WILLIE MILLER admits Aberdeen are fighting a losing battle to hold on to rising star Chris Maguire.

The Pittodrie club are desperate to keep the striker who is out of contract at the end of this season.

But football director Miller revealed attempts to negotiate a new contract have failed so far.

Miller said: "We have been trying to get Chris around the negotiating table for the last 18 months but he has so far refused all our approaches.

"The fact we began the process so long ago shows how highly we rate and value him.

"We were showing faith in Chris long before this season and he has shown why we knew he'd become a top player.

"But I doubt if we could offer him good enough terms to stay."

I reckon he's a "guest" surfer on here and is just waiting long enough to re-sign so that Stoney will explode!

I think that a boom that would register on the richter scale

The article seems to suggest that had McGhee still been in charge, he would be offski however with Broon in and settled now and Maguire is obviously enjoying working under Broon, he will sit down and discuss a new deal.

Why is it when ever a player plays good it means that he enjoys playing under the said manager at the time.

If this was the case then he has been ripping the fans off when he has not enjoyed playing under the last 2 managers.

The last manager was a fucking buffoon and no-one enjoyed that sorry period in the clubs history.

That's what Miller says but part of that negotiation appears to have been lending him to Kilmarnock. I wouldn't take that as a strong desire to keep me if I was in his position.

Sum's it up really... I do think that Maguire needs to screw his head on a bit tighter, but pretty much everything in the past 18 months connected with AFC has been a disaster, including the career progression of Maguire.

Wrong forum. Try here.

Agreed.

I never mentioned that it was my opinion, just I thought that the article suggested that this was the case.

It's true that the McGhee experiment went horribly wrong, but you have to say the players don't exactly come out of this covered in glory.  Effort should be the minimum requirement, and it should be delivered wholeheartedly for the benefit of the paying public - regardless of what they thought about the old Boss.

Think he was unlucky not to get man of the match today...

Don't say that to Mini or Stoney, they'll go apoplectic!

Not at all, people are entitled to their opinions, I just think he was pish today apart from some bits of the second half, Derek Young and Considine had very good GAMES and by games I mean roughly 90 minutes.

Young had a good 90 minutes?

Now I know you're at it.

Was up there for MOTM, obviously you thought he had a poor game then?

Oi. Mini. should you not be in a crappy pub/"nightclub" in Aberdeen somewhere failing to pull some dog?

Not at all, just the notion of Young being excellent for the entirety of the 90 minutes is bollocks.

Young was decent. No more, no less. Considine was ok, not really tested to any extent.

Thought Considine looked as good going forward as I've seen him.

Agree that he didn't have much to do defensively though.

In fairness the guy on Radio Scotland did say that he ran Vernon close for sponsors MOTM. He did however also say that Bebo NOT Vernon should have got it ;)

Quite.

I thought he didn't do to much in the first half.

But with Brooners decision to swap him and Magennis he showed up more. And made two great crosses for Vernon to get on the end of.

Not MOTM material for me though, not today.

Maguire was one of the best players on the park this afternoon. Evidently he doesn't give a shite...
