Radiored Posted Sunday at 01:44 Report Posted Sunday at 01:44 (edited) Physicality, physique an' bravery are nae doubt easier attributes tae achieve than speed an' skills. Ah cast ma mind back tae the mid tae late 70s, hangin' aboot Pittodrie vicitity wi a couple o' fellow dandy schoolchums. Saw this gleckit lookin skinny radge toddlin' aboot wi' a few ither guys we recognised as Dons first teamers. "Fa the fuck's the ginger heidit wimp?" Ah commented. "Some boy ca'd McLeish" replied one o' said chums .... "He's jist signed for us" "Ony good?" ... Ah asked. ... "Fuck knows" was the response .... Edited Sunday at 01:45 by Radiored Quote

tlg1903 Posted Sunday at 11:59 Report Posted Sunday at 11:59 He has a year and a half left with the option of an extra year. I suspect on current form he's already out of our price range and will probably go down south in January. Quote

Tom English said he knew that we were looking at a box to box midfielder, a central defender and a striker. Hardly things that any of us wouldn't have come up with, but he was suggesting we should be looking at Masawanhise from Motherwell. Ever fearful of the last striker we got from them, what are folks thoughts on this one Wonder if we are taking a look at their left back too, can play left back, wing back, and winger. Scored a couple this season and think he’s been decent. Send them cash and frame? Both the left back and masawanhise are still young too so sell on for profit is still a possibility. Quote

Seems quite an athletic lad, decent pace, gets up and down the line quite a bit, kinda what I though gyamfi would be. 1 Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted yesterday at 19:13 Report Posted yesterday at 19:13 An article on the P&J site about players likely to leave in January. Nothing was surprising in it, bar a claim that Alfie Dorrington has been back in full training, but just not getting picked for the squads. So he was in the list of possible departures in January. I just thought the lad was injured. Be a shame to see him go if true. Quote

I like the lad, how comfortable he is, especially initially when the team were more on the front foot, to step out with the ball. But he’s not ours and not a sniff at his level of ever being so. If we’re sticking with the 3 and with Tobers out long term, imagine we’ll bring someone in in January. I’d much rather play our own players than a loanee. like I say nothing against Alfie, just me and the loanee system . And obviously he’s written himself into our history now thanks to the cup. Cheers loon. Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted yesterday at 20:37 Report Posted yesterday at 20:37 I think the loan system is a great option, as long as not improving a Celtic player. I do wonder the logic of taking young lads, with little first team experience, from other clubs and throwing them into our first team, whilst not giving chances to any of our own. Lobban is holding his own in the first team and sure some others probably would too, if given a decent run. Quote
Jute Posted yesterday at 21:32 Report Posted yesterday at 21:32 I think loan system should only ever be when we have the option to buy agreed with the parent club. If that’s not then would rather we gave game time to our own young player than develop a player for someone else. Quote
RicoS321 Posted yesterday at 21:46 Report Posted yesterday at 21:46 Loans are fine if we've got nobody coming through, or we're unsure whether a youngster is quite ready and we need to delay. Clarkson was a weird one in that he took the role of Barron, but I can only assume that Robson knew a rat when he saw one. Dorrington taking the role of Milne last season wasn't a particularly good decision I don't think, even though Milne was injured when he signed. Aouchiche coming in to take the role of Clarkson is weird (even though we have the option to buy). Nisbet was a good loan as we didn't have a striker, and it was clear that Ambrose was worse than horse shite (it didn't look likely we'd get him permanently). I'd say that most of the young loanees we get from down south aren't ready for first team action, so unless there's a chance of getting them permanently, it's not a great move. We end up giving them minutes that we wouldn't offer our own young players even though we know there are limitations. I have my doubts about how good it is for these young lads too. I think Dorrington could be playing every week elsewhere, for example, but I guess he's still getting well paid, which he might as well enjoy while he can. Quote
Don Julio Posted 14 hours ago Report Posted 14 hours ago I see there’s a piece in the P&J about potential January exits, but behind a paywall. Does it stack up? Quote

"Aberdeen and Kusini Yengi are expected to mutually part ways in January, Vicente Besuijen could follow and fellow forward Peter Ambrose could go on loan, while midfielders Sivert Heltne Nilsen and Leighton Clarkson, plus on-loan centre-half Alfie Dorrington, face uncertain futures." From the BBC. Bit late for Ambrose to go on loan, should have happened a year ago. I'd add Palaversa to the list, with Molloy to follow in the summer or now if we get a left sided defender/fullback in. Give Milanovic until summer if we don't get a winger in (although I think with a good preseason he could still make it) Quote

Neither are good enough, but it's clear Vinny has reached peak Vinny. He was never going to be good enough, other than the occasional cameo. Milanovic will probably not be good enough. However, he has got some good physical attributes. He is playing the game in his head at the moment, rushing everything and making awful decisions. Ryan Hedges was similar in his first season. Once he got to grips with the league and did a huge amount of work on his fitness, Hedges was excellent, and there's no reason why Milanovic couldn't get there. I don't think he will, but I wouldn't completely write him off yet. A loan in this country would do him good I think, to get him lots of game time. He really needs another preseason. He should ask Nisbet what he did to work on his fitness mid-season for us last year, because that worked. Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago I think Milanovic may come good too. Think the lad just needs a goal and a run of games to get his confidence up. Not convinced he is a winger though. Quote

Shady kept cutting inside when he first played here, even though we all saw he had pace. Pretty sure someone eventually told him to just take the guy on the outside and hit the line every time. Got to the point where he was very successful and got goals and assists. IF we play milanovic on the left, I dont see why we couldn’t have similar. Same potentially with topi on the right. I’ve seen inverted wingers work, but it isn’t for us, would really like to see them on the other side and told to attack on the outside. Quote
