August 18, 20178 yr comment_194752 I thought he was already gone. His brother (I think it was a brother, might have been some other relative though) used to be the janny at my primary school. Affa fine bloke but dead for many a year. Report
August 18, 20178 yr comment_194756 Heard of him but didnt realise he was as recent as the 60s.Was there nae another Tubby(or Soapy) Ogston back in the war era? Could be a bit of senility creeping in... Report
August 18, 20178 yr comment_194761 I remember him well, he was the goalie for the first 4 or 5 years of my Pittodrie experience. Big unit for those days but very capable and threw himself around a bit. I played in goal at primary school and he was a bit of a hero along with Ernie (see above) Winchester. Liverpool bought him as cover for Tommy Lawrence IIRC. Tubby had a massive boot up the park from hand and from the goal kick spot. I seem to recall anecdotal tales from some of my Huntly family of him kicking the ball straight out of the park over the opposite goals at Christie Park: also that he played Highland league before and after his Dons/Liverpool/Doncaster career. Buckie Thistle or Peterheid? Anyone clarify? Report
August 18, 20178 yr comment_194762 Before my time I'm afraid. Of course I've heard the name mentioned often enough but Bobby Clark was the first keeper I remember. Report

August 19, 20178 yr comment_194783 Before my time too, first one I remember playing was also Bobby Clark, but I was at school in the same class from P4 upwards as Ernie McGarr's younger daughter... What a dame she was. A one girl wrecking machine. Her old man could sink a pint or two ana.. Report
August 19, 20178 yr comment_194787 I liked Ernie McGarr There was a goalie who could punch a ba' Never met his daughter though. Report
August 19, 20178 yr comment_194798 Also before my time, but I mind him being pointed out to me at Culter games in the early 90's Re: Soapy Ogston, that comes from an old soapworks on the Gallowgate owned by Ogston & Co. Latterly next door to the Lumpy. Report
August 21, 20178 yr comment_194866 Well before my time. But, I do remember reading about him. I did think he had already passed. R.I.P Report
August 5, 20241 yr comment_259116 It's a bit late but loved watching Ogston in the late 50s early 60s I was just a wee lad. My dad took me to a lot of the matches at Pittodrie. Tubby was a great goalie back then. Different times. Ernie Winchester Charlie Cooke Ally Shewan. I moved to Canada in 1963. I've missed seeing the Dons every day since then. I'm 73 now and remember reading Tubby had passed. All the best to his Family kids Grand kids. I loved watching your dad Granda play goal for the Dons. Report
