If we'd done the sensible thing last summer and signed him on loan instead of spunking £400k on him, how many people think we would have followed that up and paid cash for him this summer? It was an incredible risk and it doesn't really look like paying off.

The importance of those attributes is diluted somewhat when that is a striker’s only attributes.

I would like to think that over the last 5 years or so that we have evolved from being a team that has a striker in the starting 11 on the basis that he “puts himself about” and “holds the ball up well”. I haven’t seen anything from Cosgrove that suggests his role should be anything more than taking over the “we’re out of ideas, let’s thump the ball up to the big man for the last 10 minutes” role that Ash Taylor previously occupied.

Seems sensible to me. Did well at Dumbarton, not so well at Falkirk. Now he’s a couple of years older, a whole season playing in the SPL will either show him up as not being good enough or cement his position as the successor to Lewis. If he is to be our future first choice keeper then we need him to get as many top league games under his belt as we can until the time comes for him to take over. He’s not going to progress sitting on the bench for another season.

At least it’ll be a cracking battle in the streets if the Russians get past Croatia.

Maybe so but I have a feeling that if Celtic offered Christie to us for £500k and he was keen to sign, we’d find the cash.

Not sure if we have anything left in the pot for transfer fees but Chris Cadden has a year left in his contract so could be available relatively cheaply. That would be an exciting signing worth pushing the boat out for.

Hamilton signed Ziggy Gordon who plays the same positions as this McGowan guy. Hamilton don't seem to be the sort of team that doubles up on players in each position.

Jack Ross gives Chris Maguire a 2 year contract at Sunderland in addition to the Hearts goalie and ex-Hearts defender Alim Ozturk. I hope he knows what he's doing filling his team with mediocre SPL players.
