  1. If Broonie does take the job, that will be curtains for Shay Logan. Those two hate each other, Broonie might rise above it but there is no way Shay will.
  2. Welcome home Stephen! Stand free loon. #onceadonalwaysadon
  3. Just had a read on the managerial career of Martin Rennie (who I hear you ask!) Exactly what I said. It was an article in the Evening Express that said Brian Irvine recommended him. So it piqued my interest. First off he had no senior professional football career but neither did Jose Mourinho. From what I can tell, every club he has gone to, he has improved them and broken records. He has managed tier 2 clubs in the US primarily but also successfully managed Vancouver Whitecaps. He was the manager when Kenny Miller and Barry Robson went there. He has won and been nominated for numerous managerial awards in the states and was commended for his attacking style of football. I think we should be looking at a proper coach like this rather than just a big name ex-footballer. I would still take Paul Lambert though....
  4. Has anyone suggested Paul Lambert? He has been pretty successful as a manager and has the experience as a player of winning and winning big. He has been managing League One sides of late, so Pittodrie shouldn't be seen as a step down for him. I guess it would depend upon how much we were willing to pay and if his family is settled in middle England. Plus he is out of a job just now, so no compensation to pay!
  5. The latest Scottish Government figures have Aberdeen City as the 4th lowest council area on mainland Scotland in terms of infection rates. Aberdeen City is also the lowest council area in the whole of Scotland that has a football league team, across all four divisions. This is good news for the coming revision to the lockdown tiers. FYI Aberdeen City recorded 27.3 cases per 100,000 for the 7 day period to 28th Feb. To put this in perspective, the tier threshold that they talked about previously for tier 3 was 300 per 100,000 I think. Therefore on this basis, Aberdeen City would be in tier 1 or 2. It is likely that the Scottish Government will revise these thresholds to make them more strict but still promising. Perhaps Pittodrie could be one of the first to be allowed fans back again very soon?
  6. I think Johny Hayes needs time out the starting line up! He has been one of, if not our worst player in the past couple of months. He has been a complete passenger and a shadow of his usual self. Although he hasn't had game time or shown a reason to let him start, I would start with McGinn on the left. I would also let McLennan either start, or at least have 30-45 minutes.
  7. I appreciate that this season we haven't clicked in the forward areas when it comes to goals, however, just a question to those that say McInnes plays negative football and we are too defensive - how can you call playing a starting line up with two out and out wingers (Hayes and Kennedy), a number 10 (Scott Wright), a centre forward (Sam Cosgrove) and another winger/forward (Ryan Hedges) defensive? I could understand if we had Logan and Leigh playing in the wide positions and we effectively had 5 defenders on the pitch but we effectively have 5 attacking players and I would argue that Ferguson and McCrorie are both box to box midfielders, rather than defensive midfielders so really we only have 4 (If you include Lewis) truly defensive players in our usual starting line up. I just think that a number of factors have contributed to our lack of goals and consistency this season - injuries (we've had plenty) suspensions, player ineligibility and match postponements etc. We have not been able to get a flow and rhythm going. We are creating chances but just not finishing them. If we were going through matches with a handful of half chances, I would be worried and very unhappy, however, we are creating and creating a lot. I believe, had Cosgrove been on 75% of the form he was on last season and the season before, we would be ahead of Celtic right now. One thing which I do feel we have been extremely disappointing at, and I blame the manager and coaching staff along with the players, is scoring from corners. We have had SO many corners this season and I think we have scored less than a handful. We have a big team, so there is no excuse for that statistic.
  8. In Working RedTV Couch 2-0 Hedges and Hornby Also how I think we will line up: Lewis Hoban Taylor Considine Kennedy Ferguson McCrorie Hayes Hedges Hendry Hornby How I'd like to see us line up: Lewis Hoban Taylor Considine Kennedy Ferguson McCrorie Hedges MacLennan McGinn Hornby I think Hayes has been really poor the last wee while, when you compare him to Kennedy and he maybe just needs a rest. I think we need a #10 and McGinn can provide that. Alternative is to put McGinn out wide and bring Hedges back into the #10 role.
  9. From what I can see (https://kassiesa.net/uefa/qual2021.html) Scotland will have an extra European place next season, taking the number up to 5. This just shows how important it is that ALL Scottish clubs do well in Europe. I know this will be a most unwelcome comment but if we struggle and finish 4th in the league this season, we will have Rangers to thank for their good performances over the last two seasons for this! Let the fireworks commence! I've already picked out a nice tree for my stringing up..... ?
