  1. I think the rocket makes some good points in this thread. Luck - has nothing to do with sport. Two phrases repeated over and over during my recent FA youth module. "Practice makes permanent" and "No such thing as unlucky, there's only poor technique" As MBT states there is a culture of immediate gratification, I see it with the under 9's I coach, set them a drill that's quite technical a good few will give up if they don't "get it" first time. In Bounce, Matthew Syed reckons you can become world class at anything as long as you put in 10000 hours worth of good quality practice. No-one is born with natural ability. In addition a main point of focus in the youth module was warm up's that cover the A B C S (agility balance co-ordination and speed), The thinking behind this is kids nowadays don't go out with their mates of an evening, go into school early and mess about playing tag or bulldog or whatever so they are lacking in the gross motor skills that we may have had at similar ages. Then you add in the win at all costs attitude of some parents and coaches at grass roots level, which further stifles the development of the children. At a tournament in the summer I was having a chat with some of the parents about appropriate language i.e. not using phrases like "get it in the mixer" or "put it in the hole" a coach of another team pipes up with "all my lot understand, get rid of it". This in non-competitive mini-soccer planned so they can try things and make mistakes where we have a retreat to the half way line rule for goal kicks to take the pressure off and stop endless punts forward. I didn't have the heart to point out that, that might be why his team had failed to score a goal in any of the tournaments they had played in.
  2. Possibly it's due to becoming more of an ingrained alchy but I'm finding agreeing with the rocket more agreeable. Either that or someone has hacked his account. I really want to agree with Bobby though. There is no way the rocket is making (however slight) more sense, is there?
  3. The mercans have been backing one side or another and running special forces interference in conflicts throughout the Middle East without "getting involved" since since some slitty eyed midgets blasted the shit out of them from their rice paddys in the 60's. Did the Western media and governments not report 1300 fatalities from the chemical attack, but the aid agencies involved reported less than 300 casualties. As far as the Iranians go, the mercans have been poking them with a big stick for a while as they need a war there to free the Iranian people (of their rights to any money from their Haliburton's* Oil Fields) *or whomever are backing this administration. As for the French, insignificant people are insignificant. Would you go to war alongside an country whose armed forces may go on strike at the merest hint of having to work 40 hours in a week... Fuck me the French Special Forces are called the French Foreign Legion for a reason. Regardless of all this, what kind of idiot would actually start a war with their biggest customers. A WW3 kicking off between the Arab Nations, China and Russia V the West only serves two nations. It'd be like KFC and Burger King goading McDonalds into killing a shit load of fat people from council estates.
  4. I quite like that, if only they could have been arsed to finish it off properly with red three stripes on the shoulders.
  5. No doubt he'll fail miserably now... Honestly can't see why he would though. We got glowing reports from Shots fans who felt he was returning to Reading to challenge when they were in the Premiership. Think he was POTY at Barnet the year before and I think was a standout in our run in last season. Pretty sure that cunt Carlisle targeted him in the playoff semi, breaking his ribs. I don't think there's a Cheltenham who would not have wanted him back this season.
  6. Just seen this. Hector is a top player, thought he would have gone back to Reading in the Chamionship to fight for his place. Composed, strong in the tackle, good awareness and positioning, comfortable with the ball at his feet and not afraid to step forward with it. When he first came in at Cheltenham he made the odd mistake but soon settled down and I'd have struggled to choose between him and Steve Elliot.
  7. Fuck sake why not La SPFLiga ??
  8. "You'll see its a black boy" http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mCXa87zJTC4&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DmCXa87zJTC4
  9. Nothing like a bit of rabble rousing.
  10. But they have Kagawa and Carrick they don't need another pendulum like CM (Kagawa being a mobile version) what they need is a Fletcher and I don't think Fellani nor Fabregas is that player. Then again not certain I can name a world class midfielder who is of a similar mould...
  11. Just looked that up Still, we should have never have invented the cure for small pox otherwise they'd all be deed. Although I suppose the gayness and the aids will get them eventually...
  12. Just been sent an email offering tickets from the FA as I am a FA coach and as such have a FAN Number don't know if I could sit with the Nigel's though.
  13. Fair enough it looks like Leutwiler or whoever is normally on the bench but Ripley made it on more than a handful of occasions. I'd assume before they are loaning rather than releasing they think he has potential.

And presumable further money coming into the local economy will be through championship events being held there? That said building of mounds of earth, the planting of fir trees to block light and view, the intimidation and the running to the police...
  15. Be a bit surprised if a teams Number 2 was allowed to go on loan merely to bench warm for someone else.
  16. Surprised its not the case at youth level, which I would assume U20 is, due to the likely occurance of overuse injuries.
  17. How convenient. I'm sure there were several alternatives that could have been followed which may have resulted in a better appointment for the good of the game in Scotland, but this was the cheapest and easiest route to go. Then again I'm sure there were more than enough grounds for dismissal last year, jobs for the boys eh!
  18. Isn't this what caused the dearth of youth players coming through to the first team from the late 90's till about three years ago.
  19. I'd suggest that someone with a spare £20k lying about, who wants to put themselves through the ingominy of playing for macc. may well have been inclined to offer it previously, without having to embarrass their payers by being a lot fucking better than them.
  20. LOVE that!!
  21. Pretty pleased with this one, was hoping Cheltenham might sign him. 1 in 3 record. Going for a bit of a physical presence alongside McGinn.
  22. Hmmmmm Think there may be a whoosh parrot due? Fat Lumplard never scored 14 goals in one World Cup
  23. How come the tattle munchers were playing Ze Germans at Wembley, then?
  24. I'm with Tom on this. I'd bet that this isn't even the first time this week that a couple of Stone Island wearing black gangstas have stabbed another human being to death in London. BUT.... Because they were allegedly shouting "Allahu Akbar" at the time it seems to have knocked the trial of a man accused of kidnapping, sexual assault, murder and burning the body of a 5 year old girl off the front page. Awful, awful incident especially when you consider the guy killed had a 2 year old son. However the media shitstorm that has been whipped up means that normally rational people can't see the irony in their calls for the death penalty to be reintroduced, given the eye for an eye statements made by one of the perpetrators.
