Can't remember if there was a specific film thread so here goes.

Anyone been/going to the cinema to see anything in particular?

I've been to see Inception and Toy Story 3 recently. Both were fantastic. Saw Toy Story in 3D but I'm not overly sure that it was necessary, but that doesn't detract from the fact that it was a great film. Fitting way to end the trilogy

Sadly this future started quite a while ago. I miss the days of watching things on set days, then chatting about them at work, and looking forward to 'next week'. What an old man thing to say.

  • No one watch films anymore 🤔 Ten months and no posts 😲 Watched "I Swear" last night. A true story of tourettes sufferer John Davidson from Galashiels. Starting with him going to seconda

I've never seen Daniel Craig as Bond much to the horror of my girlfriends  ;D

I saw Suffragette which was quite good

Has anyone seen The Lobster? I've heard mixed reviews about it but think I may try to catch it

I thought Spectre was pretty decent.  It seemed a bit slow in the middle but livened up when Waltz appeared, and he was excellent.  Andrew Scott also very good.

I do like Mendes's nods to the Connery films - clearly there were nods to From Russia With Love and You Only Live Twice in Spectre.

Went to see Kill Your Friends last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Victoria. Filmed in one take from a single camera. Brilliant film.

But by fuck is the lead an idiot.

Spectre was ok

I saw Tangerine last night - a transgender revenge comedy - very good

Next outing will probably be Carol

Started watching that the other night because it's got very good reviews.  It was a bit loud for the mood I was in.  So is it worth watching all the way through?

The dialect takes a bit of getting used to but yeh it's worth a watch - I thought it was quite funny but grim too

Carol for me tonight - two brilliant actresses in Cate Blanchett and Roony Mara but I really didn't like it - so painfully slow and I didn't get any vibes about their relationship

Watching Buffalo Soldiers. It's good.

EDIT: Can't have been that good. Forgotten everything about it already!

No idea what it was about and couldn't be arsed wasting energy trying to remember.

I rarely go the cinema. It has to be highly recommended by a trusted source for me to go but that's twice in a month.

Black Mass was excellent and The Hateful 8 will also be excellent when I go for the second time in ages in early January.

The cast was superb and Johnny Depp is utterly compelling, an outstanding acting performance.

I was just watching the trailer for The Hateful 8 this afternoon, really looking forward to seeing it.

I've also heard a lot of great things about Black Mass and hoping to catch that sometime soon too, glad you enjoyed it!

I do recommend Black Mass. The acting is awesome and it's a powerful film.

If you're like me and despise paying money to watch mediocre or slightly good, you will not be disappointed.

This is gripping stuff and a dramatisation of a true story.

Quentin Tarantino will inevitably not disappoint but whilst Django was good, nowhere near as good as Inglorious. I hope this one is better than Django because it would be sad to see a great career going out losing steam, although for what he gave us already - Pulp Fiction being the best - he gets a lifelong pass. Jackie Brown very underrated if you've not seen it, an absolutely fantastic film.

The force awakens.

I left the cinema feeling a sense of relief that it hadn't been fucked up. After the disappointment of the prequels this was a pleasant surprise. That said it was impossible not to be a little sad at one event in particular.

I didn't bother the first time round and I won't be going to this.

Am I the only one who has never seen a Star wars film?

Am I missing much, or is the excellent 95% principle (Roger Anthony, Melbourne) at play here?

"Find out what 95% of people do and think then do and think the complete opposite".

I saw Phatom Menace in 1999 (I think?) when it came out. (I remember absolutely zilch about it) Then about 6 months ago I finally saw the rest of the Star Wars films for the first time. In one day. I did enjoy them but they were never going to live up to the hype. I'm going to see the new one tonight. I've only heard good things so all I want is an couple of hours of entertainment. I don't need it to be the greatest film I've ever seen. (That would obviously be Rocky IV anyway.  )

I saw Phantom Menace in 1999 (I think?) when it came out. (I remember absolutely zilch about it)

Wish I could say the same. However I can only recall one scene from 'attack of the clones' and the ending of 'revenge of the sith'

All 3 were shocking IMO. Almost as shocking is Lucas deciding to fuck around with the originals with cheap CGI. The original puppets were far more realistic.

I think I'll wait till January before attempting to see it.

Now the 'Eddie the Eagle' biopic on the other hand......

I enjoyed The Force Awakens. I admit I fell asleep but that wasn't because of the film! It will undoubtedly prove to be the biggest movie of all time. I don't think it's that good by any means but it is worth watching if you're vaguely a Star Wars fan.

I finally got to see The Lobster, superb, loved it

I went to see Daddy's Home a couple of days ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of cheap chuckles.

Went to see Sunset Song at the Belmont Cinema. It was shite. Austere and pointless.

That was despite the exceptional beauty of Agyness Deyn appearing in almost every scene.

It was sunset song rocket, the phrase about pigs and lipstick springs to mind.

I saw The Danish Girl today - very moving film and beautifully shot - Eddie Redmayne puts in a superb performance

Watched Inside Out last night, very enjoyable.

Good film. Cleverer that it seems at first glance. Like many Pixar efforts. Can't be properly appreciated by kids or thick adults.

Went to see In the Heart of the Sea last night. Nae a bad film. Just a bitty too much animal butchery for my liking. Hard to believe how much more spasticated mankind was just a couple of centuries ago.

I took my kids to see the New Star Wars and the Peanuts movie before Christmas.

New Star Wars amused me as it was original Star Wars rebooted without it having the stigma of being referred to as a reboot. My 10 year old lad enjoyed, my 8 year old daughter wanted to know how long was left after about 1/2 an hour.

Peanuts movie I wanted to know how long was left after less than 5 minutes.

Got an Amazon Fire stick for Christmas and proceeded to install Kodi and Spintztv (or similar). Then got moaned at for sitting down to watch Creed (as its not a Christmas Movie apparently). I enjoyed it, like star Wars its a reboot in all but name, although I suppose all the Rocky films are in a way. Vince Howard from Friday night Lights was good as Adonis. Nice touch using Andre Ward and Tony Bellew. The fight with Leo Sporino is well choreographed as were the sparring earlier in the film, just a shame the Pretty RiCky Conlon reverted to the traditional Rocky style of constant knock-out punches being landed with unrealistic results.

Also watched Hateful 8 was really looking forward to it but finished it a little disappointed. It's a Tarantino film and its a western so it should have been right up my street. I preferred Django. Perhaps if I was American and could buy into the North South divides and racial tensions that simmer just under the surface of everyday American life I may have bought into the characters more, but I'm not so I didn't. I will give it another watch as I sat down to it after driving 600 miles in a day.

Oh and I watched Joy the story of the inventor of the magic mop...  Odd choice of a story, odd interest from A list actors in taking on roles in the film, odd kind of story telling, very odd family. Oddly enjoyable.
