McGhee wants to hand our record fines to Diamond and Foster
baggy89 replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
It's harsh because it is quite obviously inconsistent with how other red carded players have been dealt with throughout the rest of the season. That, however, is completely irrelevant as even the mere mention of this will surely add to the dis-harmonious state of the squad and at this stage of the season is likely to not have been forgotten about come the start of pre-season. -
Proof (if needed) that they just don't give a fuck
baggy89 replied to glasgow sheep's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I think I read the thread Crawford is referring too, and it was full of posts "like enjoy stacking shelves at Tesco" etc... Now I'm not saying that those opinions are necessarily incorrect, but if your in your late teens and all your life you've been working towards becoming a professional footballer your going to be pretty upset... Then again if your foolish enough to think a chat site with more than it's fair share of morons is going to have written anything nice about you... The outrage on the hat now is amusing and the slagging of the young players is equally so. No sense of irony at all. -
McGhee wants to hand our record fines to Diamond and Foster
baggy89 replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Divisions in the dressing room, half the first team out of contract, and record fines for those that will be here next season for being in the frustrated position of giving a shit. -
Ifil was playing up until Danny Wilson took over. Wilson likes footballers all over the park, I always thought Ifil was a bit more of an "if in doubt hoof it out" type centre back, which is no bad thing. Isn't Gus Poyet manager at Brighton nowadays?
-
It is, if only for bowing to the minor pressure from a few malcontents. Regardless. I don't agree that keeping McGhee will ease the divisions within the support. The fact is he is not fit for purpose, there is no other argument. However, as our board are incapable of making any type of decision other than a bad one, I'm expecting McGhee will be on the touchline at the start of the season and I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two transfer fee's paid in the summer. I can only hope that the Angus costumes label, is at this moment being marked MM by Mrs McGhee.

I think you have to bear in mind that football in 1988 is so far removed from what it is today it might as well be a different sport. the extra grand a week that Charlie is talking about is probably equivalent to his highest wage as a player. Christ Doesn't Zander live on Rubislaw den? McLeish lived on Deeside Garden FFS. Anyway, I remember being in (I think) P5 when he signed and instantly deciding to support Arsenal (in England), going back to school and my best mate had done the same thing. I also remember there being folk in my class who didn't know and didn't believe we had signed him. Just for the record the supporting Arsenal thing only lasted a week or two.

Dons join queue for Mehmet/6 New Players required 21/4/10
baggy89 replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I heard there's a player just been released by Darlo that is definitely worth a look... -
What's wrong with that? When the odds are released for next season I doubt there will be many bookies who don't have Barnsley down as relegation candidates.
-
True, get paid a lot for relegation scrap in championship, or get paid peanuts for relegation scrap in the SPL? At least in the Championship if he stands out and Barnsley get relegated he will get picked up by another Championship side offering even more money the following season.
-
I thought this particular philosophy was an essential part of being an Aberdeen supporter?

You'll also notice the £8k p/w figure that the morons will no doubt jump on. Getting the excuses in early. Also whats this about; So 13 outfield players then? -

So a couple of months ago we could barely compete with L2 clubs in attracting players. Now we are supposedly going after Kevin Kyle (who I assume will be attracting interest from Championship/L1 clubs), Billy Mehmet (who according to the article is attracting interest from Hearts, Championship & L1 clubs), and Steve MacLean (who despite being on loan here this last 1/2 season is still under contract to a Championship club just relegated to L1). Shall we run a sweepstake as to which date in August McGhee will admit defeat in the pursuit of these players before being left with a choice between some Blue Square North clogger, Jim Hamilton and announcing having Maguire back from loan is "like a new signing". -
Ach it'll be fine when we get our new signings... Maguire and Considine.
-
If its any help its 1-1 now.
-
Yeah suppose. Pity, seemed very composed and that seemed to transfer to confidence in the 'dale defence. If he leaves Utd this summer it will be to the Championship or top half L1 at worst.
-
If we were to get even £200k for him it would add around £3.8k a week plus his wage to our budget. I know there would be signing on fees etc. I'd be happy with Cheltenham's current keeper who I know for sure is out of contract at the end of the season and is only 24. http://www.ctfc.com/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10434~30204,00.html Alternatively I'd also be pretty pleased if Fergie gave us this guy on a season long loan http://www.manutd.com/publish.sps?pagegid={586F3BDA-BAD0-484E-AA1B-C0464DF06DF7}&teamid=435§ion=playerProfile&bioid=92163 It's just a pity the best keeper (no not the £18k a week Kasper Schmeichel) in L2 signed a new contract in March http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6009620,00.html

Somebody needs to let the league leaders know that.

Paton at 5' 10" and Maguire at 5' 8" offer no height and very little physical presence to be an effective SPL forward pairing.

Ex Dons Captain slates "non trying experienced players"
baggy89 replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I can't quite remember what the point I was trying to make was , I'm going to guess that it was; surely the players are aware of your point and they'd have to be terminally stupid to deliberately not try or even give that impression. Especially those coming to the end of their contracts that would be hopeful of a bumper pay day in englandshire. If they genuinely are going out to deliberately not try questions need to be asked as to why that is and what exactly the current set up will do to make a new set of players not, not try. Especially as in recent times financial constraints have meant an overall reduction in quality as a team is dismantled and rebuilt. Either way I think I'm past trying to blame anyone, this summer should have always been the point at which things should have been ripped up to start again, and nothing that has happened over the last 12 months has altered that. Thanks and good luck to players who may or may not have been trying over the last 12 to 18 months and are out of contract. Thanks and good luck to the management team whether the players you inherited tried for you or not I think it's evident that things haven't worked out out and I doubt if any manager has ever turned things round from having the worst ever managerial record at a club to having one of the best. -

baggy89 replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Come on min, Bobby. If, as is being suggested, the players aren't trying no manager or scout is going to recommend or sign these players in the hope that they can make them play! It isn't, for whatever reason, working. Irrespective of whatever happened in the past, both in terms of Calderwood and his mid-level managerial achievements and Magoo and his fantastic achievements as a player for us, his lower to mid-level managerial achievements for other clubs and his atrocious performance now, we are nowhere near where we should be. The team is better than 8th at best and 11th at worst. I can remember using the original forum at the time of Alex Miller, and there were several advocating his presence right to the end. We need to start again this summer. A board that can allegedly afford to punt a manger who finishes fourth can afford to punt a manager who finishes 8th to 11th. -
Thank Fuck for that! Surely the board can now punt the worst manager in the history of Aberdeen Football Club without fear of ever being accused of it being too early.

Major Restructuring in the Pipeline for SPL
baggy89 replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
That's probably not altogether unlikely, reduced TV revenue, expensive change of management, poor attendance, low league position. I'm sure it all adds up. -
