Like the sound of the lad. However, we do need to be looking at someone who can run up and down all day, and it's very unlikely to be an 18 year old.

Why not? We have two old guys, Clarkson, palaversa, and polvara. Youth in midfield was desperately needed, especially since Milne is a defender.

Transfer market site suggests Kjartansson is defensive midfielder who has also played at right back. Likes a yellow card by look of stats.

Guessing Findlay Marshall will be another of young players looking to move on soon.

According to his interview he was a forward and a winger until a coach moved him into the no 6 holding mid role.

I would class Clarkson, Palaversa and Polvara as relative youth at 23, 25 and 25 (the latter two having long spells of injury). In the last six months, Clarkson has finally reached the stage where he can do the miles, and for ninety minutes. Age isn't the issue at all though. I'm suggesting that it's unlikely that an 18 year old will have developed physically to the extent that they can cover the 10-13km in the top flight that were looking for. Not once or twice, but every week. That's what Ferguson is now doing in Italy, but wasn't with us, as an example. It's telling that he's described as a holding midfielder, and that's absolutely fine, and an area in which he can get minutes probably. It just means that we still need another midfielder in the door for the first eleven, which is a box to box midfielder. That's also fine, I know that we're not going to get all our signings in order of priority.

I cannot vouch for the accuracy or provenance, but came across this earlier from Jan this year:

https://targetscouting.com/2025/01/19/kjartan-mar-kjartansson-stjarnan-gardabaer-scout-report/

Quote

Kjartan Már Kjartansson is an 18-year-old Icelandic defensive midfielder playing for Stjarnan Gardabaer. Becoming a regular starter in the second half of the season, the U19 international made 17 appearances (1,176 minutes) between Besta deild karla and its finals during his second full season in the senior squad. Kjartansson had 6 yellow card bookings in that time and in Conference League qualifiers was booked two more times.

Physically, he is tall for his position with a broad-shouldered, lanky frame. Kjartansson is not particularly fast but utilizes his long strides to cover ground, especially during recoveries. With his size comes strength that holds up well at this level and is impressive for his age. Athletically, he more stands out for his frame than his movement abilities, so he works a lot on his positioning, although he is prone to a slow reaction to a pass or the odd late recovery.

From his position centrally in the midfield line, Kjartansson sticks to the base of midfield. From here, he places himself in passing lanes and keeps his hips open to the ball, allowing his instincts and reaction time to take the wheel. He can be a bit risky or slow in his reactions and primarily operates off ball defensively, knowing his physical limitations that often put him at a disadvantage in 1v1s. When Kjartansson does get taken on, it is his physicality that he can rely upon, especially when closing out as he can force possession backward himself. That physicality and strength comes into play in his duels, primarily going into challenges on his feet and using his strong frame to body opponents off ball. As a defender, he understands his limitations and typically plays it safe defensively outside of the natural aggression in physical duels.

When attacking, Kjartansson primarily stays back where he is comfortable in the base of midfield. From there, he prefers to dictate play with his calm on ball presence (with or without pressure) and his somewhat two-footedness that helps him spread play via the ground to either wing with ease. His distribution is wide-ranging and can be incisive in breaking lines or creating near-assists on passes into the final third. His vision and distribution accuracy from range make him an ideal fit at deep-lying playmaker.

While bigger clubs were fighting for the signature of Gísli Thórdarson, Kjartansson has developed into a useful no. 6 for Stjarnan while being two years younger. Playing smart football and knowing when to utilize his physicality are the keys to his success in senior football. Those strengths combined with typical deep-lying playmaker traits create a profile with more potential than his physical attributes suggest. Kjartansson will need a year or two more domestically to develop, but his youth and European experience suggest that he can become a reliable performer for clubs in the Eliteserien.

Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen have made an offer of €500,000 to AC Ajaccio for their 19-year-old striker, Moussa Soumano, who is under contract until 2026.

From L'Equipe. He was previously linked with Celtic.

Also some chat that we may be interested in Thierry Gale, who is a forward/left winger/No.10. Bolton & Dundee United also credited with an interest.

Mmm, article from April this year stating Celtic were interested in him amongst others but the most intriguing part of that is the fact that Brentford had allegedly already bid THREE MILLION EUROS for him.

Would be surprised if this were true, that three months later we got him for a sixth of that fee 🤔

Bit surprised by that as thought he looked decent at both Edinburgh City and Cove while on loan. Are we going to have enough Scots to meet the home grown rule at this rate?

He wouldn't need to be registered for Europe anyway due to his age and being at the club for more than two years.  Agreed it's a surprising move though, in Jimmy we trust I suppose.

Would fit the same way we got Miovski if I remember correctly. Linked with bigger clubs, current team gets relegated and in financial crisis, we swoop in with cut price deal.

I'm guessing his relatively poor stats in Ligue 2 has somewhat reduced his value also.

Not surprised. Didn't think Marshall or Emslie would have been ready for first team for at least a couple of years, if ever. Probably not worth taking the risk on.

I thought both looked like they would be decent options of the bench and no more of a risk than bringing in lads from Europe with little game time of a similar age for a fee.

Done now and we move on but just case they do make it I hope we get a sell on clause built in to any deals.

2 year deal doesn't bode too well for a sell on clause, or suggest that Ross County see him as a future superstar, unless the player is so confident in his own ability that he wasn't willing to commit longer.

I guess it's easier to write off players who you see every week. The risk in signing a foreign player is that they might turn out to be crap, whereas the risk in getting rid of the two young lads is that they might turn out to be very good. I think that risk is fairly low. For me it would be the equivalent of offering Sokler a three year deal, or McGarry or someone. You get a serviceable squad replacement player, but not likely to turn into something else. It's not just that though, the best thing for young lads, and their careers, is to get regular professional game time to see if they can carve a decade of wages out of it. Both have some really good attributes that could happily see them making a career. Good luck to them.

Hopefully got a sell on clause or buy back option in there.

From Jimmy Thelin's quotes on the online article:-

"We have also protected ourselves if he does well, so this is a good arrangement for all involved.”

I just read that as we will kneecap the fucker if we are drawn against county in the cup but yes on reflection that does sound like we have a clause in the contract.

We sure we are all talking about the same Soumano?

All mention of Brentford interest (and apparent 3M bid) for Mousa Soumaso back in April originates from just one article from "AfricaFoot" - however Brentford are also linked with 2.5M-rated Sambou Soumano of recently promoted Lorient, which seems more plausible.  What's the chances they picked up on the wrong gossip?

You could well be right min

Journalists apparently are all not truthful and trustworthy and upon review of my link, I note that as you say the only source quoted is the aforementioned Africa Foot 😉
