn't improve fast I'm going to find myself wondering about our management team - despite a great bit of fun in Europe (we did only actually win one match in the end though).
  13. I think it was a case of celebrating the fact that we had SUCCEEDED in getting far enough to take on one of the best teams on the planet in their ane hoose. So we got horsed... so what?!? Any objective perusal of the two squads would have established the gulf in class - the result just confirmed it. There is no harm whatsoever in being realistic enough to enjoy what we had achieved rather than greeting into oor pies for the rest of the game just cos we weren't as good as Bayern. Good on all those Dandies who made it over there and sung themselves hoarse - and well done to the team and management for getting us there. Bitter cos we didnae beat Bayern Munich?!?!!? Erm... get a grip min!
  14. As I have already said on another thread, I am unaccountably optimistic and looking forward to this game... It's as if DU at Tynie never happened... or Cel'ic, or Hibs... erm... I'm usually pretty rational, but tonight I say; fuck it! GIRFUT and we have a chance... I'm ready for my injections now nurse...
  15. I may just be going insane, but I feel bizarrely confident. Just can't help feeling that Bayern are going to take us too lightly. Our entire league campaign so far has been nothing but a smokescreen for tonight!!!! Mon the Dons!
  16. Signed. Why have STV no picked it up? Surely it will be available for relatively little given the apparent lack of competition to screen it?
  17. Nothing; BBC3 doesnae start until 7 PM...
  18. Erm... Seen more knobs than a locksmith? More bangs than a lavvy door?
  19. Here's my effort: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A32343518 To Aberdeen on the occassion of their taking part in the last 32 of the UEFA cup: Mon the Dons, Don't let Bayern you fright, Just keep it simple, And put up a fight! We'll maybe get beaten, Or even get pumped, But please try to play fitba', Don't make every ball lumped! JC - play the players In their favoured position, And maybe, just maybe, We can beat this opposition! We've done it before, Though twas long ago, Twenty-five years, To Cup Winner's final did we go. But living in the past's Not all that great, So do us all proud, And create our new fate! I love Aberdeen, Do they love me too? Lace up yer boots boys, Show us what you can do! COME ON YOU REDS! Stu. I am the new William McGonagall
  20. Much as I hope for a great performance and a deserved or even a lucky win... ...I find it almost impossible to have any optimism at all. Went to Tynecastle bubbling with the prospect of a cup-final and left with my hopes in tatters... no building maself up again!!! MON THE DONS ANYWAY!!!
  21. Won't be missed. Jimmy has a whole string of nearly men in his little black book... We will get someone equally as useless in the summer nae probs. On the other hand, if he scores 10 goals between now and then all this will be forgotten and he'll be signed as, 'Just the kind of determined character we are looking for in the squad'... Fitba is a bit like a primary school playground in that respect.
