I'm not sure about Diamond in central midfield, especially now we have Hartley.

Nor I. This time last year we were getting absolutely horsed in Europe by a team nobody had ever heard of before, destroying any confidence the players and fans had for the coming campaign. Yet again our season will be shaped by how good a start we make so the Hamilton game is already a 'must win' as far as I'm concerned, I just hope the players treat it as such. But I'm confident we'll be in better shape come our first competative game this season.

Anyone else think the club may have bent their own rules regarding pay structures etc to get their man? The cynic in me thinks maybe very poor season ticket figures have forced the club's hand here, and I'm very happy about it. Power to the people and all that. Aberdeen have needed a big name signing for a few years now (I don't think I've been this pleased about a new player since Baz Nicholson) and hopefully this will stop the steady decline. Actually starting to look forward to the new season now, and that shows a remarkable turnaround for me. COYR!

I would suggest that's a very optomistic viewpoint. There's obviously a stumbling block with the Hendrie deal, and the quotes in that article about Hartley dont really match the headline. I think there's a very good chance we'll end up with the square root of fuck all. But I'm that kind of guy.

Hartley is the type of character who very much gives his all to the cause, and can only be a good influence on the young squad around him. With his work rate, experience, and ability, he could be the best signing the club have made since Scott Severin in my opinion. To the powers that be, please make this happen, and quickly, before Dundee United or Hibs get any funny ideas. PS Any chance of Hendrie too or is that asking for too much?

It matters because that's what a testimonial is all about. It's a loyalty bonus. And Mackie's been a loyal servant to the club. Are people just arguing about this for the sake of arguing?

I applaud Mark McGhee for this. Getting our players fit will catch our opponents off-guard and surely give us a vital edge in the title race.
