Dennis Geiger apparently coming on loan from Hoffenheim. (Another) Holding midfielder, hasn’t played for them at all this season and was apparently bombed out of the squad after criticising the higher-ups:

I take it, that by going for Geiger, we'll be set up to play on the counter.

Joking aside, is part of our issue, signing players not currently playing fitba, for numerous reasons.

I know we shop in the bargain area, but surely even Aberdeen, can buy/take in some players without a reduced to clear sticker on them.

The loan market is generally players that are not getting a game or young players seeking development- for once in the summer we looked as though we had reduced that but unfortunately had to revert back to loan market when it became clear those we signed on contracts weren’t that good or were deemed project players “for the future “

our recruitment has been generally poor for years

I don’t hold out much hope for anyone else coming in that will move the needle

Our problem is signing players in positions we no longer need.

Is there any news on Knooster as surely if he is out for any length of time we have to get another centre back in.

Think it will be tomorrow before we hear any further update on him, but he is still in hospital down here allegedly

Doubt we'll see him back any time soon.

Really? We have not even see afeez play. And who’s to say this boy and afeez can’t play next to each other. Based on what we’ve seen of late, we are not exactly a squad with capable center mids. Two tougher mids alongside a Clarkson or Cameron for example and two creative wingers is good balance. I suppose add Kjarten but these two new boys are a bit more experienced, that one of these two also alongside Kjarten. Much more appealing than what we saw yesterday, and tougher options for once.

Factor in shinnie is of contract, and sivert and Armstrong are 34. Sivert may well leave now or in summer, aouchiche is prob away. Different era and style of football obviously, but like cooper and Simpson in the middle of midfield is not a bad thing. We’ve complained we’re so lightweight in midfield, one stronger center mid does not complete a squad.

Getting no complaints from me, we’ve seen all season we are a very lightweight team. Polvara not tough enough, palaversa not good enough (ego), aouchiche not consistent enough and too expensive (ego), shinnie and Armstrong not able to last 90 mins game after game. Plus not a long term commitment here, a 5 month trial. Throw in not having a manager, no long term financial commitment too. Based on these players and location too, clearly ones lutz either knows or has used his resources to get recommendations. Time will tell if that good!

tougher players alongside flair is what we have been crying out for. One more winger and send milanovic out on loan to get regular playing time. He was player of the year in Australia, there’s surely something these.

Another central defender, a left sided probably, is a must if knoester’s injury is what it looks. Especially if he’s still in hospital.
everything we’ve learned this season tells us last summer was a shit transfer summer. Not the January anyone expected but why wait until summer for an overhaul. No fucking around. At least if we add a manager now he has a more balanced squad to work with.

Interesting read on Geiger, a first team bundesliga player with over 120 appearances, once valued at 13 milllion euros. Frozen out for criticizing club management. Hoffenheim are 3rd in the top tier, no shame to not be playing that level at present. Cappad at all levels in Germany except full internationalist.

Low risk high reward. Could be another palaversa, or could shine, time will tell!

Reading up on Geiger, his goals and assists for a midfielder is not too bad, especially when you consider the level he's been playing at (Bundesliga, Champions League & Europa League). Also holding midfielder appears to just be one of a few positions - plays a lot at CM and sometimes as an attacking midfielder. Derek Rae's description of a "tenacious midfielder" suggest he'll give us badly needed energy.

Obviously, hasn't played much over the past two seasons, but if it's true Ajax, Besiktas, Panathinaikos and AEK Athens were all tracking him then he might not be too bad.

These highlights are a bit old, but good to see a potential strutting his stuff at a full Allianz Arena rather than trying to judge him off some U21 highlights in front of two men and a dog.

Prob get grief for this, but a little like cammy devlin??

good age and experience. Sounds like Stanway didn’t impress the other night, plus we have Kjarten as the young guy growing in this position, this guy and afeez are both a good age with careers to get back on track. Both have performed at a good level. seem to have good backgrounds. As I’ve said before, I find these more appealing a more ambitious than the 25-30 yr old signing from league 1 (the English one!)

Apologies, I was under the impression that he was just a six month loan, but if there's an option to buy then it's decent. A long term strong midfielder is a good option. A loan deal for a guy that would just take Shinnie's place for a few months wouldn't be (just like Cameron isn't).

Having said that, I would probably have prioritised a centre back and a winger over another midfielder in this particular window, but if we can get a good player early, then that's fine. Certainly the loans of Morrison and Cameron are both more of an issue than this lad. It looks like Shinnie, Armstrong and Clarkson will all be surplus to requirements for the remainder of the season.

Agree, random rumors for deli alli for example are pointless, not needed, I think Geiger is a good loan and more steel to a powder puff midfield, but we have to have another central defender and winger. We need two in, essential to tool us for the rest of the season. Oh, and a manager.

Saw ibane bowat mentioned again yesterday, but I really think a good solid experienced pro at the back is needed. Shame tobers just hasn’t gotten the luck, no clue if he’s any good.

Derek Rae is being very positive about this guy so that’s no bad thing.

But basically we’ve signed yet another midfielder - & one who’s not played for 9 months, hmmm.

If he was highly critical of Hoffenheim’s signings, he’ll fucking self combust here.

Midfield was a disaster yesterday, but then everything was. Need another CH more than this like after Knoester went down, but frankly, a whole new starting 11 widna hurt based on that shite.Players with balls and a bit of steel are badly needed all over the park though so if he brings that, he’ll do me, plus option to buy which is much better than the likes of Cameron.

Welcome aboard loon…

Regardless of cm places available it does sound like this guy is better than anyone we currently have to play the position.  Let's see how he does I guess.  Really hoping we see Aouchiche and Palaversa moved on in what's left of the window as they are clearly out of the frame and will be on a sizeable wage.
