  1. This is the video I was on about. They sung plenty of "traditional" songs like stand free and "aberdeen, aberdeen", but tried to introduce more. As above they'd sound better with more fans joining in but that wasn't really their fault.
  2. Sorry, but that's just nonsense. Yes they sang different songs, but that's how you introduce new songs. The "we're better fans" thing, that may apply to a few individual members - I do remember complaints of teenagers telling others to "fucking sing" -but I don't think it described them all collectively. The waving flags thing during games was annoying, though that was before they had their own section. It was one of many reasons it put fans off joining them though. Back on the foreign chants. I watched a video of them in section Y during a Rangers game. The chants don't work when there's a small group of you. However I imagine if there's 4,000 of you chanting then it's a different story. From memory they were singing the Will Grigg tune years before it became popular. To go back to the start of the thread, I think they should come back and give it another go. But they'd need to accept that they'll have to do it from RDU, or forget the flags and infiltrate the south stand where most folk are standing and singing anyway and where the "new" chants might catch on.
  3. The Red Ultras were treated badly by the club. But, they needed a thicker skin. The Green Brigade do not have a perfect relationship with Celtic (they walked out of the Lyon friendly at the weekend to protest at being denied access to their flags or something) but they didn't just give up and disband, they kept going, protested when they needed to, and made sure they weren't ignored. Aberdeen wanted rid of the Ultras and they got what they wanted because they said enough was enough and left. The club won. You've got Mezz vowing not to go back as if the club are going to beg him and the Ultras to reform. If I was him I'd be currently plotting how to come back bigger and better than ever before, to the point where they can't be ignored and they do have a voice because like you say the DST or anyone else aren't going to fight their battle for them. As for the SLO, the jury is out on her, but the appointment should have been someone out with the club.
  4. I think there's often a misconception that Aberdonians wouldn't accept an ultra group. I don't think that's the case, I think it was more they found it hard to accept that ultras group. They liked the flag displays but not much else. You look at Hibs for example. There is a perfect example of a successful, Scottish ultra group. The Hibs fans are all on board with what they're doing. A Hearts supporting mate admitted he was secretly jealous that at both Edinburgh denies last season they were completely outsung by Hibs. That's the difference between a support with an enthusiastic group adding new songs and getting everyone going, and one without. People talk about "in my day we didn't need a singing section, we went to the pub, mates stood together at the game, etc." Problem is, these fans are older now, and either go less, go with their kids, or maybe just can't be arsed singing anymore. Therefore it's the younger fans you look to. The guys behind the flag display at the cup final, they're older and I think that's their motivation, I don't think they've much appetite for a singing section. For me the solution is the club change their attitude, get the guys behind the section together, say "look, Merkland hasn't worked, the south stand and RDL are too heavily populated, the RDU is near enough empty though - lets work together and try some ideas." I always believed the Ultras should never have left the RDU and that they would lose numbers by moving to Section Y and the corner of the Merkland. I get the "it's miles from the pitch" but people act like it's impossible to hear anything. The Milan Ultras seem to do alright away up in the top tiers of the San Siro. If the new Aberdeen SLO and the guys behind the section haven't already met up then that's very poor.
  5. No need to turn another thread into a discussion about Kingsford, but the club have already explained that to include safe standing in the plans now would mean applying for a licence to do so, and there's no point in doing that since for now the application is for permission to build. Safe standing will be introduced. There's not a single reason why the club wouldn't and its one of the things they've been keen to say they will be doing.
  6. I do wonder what would have happened had they just moved the family section to the RDL and let everyone else buy for the Merkland, and what that stand would have been like. The "compromise", handing over one section to one specific, and numerically an unpopular, group, and sticking a big tarpaulin flag between them and the rest of the stand, was always doomed to failure and I think the club knew this but actually wanted to kill off the singing section idea. They did the same at the cup final too. I suppose a singing section will naturally progress in the new stadium when they have a standing section. Hopefully it's not just a small corner and is actually a whole stand.
  7. What is the story with the Red Ultras? Are they gone for good? Are there any members on here? Were the first "ultra" group in Scotland, yet everyone took over them. Even Motherwell and St Johnstone seem to have better groups than the singing section that gathered on the Merkland last season. I think it's a shame, I don't want to be one of the ones mocking them, I think a proper group improving the atmosphere at games would be great. You can't help but applaud a lot of what the Green Brigade have done for the atmosphere at Celtic Park. Would love to see a proper group, whether that's the Red Ultras or a new one, get going, but the singing section in the Merkland last season was really poor. But everything seems to have been done half heartedly the last few years. It's all been about flag displays and banners rather than actually growing the group and getting new songs introduced and actually making a difference with the atmosphere.