  10. Does anyone know how long Hendry's contract is at St. Johnstone?
  11. In the circumstances, I am pleased with the work the management have done. I don't think we have a long term fix, as Hornby is definitely not going to be available to us at the end of the season, especially if he does well and I am not sure if we will be able to get Hendry at the end of the season, unless the price is right. What I am pleased about, is that McCrorie is now unrestricted and can play against Rangers. We need that settled midfield duo of Ferguson and McCrorie playing every week. I do feel we have lost a #10 in Wright and that is something we will need to try and fill. Hopefully McGinn can step up and fill that gap. I am not sure any of the new signings are that style of forward?
  12. TBF to Ash, he has been pretty good of late. He has got a couple of MotM awards too. I think, if he has someone like Hoban and Considine next to him to do the football, he is the guy to win the headers and make the blocks. Not pretty but effective. He does has his moments though! If he didn't, he would be playing at a much higher level though, wouldn't he? I do agree though, another central defender as cover would've been nice.
  13. Possibly, you might've mentioned their names to her that day?
  14. "Statistics are like miniskirts - they give you good ideas but hide the important things!" RIP Ebbe. Absolute legend!
  15. BTW, I don't know if anyone has noticed but year on year, our coefficient has gone up. And with this it is more likely that we will be seeded in the 3rd qualifying round. If we keep doing what we are doing, I.e. getting to the 3rd round each year then we will, soon enough, be seeded and then have a far greater chance of qualifying for the play off round. If you look at a lot of the seeded teams in the 3rd qualifying round, they haven't done much in Europe just been steady qualifiers year on year and had the odd play off round and maybe getting to the group stages. Patience is the game.
  16. We had a few decent chances but non to trouble their keeper. I think we did well. It is easy to judge after the match and say we were to defensive and weren't brave enough but the thing that we will never know is, would they have picked us off and ended up hammering us, if we had gone for it? The way they were passing the ball about.. probably. I think we did the right thing, perhaps could've had Wright on a bit sooner may 60 mins rather than 70.
  17. All spot on! I think Brewster is in the photo but his head is chopped off! Certainly looks like his monstrous build! Not sure if that is Scott Thomson on the far left cut off. If it is, there is only one player in the photo not linked with the Dons! Not sure who he is but I recognise him.
  18. What I would say and it's just my opinion..... we played well tonight and probably deserved to take the match to extra time. We are far more exciting going forward this season with Hayes, Hedges and Wright. I really like the look of Watkins but..... we are crying out for Cosgrove or Main! We need a striker - someone that has the instinct to be in the right place, at the right time. I'm not saying we would've won tonight with Cosgrove, in fact with that ref, he would've been booked for consistent fouling, as would Main. For us to continue winning games and to challenge at the top end of the league, we need more actual strikers on our books. I think that was part of the problem against Motherwell, when we lost two early goals, the belief was not there as we knew we would struggle to find the net more than once.
  19. Check the Dunfermline Athletic photo below. It is a sea of future/past Aberdeen players! I looked it up and there were no fewer than 7 future Don's players and 2 former Don's players. There is also a future manager too! See who can get them all.....no cheating! BTW not all the players are in the photo!
  20. Anyone know which of their players are out due to COVID-19? Is it all first picks or fringe players or mixture of both? You know how the newspapers love to sensationalize things - there is probably only 2 of their first team regulars and the rest will be 'squad members'! I am praying it is all their key players though!! ? So glad the club are showing this again. Really wish I had cancelled my Premier Sports as soon as the first match was over. What a waste of money! Looking forward to it tonight, I just hope that we got the glitch out of our system on Sunday and we are right back up for it again tonight! I am hoping that the loss of players and manager and lack of game time for Sporting will play in our favour. There will be huge pressure on them to win as it would be seen as an embarrassment if they lost to us. Even although Rangers beat Portuguese opposition twice last season.
  21. Just got a reply from @Aberdeenfc on twitter to say they hope to release info on PPV this afternoon! ????
  22. Doubt the club will risk putting the squad on a scheduled public flight. That would be an uncontrolled environment in which they could contract COVID-19. Less risk chartering a flight.
  23. Has anyone seen anywhere, what would happen with regards to the european placing, should the season be finished now, or made null and void? I presume, if it was null and void, they would use the final placings from last season for european qualification. If it was finalised now, who gets the Scottish cup place? I suppose the fairest way to allocate that would be to the next place in the league, which happens to be us. A little unfair on Hearts or Hibs as one of them would definitely have made it to the final but how else can you call it? Any rumours or suggestions?
