Agreed, and I think everyone here thinks devlin is a better option than Jensen. The latter is certainly a good squad player to have with his position flexibility, but especially with tobers injured and the return of a back 3, I feel there’s plenty of devlin game time ahead which we all appreciate. Both will be on the field a lot together too. i also think second factor is Armstrong. I believe he’s better than we all expected, and with devlin Armstrong Milne and shinnie is our starting 11, I do think that Scottish core gives a work ethic mentality strength and identity that we were lacking.

Even gerrard sees sense, although I believe it’s purely financial there. That makes no sense. Dyche makes little sense. Muscat makes more sense than either. Are they not humble enough to go for mcinnes, or do they fear rejection there? the pressure on the next guy is immense. Would love to see them spunk their wad on Rafael benetiz or the likes. -
I dont agree with you both. Robertson is in decline. It’s not that he’s bad, he’s still a very good player. But where is the guy who hit the line vs Spain to create a goal? I don’t see him quite so attack minded and I don’t think it’s because of the central defenders. Formation definitely plays a part, having two or three central defenders covering space as he pushes on, but there’s a reason he’s. no longer first choice at Liverpool. he’s still our number one left back, but I think we’re at the point where we need a left mid who’ll get to the line and give us width as I dont see that from Robertson as much and that was a big factor in his game for both club and country.
-
Agreed, but what is our best 11? You could play mctominnay up top with a forward, Ferguson gilmour and mcginn center mid, wing backs Robertson and doak. McKenna on the left of a back 3. Wouldn’t mind us giving Scott Bain a shot, at least he plays weekly. Clarke won’t do it but are robertson’s days numbered? Doig seems to be doing well, hickey plays left too, Taylor is a tidy player. I just don’t think we get much attacking play from Robertson any more (didn’t see yesterday, I could be wrong.)
-
Kinda. But isn’t that like saying Aberdeen didn’t need Armstrong because we have plenty of center mids, or a forward because we have yengi and Ambrose? we are poor on the left, Christie doesn’t really play wide any more, I get your point about mcginn but why are we seeing doak out there? Small sample size but doak is much more productive on the right. we got width from Robertson and tierney but that ship has sailed now, plus I know Clarke isn’t open to much new/different, but I hope we explore younger and exciting (ish) options.
-
I’m meaning left mid. We have no left midfielders in the squad and shoe horning doak onto the left is crap, for doak and for Scotland. Even Napoli have played mctominnay on the left this season, it’s a problem area we have, certainly don’t want him out there. Armstrong has played on the left, he’s capable on that side, lovely assist for gyamfi of late kinda reminds us he can play out there. Can’t remember who he scored against for Scotland in recent years, cutting in from the left to score bottom left. he’s older and not a long term solution, hence i threw out luke McGowan. He’s playing more than ralston, Hanley I think, plus all of our keepers. I’d also consider Josh doig or Greg Taylor, if we’re going to shoe horn a player into left mid why not put someone out there who actually plays on the left. i think both MLS boys can play on the left but are injured??

See that Christie and Ferguson are suspended for Sunday. Wouldn’t mind seeing Lennon miller come in but has Clarke got the stones? Expect to see two up top with dykes and Adams at 9 and 10, gilmour and mctom in the middle. Really hope to see doak on the right, sad we don’t have a left midfielder in the entire squad….. although with his assist I’m sure Armstrong could play left midfielder. Luke McGowan? With the two suspended, wonder if he actually calls up Armstrong. He has McLean miller and gilmour though, prob enough. need a good win, good performance, and a few goals.
-
Could go a number of ways, back three with width from hickey and Robertson, but then doak is benched. Back 4 and doak plays. Don’t know if we are good enough to go 4-4-2, Adams and dykes up top with doak mctom Ferguson and mcginn in midfield. I’d also consider 3-5-2 with doak and dykes up top. we’re never ideal I feel as we are always playing with center mids out of position. think Clarke isn’t brave enough, 4 at the back, Christie into midfield, and it’s Adams up top.

Dont know what to expect tomorrow. Do we pull of a home Spain/denmark performance, or do we match the last time Greece spanked us at home? Must win game, hope we are on it! 2-1 us, karlsson scoring both. Only a matter of time before he becomes Scottish and makes the squad!

Is lobban purely a right back or does he play multiple positions?

