The 25-year-old striker, who arrived at Boundary Park in the summer on a two-year contract, has endured a tough time. Rooney’s form has been poor and he has scored only seven goals, four in the league. Last week he missed a good chance to level the game at Walsall as a sub, and minutes later saw his penalty kick saved. Rooney was then an unused substitute at Port Vale at the weekend. Manager Lee Johnson has decided to let the Dublin-born marksman depart to free funds for a new marksman to boost Athletic’s paltry goal record. Former Inverness striker Rooney enjoyed a prolific spell north of the border when he played for Inverness, netting 53 goals across three seasons. If he isn't involved on Saturday, then unlikely ot feature in cup semi either I'd imagine. Got a fair old contingent of Irish lads at Pittodrie now....as well as a load of gingers.
