Firstly no intention to wind up Rico ( but it is a bonus) by starting this more than forty eight hours ahead of January window closing BUT as a squad we are all over the fucking place and even at this early stage I would imagine we all would have opinions on what need to happen over the summer.

Appreciate that certain things might be addressed in the remaining forty eight odd hours of the winter one BUT given our performance to date, coupled to us being manager less, I wouldn't stake any money on it

He went back to play in England for "family reasons", according to AFC Heritage.

He signed for a diddy outfit called "Chelsea".

Peter Nicholas was potentially one of our best value for money signings ever. Capped almost eighty times for Wales and a fair few of them as captain.

Although only at AFC for a short period of time, he played over fifty games for us.

A real shame he left so soon, but his young son had some medical issues that meant they had to move back south to get the support network of family.

Also sad that he will be remembered by many as missing a penalty in the penalty shoot out defeat to the old Hun outfit.

Struggle to imagine almost forty years on us being capable of signing a player of that standing nowadays

I dunno, he has improved significantly since he went to St Mirren and has caught my eye a few times. He's scored quite a few winning goals for them the past year too.

Apart from the fact signing a boy for £500k we punted a couple of years back cause he was shite would be up there with the most embarrassing things we’ve ever done football wise, he’s just not very good. Missed a pen (an absolutely shite pen too) in a cup semi. Only thing he ever did.

He’s another who’s just not a footballer and looking good at St Mirren is just not the same thing as being at the level we should be looking to sign - see also Olusanya.

Same question as I asked about Olusanya applies too. Would Motherwell, Hearts or Hibs ( the teams we should be benchmarking against) sign him? No, they wouldn’t so if he’s not good enough for them, he’s not good enough for us.

I'm with you. He's a decent player, with good athleticism and strength. Not a brilliant footballer, but far from terrible.

We didn't punt him last time round either, he was a loanee that we chose not to go after. Correctly too, as all things being perfect (which they weren't), he wouldn't have got much game time, and he subsequently took the opportunity as a young lad to work hard for St Mirren with lots of game time.

Not glamorous at all but yes from me. Proven at this level, big strong mobile athletic and goal scorer. On form and I think fair to say one of the best from the rest. And 500k is not a high price. The next Billy stark?

Aye, he's not the kind of signing that would see a jump in season ticket sales but I defo think he could be effective.

Re the hearts, hibs and motherwell comment from the moog. I don't care what they are doing 2bh. Hearts signed Kabore FFS and I wouldn't want him anywhere near our team. We can only focus on ourselves and I can see why Robinson thinks Phillips would do a good job for us. At the moment it looks like we have withdrawn our interest anyway

Sad to see how far our expectations seem to have fallen really.

There are limits lads. Still, at least somebody at the club had the good sense to run a mile as soon as they mentioned actual cash having to be involved, so thank god for that - there is still some common sense within the club…

Don't mind Phillips as a player and we need more energy in midfield, but after his celebration at Pittodrie last season he can rot in Paisley, and wouldn't be giving them 500k for him either.

Sticking with St Mirren, I see Calvin Ramsay has joined them on loan for the season.

It would be some laugh on here if we hadn't won six games out of seven this season, off the back of not having been absolutely dire for 18 months. Can't help but feel there are a lot of unrealistic expectations of the manager and DoF and an underestimation of how bad things were last season.
