  1. Yep i can see your reservations with this. I've seen a lot of arguments that the likes of Steyn, Schoeman, van der Merwe and Dempsey are keeping Scottish born / developed players out of the national setup. But Scotland has struggled since the dawn of professionalism in the mid-90s. Its been between us and Italy for the wooden spoon, with Italy getting closer and closer to us. The rules have changed, and Scotland has taken full advantage of this and recruited smartly from around the world thru parentage, grand-parentage, and the new residency rule (only 3 players have joined thru the residency rule ... just so happens vdM and Steyn have scored recently, and are now in the spotlight)
  2. Thank fuck! Id rather have Lennon/Lambert than that tool. And I DO NOT EVER WANT Lennon or Lambert. Hughes hates Aberdeen. He hated us when he was at Falkirk, he hated us when he was at Caley, hated us when he was at Jobs, at Ross County ... there's no love lost between both sides, and there's no way he will rescue Motherwell this season
  3. Well, there's the grandparents rule which has existed for years in both football and rugby. But now there is a choice in rugby, dictated by playing in the nation of your choosing for (i think) 5 years. I like this rule as it means the players can put thr yards in and choose to play for the nation that their heart lies with, rather than where they were born which they have no control over. Scotland are getting a bit of a pasting just now over this, particularly from Irish fans more than any ... mainly cos of how destructive Van Der Merwe is. But Jona Lowe and Jamison Gibson-Park both born and bred in NZ and both have international caps for the NZ Maoris. But I fully respect this is both Lowe and JGP's decision and they've both gone through the residency process to qualify for Ireland, which is perfectly within the rules The All Blacks owe massively to the Pacific Isles for their successes over the years too. Huge names such as Joe Rokocoko (Fiji) and even the great Andrew Mehrtens (South Africa) made their mark as All Blacks. Finlay Christie is now an established AB and he was born in Peebles! The new rules are a by-product of a new ruling that allowed players to play for their home country even after they'd been capped by another team. The ABs are masters at "doing an Old Firm" where they grab a player from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and give them a couple of caps thus preventing them from playing for their home nation. The rules changed a few years ago to allow those players to play for their home nation against after a standdown period. So the reverse of this is allowing people born in another nation to play for the country of their choosing. I'm all for it
  4. 60 years old today. And Strachan is 66 today
  5. I seem to remember Gilles Roussett the old Hearts goalie from the 90s used to wear trousers quite often. Pretty sure Gabor Kiraly wore trackie bottoms when he was in goals for Hertha Berlin against us. Jeeeeeeesus, that was 21 years ago
  6. TMOs has ruined rugby. It is used really well in Rugby League, where it is used sparingly and only really to spot if its a try or not. Ontop of that, both teams have one "captains call" where the team captain can ask the ref to review the footage once per game. If the call was right, they get to keep that call for another time. But if they call something and the video ref disagrees then that team doesn't get any more captains calls for the rest of the game. Would love to see that rule brought in to both Rugby Union and football
  7. Aye a cracking match, van det Merwe with arguably the best individual try in the 6N history. And in a World Cup year too, who knows what could happen. Just hope we can show up against the other nations
  8. Someone's looked at the Adidas stock of red tops, stuck two badges on it, seemingly doubled the size of the Texo logo, and released it. Wouldve been heaps better if they dropped the Texo logo, gone with the old AFC badge, and relied on shop sales to raise money. It would've sold a good few. And if we win, I reckon we keep wearing it #jinx
  9. That interview with Bosnich is laughable. Reckons Yorke would surpass Fergie's achievements at Aberdeen Can I have some of what he's on?
  10. There's no way in hell it was ever a red in the first place. Yes it was a yellow cos his elbow struck Dunne in the face (although played at normal speed, its actually Dunne's face that struck McRories elbow), but there was no malice whatsoever. McRories elbows were up to balance himself in expectation of a physical challenge. I honestly thought VAR would sort these corrupt fkn refs out, but they've actually made them even worse
  11. Ufuk Talay? (already I see the tabloids having a rare ol'time with that name). Has done a decent job with a very shoestring budget, and in a league where there are always a couple of giants (Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory) and the rest are considered also-rans ... although most of the rest have enjoyed champions status at some point over the past 20 years thanks to salary caps and rules around the number of foreign players in the squad.
