swaddon Posted Saturday at 22:02 Report Posted Saturday at 22:02 History will be made on Thursday December 11th when Aberdeen take on Ligue 1 outfit RC Strasbourg Alsace. It will be the first time in Aberdeen's illustrious 58 year history in European competition that we will have played a team from France. RC Strasbourg finished seventh in Ligue 1 last season. They used to be great, then they were pish, then they were good again. A bit like us. I fancy a 2-1 home win under the lights at Pittodrie. It'll be one of those memorable European nights that the old stadium has seen over the decades. 1 Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted Sunday at 10:30 Report Posted Sunday at 10:30 In for this one, but my hearts not in it. You feel obliged to go when you purchase the three match ticket. Hadn't really heard of this team before and know little about them. In South Stand Work Home Nae fussed on the score, just hope no injuries picked up ahead of the Killie game, which for me anyway, is far more important. Quote
Ajja Posted Sunday at 10:52 Report Posted Sunday at 10:52 (edited) In too but also not really that up for it. Always try to take the opportunity to watch decent European sides at Pittodrie when I can as you never know how often we get that going forward. Likely facing a few years of watching teams from the Faroes etc. Suspect we’ll see some fringe players for this. In Drive from Edinburgh Y and pie Drive home Edited Sunday at 10:52 by Ajja Quote
swaddon Posted Sunday at 11:59 Author Report Posted Sunday at 11:59 Strasbourg lost to Toulouse yesterday, their third defeat in a row. Quote
Blow.Up.Sheep Posted Monday at 04:13 Report Posted Monday at 04:13 Nae idea why but I fancy us to sneak this 1-0 the Dandies (Nisbet) Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted Monday at 07:53 Report Posted Monday at 07:53 Article about Strasbourg in the P&J. Went bust about the same time as Oldco and started again as an amateur team, in the French fourth division, keeping their 20k + attendances. Now owned by the same folk that own Chelsea, which their fans aren't best pleased about and do some protest thing at every home game. Difficult game for us, regardless of their form, but sounds like they have a few issues going on, which may help their cause. 1 Quote

That's the thing with the 3 ticket purchase. I didn't go to the Frankfurt game last time out, despite having paid for it. I'll go to this one, but feel exactly the same about it as I did the Frankfurt one. I don't really care about it. I can't wait until we're back to proper European knockout fitba next time we make it. Ajja Posted Monday at 09:22 Report Posted Monday at 09:22 Having listened to the guy on the ABZ podcast about Strasbourg I’m now going up on Thursday expecting a good win for the Dons Quote
Panda Posted Monday at 14:22 Report Posted Monday at 14:22 This is a game I would have suggested resting Aouchiche, but then he's French so probably wants to play against his fellow countrymen, and after two goals on Saturday he'll be high in confidence. So really he has to stay. Lazetic looked like he was hobbling off on Saturday, and with Nisbet scoring I think he might be the only change from Saturday. Quote
BigAl Posted Monday at 14:47 Report Posted Monday at 14:47 I'm in the same boat as several others as in that I have the three game package and not really overly bothered about this one. Added to that I have woken up today feeling like absolute shit so fitness test on Thursday morning may well dictate whether I actually make the journey up from behind enemy lines on the west coast. On the basis that I do attend, then...... In First 190 miles drive South Stand Second 190 miles drive 2-2 (Topi & Nisbet) Quote
Elgindon Posted Monday at 17:34 Report Posted Monday at 17:34 Close to my fitba consumption threshold at pres, will see how work goes/if arsed on Thursday.Forecast mild and dry, which helps on the Y In - Sudcurve maybe 3 - 2 Dons. Lazetic hat trick Quote

STFU_Donny Posted Monday at 23:43 Report Posted Monday at 23:43 I have missed the last 3 home games so I am looking forward to this but I can see a pumping incoming or perhaps a historic European night under the lights a la Copenhagen. Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago Match day and feels like a big buzz around this one... I don't think I know anyone going who is looking forward to it and know people who are either not now going or gave or trying to give away their tickets. Might be a glorious European nights. Always think we are a better team when no expectation is on us. Still going along, just because I have my ticket and couldn't make the Noah game. Still not fussed about the score and just want no injuries. I reckon we'll have a strong line up for it and my hope of us playing a weakened line up won't happen. I read in the P&J that their manager, used to manage Shinnie at Derby and thinks very highly of him as both a player and a person. Nothing we didn't know, but nice to hear it anyway. COYR Quote

The league just drains all jeopardy and excitement out of it by the time you get to this stage. It's solely about the money. It's an absolutely awful tournament. Jute Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago We are as good as out so no real interest in this other getting through the 90 minutes without any injuries or damage to players confidence. Would be tempted to give some of the fringe players a run tonight to try and keep players fresh for Sunday. Work load at the moment combined with lack of interest means not bothering heading up for this and will just watch on tv tonight. oot work couch couch 0-3 no Dons scorer. Quote
Ajja Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago Resenior has been blowing smoke up our ass a fair bit in the lead up. Did wonder if it was a tactic but I doubt they’ll come here fired up in any way. Could end up like Frankfurt but the top 8 thing and avoiding a round is an incentive to keep pressing on. Looks like they’ll make a few changes but seeing as they are basically French Chelsea that might be more potential for a beating if we aren’t on it. Like others, just get through it without damage. Strong showing against Killie on Sunday and further league climbing is much more important. Quote
Blow.Up.Sheep Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Still have a feeling we will win this 1-0 (Nisbet) COYR Quote
swaddon Posted 10 minutes ago Author Report Posted 10 minutes ago I'm fairly sure we haven't lost a game when I've started the match thread on here. So far. Quote