I hear you, I suppose I jumped to the same conclusion that people believed bojan would never sign for them. I think few would be scared away. Those who consider it a step down would pass, I don’t see people leaving good prem jobs for example, those who believe they are a hot commodity and believe they deserve something better will pass (extreme but the likes of a zidane, prob graham potter), and those who have a really good thing going at a solid club will pass (possibly Mcinnes). As much as it pains me to say it, it’s a top job. Regular finals in Scotland expected, battles with your rivals for a title, old firm games, European football, and they have done well in Europe in recent years. They are a world known club with a very large fan base, hard to ignore them as much as I wish everyone would. One of the reasons I was surprised they took Martin as I felt they could and should have done better. sorry, apologies to everyone for saying anything that may sound complimentary. I despise rangers more than most. -

I don’t buy that though. That’s like saying bojan wouldn’t go there because of our hatred for them and him understanding that, and it being a shit show of a club at present. It’s a big job and very appealing, and every manager will believe they can make it work and bring success. if the manager think it’s a bigger and better job they’d go. Mcinnes is interesting as he appears to have a really good thing at hearts, much like he did at us when they approached him. Would he reject them again, knowing its unlikely they’d ever come to him a third time in the future. -

Really intrigued to see what the Huns do. Great job for a manager but horrible fan base and possibly unrealistic expectations. Plus really don’t know what their finances are like at the moment. They seem to be a bit of a mess of a club, forking out a small fortune too for ex managers. think Gerard knocked them back before they took Martin, why would he go back now? I also think the Boyd’s and those Huns in the media want an experienced guy with a track record, plus knows what rangers and the expectations are like, is Sean Dyche the guy? I’m not so sure he knows enough about Scottish football. Danny Rohl is young with limited experience, can’t see him being the guy, while Kevin muscat has experience but not in a league/environment like this. I do think Mcinnes makes sense if they are humble enough to accept that. Would also love to see hearts take that hit. Not so sure Mcinnes would go given everything seems to be going right for him and hearts right now. -
Ha, how many of us have been wondering over the last 24 hrs if we can sign him and keep him for longer?!
-
Definitely. I feel like a 52 yr old child on days like this. Buzzing from yesterday, plus cannot wait until the next game. St mirren hibs and killie, all very winnable, but could go the other way too. We need a winning run and very quickly we’d move up the table. the icing on the cake as well as a winning run is the Huns taking mcinnes. Would like to see the hearts reaction, plus I do not think rangers have a great squad, a new manager doesn’t immediately fix things.

Given how hearts are doing right now, I’m sure he’d be of interest. How many times can he be overlooked? He’s probably the type of manager they need, knows the league, the club, the fans etc. I thinker he’s a limited manager so would be happy for him to go there, plus I’d love it to happen to hearts. saying all this, gerrard is available and favorite I think?? rangers much better paying ex managers and staff a fair chunk right now. -
Quite an interesting character is Lutz Pfannenstiel. Apparently jailed for 100 days for match fixing (was cleared), once stole a penguin and kept it in his bathtub, and recently was working with espn commentating alongside our own Derek Rae.

Gyamfi is certainly an interesting one. Had a good game today, effective in defense/attack in a Mackenzie way. He got up the pitch, won a good few tackles/50-50s today, plus unlike jack he does have skill and a little swagger. At the same time, he doesn’t look the fittest and I thought he struggled the last 10 mins or so. I’m not a fan of using all 5 subs, I’d always keep on in case an injury occurs. only disappointing thing for me today was Milanovic. He rarely attacks, and when he does it’s going inside where there is rarely space. Much like Jensen tends to go sideways and backwards. Compare him to topi for example, who is very direct and aggressive when he came on, linked with lazetic, and nearly scored. I expect the same from milanovic.
-
Next 3 league games at st mirren, home to hibs, at killie. Tough run but all winnable, great confidence builder today as we go into the international break. thought Armstrong played very well today. Good experienced head who linked well in midfield, very creative and nice interchange on gyamfi’s goal.
-
Job done. Bit sloppy second half but no complaints. Win, goals, and a few of them. plenty of good performances but, while not our best player today, and has been mentioned, jack Milne is real quality.
-
To be fair, Jensen making runs forward now. You can see though with milanovic it’s back to being inverted with him, I’d rather he and topi switch to give us the width. Although gyamfi has done well wide.
-
Wasn’t bad. Should have scored but I truly feel in lazetic we have a player of much better quality.
-
4. Super goal from karlsson. Nice touches from lazetic too.
-
Bit of a flat second half unfortunately.
-
Don’t know what has happened to Jensen but he makes so few devlin runs down the line.
