Panda Posted June 20 Report Posted June 20 As tough as Hibs' drawing Midtjylland is, it could work out well for him. Although underdogs, not an impossible tie to win, and if they do I think they would take Midtjylland's seeding for QR3 (draw is before the QR2 games are played) so would be seeded for QR3. Good chance for them to get to the play-off round. They'll lose 5-0 on aggregate. Quote
Panda Posted June 20 Report Posted June 20 Although, even being seeded, their projected list of opponents looks tricky. Quote

If they do they have a chance and if they don't 5-0 is probably about right. Quote

tom_widdows Posted July 31 Report Posted July 31 So it would appear these are the potential teams the dons could face come Monday afternoon - Shaktar Donesk(UKR) or Panathanikos(GRE) - PAOK Salonika(GRE) or Wolfsberg (AUS) - Maccabi Tel Aviv (ISL) or Hamrun Spartans (MLT) (how the fuck is a maltese team potentially seeded?) - Young Boys (SUI) - AEK Lanrarca (CYP) or Legia Warsaw (POL) - FC Utrecht (NLD) or Servette (SUI) - FCSB (ROM) or Drita (KOS) - Midtjylland (DEN) or Fredrikstad(NOR) - CFR Cluj (ROM) or Braga (POR) - Ludogorets Razgrad (BUL) or Ferencváros (HUN) - Malmo (SWE) or FC Copenhagen (DEN) - Lech Poznan (POL) or Red Star Belgrade (SRB) Quote

Panda Posted August 1 Report Posted August 1 1 hour ago, manc_don said: The terrorists been kicked out the comp? No, Hamrun face Maccabi in QR3, but take their seeding as the draw is made before the QR3 ties are played (Monday to be precise). Hamrun were in the Champions League and have dropped down after losing to Kyiv. Hibs and Dundee United are now big underdogs in their Conference League QR3 ties, but the one good thing for them both is they will be seeded for the play-off draw as they'll take Partizan Belgrade & Rapid Vienna's seeding respectively. There's still some very tough teams who are unseeded though so they could still end up with a Utrecht, but there are also some very winnable ties there. From what I watched tonight though both need to improve massively, especially United. Quote

Panda Posted August 4 Report Posted August 4 (edited) Pairing 4 I think would be the one we want. FCSB (Steaua Bucharest in old money) have had a poor start to the season. Danny Armstrong (formerly of Kilmarnock) scored a hat-trick against them at the weekend in the Bucharest derby, and they were knocked out of the Champions League by losing home and away to Shkendija. Of course Drita (of Kosovo) could beat them, sure that would be a lovely trip for our Balkan lads. Clearly we want to avoid Panathinaikos who may well have found the shooting boots they lacked against Rangers. Edited August 4 by Panda 2 Quote
manc_don Posted August 4 Report Posted August 4 I’d say 3 or 4 are who we’d like to get. Thelin will understand both sides in pot 3, so that could be our best bet in all honesty. We will of course get panathinaikos Quote
tlg1903 Posted August 4 Report Posted August 4 (edited) Home to Bucharest or Drida. That's a winnable tie 2bf Edited August 4 by tlg1903 1 1 Quote

BigAl Posted August 4 Report Posted August 4 Think that draw was as good as it could get for us Our name is on the P S very unlike UEFA draw as no real faffing about and straight down to business Quote
Slim Posted August 4 Author Report Posted August 4 (edited) Drita seem to have a fairy respectable record in Europe, only being knocked out by some well known teams and never really being thrashed (although not really beating anyone of note either): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Drita#Drita_in_Europe Looks an absolute pain in the arse to get to, minimum of 2 connections from ABZ. I think I'd rather play the Romanians. Edited August 4 by Slim 1 Quote
Panda Posted August 4 Report Posted August 4 Great draw (presuming it's FCSB, I haven't really looked into Drita), but only if their current form continues. They had a very impressive season last campaign. Won the league & cup double (went from November until the EOS unbeaten in the league), and in Europe had some solid results such as beating PAOK three times, winning away to Qarabag, drawing away to Hoffenheim, beating Midtjylland, and making it to the last 16 of the Europa League (they did get hammered 4-0 by Rangers though - I don't actually remember that game taking place at all). On current form though, every chance Drita might do the business. I don't know if we prefer that trip or not. Quote

My gut instinct is it would better to go into the conference league 2bh. I appreciate that could come across as an attitude that lacks ambition but we would have a far better chance of winning some games and getting out of the league phase. Also less likely to get a confidence sapping doing from someone. Quote