  12. Before McRorie's red, it looked like we had set ourselves up as a 5-2-1-2, and reverted to 4-4(3)-2 after the red. I may suspect BR will stick with that original plan, assuming McRorie can play whilst the appeal is ongoing, and hope this formation actually pans out properly against 'Well. A lot of guys were gassed by 80 minutes on Wednesday, so there might be some changes to the lineup. Gorter needs to start, Duk needs benched, would be interesting to see what Markanday can do in the starting lineup - even if it's for the first hour or so.
  13. And now Gallagher, another journeyman who picked up a decent wage at Pittodrie for doing sweet-fa. Tough night for BR, he only had 4 days to get new guys in and try to turn the mentality of this team around.
  14. Why was he so gash when he played for us? St Mirren players seem to be playing out of pure spite for us. Main having a blinder, and Dunne beign a dick cos we're all celebrating that his mate Stewart is finally offski
  15. BBC had to dig this image out of the archives ....
  16. Oh man. Part1 always has a place in my All Time Top Ten movies. It's the little details that Zemeckis adds in, like the Twin Pines Mall becoming the Lonely Pine Mall after Marty takes a tree out when crashing into 1955. Iconic movies I've never seen? I've never watched The Dark Knight in full, have never seen Seven or any of the Mad Max movies. I saw Inglorious Bastards and The Shining for the first time over the Xmas break
  17. Everyone forgets Polvara. When Ramirez jetted back home, Dante could be seen running on the tarmac with his arms outstretched, shouting "what about me?" On the surface, a significant part of our defence is here on-loan. Under the surface, it's our achilles heel this season and I'm happy to see it completely rebuilt in the summer by whoever gets the job. But Stewart out to MK Dons is cracking news! He's just not good enough for the Scottish Premier - wow, i just caught myself saying that!
  18. Yep, the Daily Ranger is saying Stewart is wanted by MK Dons to help rescue them from relegation - TBH he is League One quality. ScotPrem is arguably above that (probably mid-Championship). But that leaves us short in defence again, we definitely need more defenders - lets see what the final 3 hours of this window brings. Loans ain't an issue either, TBH. If someone can do a job to help rescue our season then that's all we need ... and it also gives the new boss a summer to freshen things up their way without being stuck with a bunch of players signed by a managerless club
  19. Martindale has pretty much ruled himself out. He would've been one that could've steadied the ship whilst not playing attractive stuff. We need results before we even bother about looking fancy. Wonder if Craig Brown fancies doing another settling job for a few months ... although at 82 years old this job could kill him
  20. Whoever comes in needs to play the players where they naturally belong. Stewart belongs on the training field. Get a 442 or 433 going. Mcrorie, shinnie, ramadani and either Hayes or Kennedy in the middle. Duk and miovski upfront, with Vinny subbing for one of them. Who in defence though? Scales is good when he isn't also carrying Stewart. We urgently need a new CB and a new RB at the very minimum. Can we get them in before 1st Feb? Doubt it
  21. My first post here in a LOOOONG time (Hi peeps)! We cannot go for a novice like Fletcher or Brown. We need an experienced manager who knows how to deal with players who are stuck in a rut. Lambert and Coyle are battler-managers. They won't get us playing attractive football, but they may just stop the rot. Bakke is an interesting name thats popped up, as is Martindale I'm just pissed we took this long to take action. The caretaker only has 3 days to sort that defence out before the window closes, and it urgently needs fixed. Plonking McRorie and Hayes in defence is not the answer, they are needed and more effective further up the field
  22. vipbox.tv got recommended to me by a workmate a few weeks ago. Must admit, there aint much I've not been able to find on it sporting-wise
  23. Did I imagine this, or did Scotland beat England in the final game at the old Wembley Stadium? I'm sure I remember Billy Dodds scoring. But it appears to have been completely wiped from the record-books (okay, I can't find it on Google!)