  8. Don't worry, season ticket sales will go up when Kingsford gets built.
  9. Hearts want a minimum million quid for him. Too much of a risk for a club our size to take on a player. Partick Thistle have accepted a 350k offer for Liam Lindsay from Oxford. At that price we should be looking to get involved. But, difficult when you're essentially between managers.
  10. Likely a year too soon as would presume he would want to stay on and lead Northern Ireland to the World Cup, but Michael O'Neill would be my choice. Don't know enough about Alex Neil, never really followed his progress at Norwich but thought he was fortunate with the standard of player he had at Hamilton. Jack Ross could be worth a shout.
  11. What utter tosh. Three cup finals in three years. You're one of these ones who wanted McInnes sacked a year ago and refuse to believe he has proved you wrong. Which he has by the way. You were wrong then and you're wrong now.
  12. Possibly (the Telfer mix-up). Allan was the best player in the championship at a time when Hearts and Rangers were both in it, and tore Rangers to shreds quite a few times. Deila though liked signing young Scottish players and doing fuck all with them. Allan, Armstrong and Christie three examples of players who went downhill after moving to Celtic. Rodgers has improved Armstrong, Christie's loan deal to Aberdeen has benefitted him, unfortunately for Allan his didn't work out. But 100% I'd take him here.
  13. Surely you know better than to judge him on a loan spell in England? Was a cracking player for Hibs, made the wrong move, a fresh start elsewhere to the right club and there's still a very good player there. Rooney, McGinn, Logan, Lewis, Reynolds - there's just a few players who've signed after less than impressive spells in England.
  14. Has a year left on his contract, but if we did sell Hayes for a fair old sum and used some of it to get Walker that would be a great move. However, I think wages would be the big issue. He probably wants a lot more than he was on at Tynecastle. As part of any Hayes deal, I'd love to see us get Scott Allan. Was a cracking player at Hibs who made the wrong move going to Celtic. Would rather see him than GMS.
  15. Am I right in saying Hayes is suspended? So missing him, Jack and Pawlett. But, Christie available again. I'd love Taylor and Reynolds to be dropped but with O'Connor/Shinnie needed in midfield and Considine at LB we're left with no choice but to play them. Christie to start. Maybe on left? Or does McLean go deep, Christie play off the striker and Shinnie go left? Would start Rooney over Stockley. Would rather have the striker more capable of hitting the net. Lewis Logan Taylor Reynolds Considine O'Connor Shinnie McGinn McLean Christie Rooney
  16. I watched it with a Celtic fan, and at 3-0 he was laughing his head off and saying "this will just be like Tynecastle and Ibrox, we'll go on and hit five here". The fact that from that point on we were the better team gives us some credit. It's easy to say Celtic had the game won and took their foot off the gas, but Celtic have been relentless this season and, the Celtic fan again, admitted we'd caused them more problems than he'd seen any team do for a while. Celtic were timewasting with 20 minutes to go and a two-goal lead. They were trying to take the sting out of the game because we were giving them an uncomfortable night. Despite losing it gives me some hope for the final. Play like that and we'll give them a game, but what worries me is Taylor and Reynolds - they are not good enough. Unfortunately at least one of them has to play in the final.
  17. Having a singing section wouldn't do any harm. We can say as much as we like "it's a cup final, shouldn't need a singing section" yet everyine acknowledges the same problems - groups of mates not sitting together, families wanting to sit down, not enough songs. I find it odd that Aberdeen are so committed to a family section at Pittodrie, yet haven't allocated a few sections for families this time. SLO - the club do have one, Ally Prokter. He hasn't been very visible and hopefully the new one is a lot more involved.
  18. Fund set up for a pre-match display. https://www.gofundme.com/redarmydisplay
  19. A lot of our players would improve there like Armstrong has. Playing in a free flowing attacking side, the likes of Hayes, Logan and Shinnie I think would flourish in that team, and Jack would improve having Brown next to him.
  20. At the second goal they were launching seats - I actually saw two of them land in on their own fans in the wheelchair section.
  21. It's still in the updated local development plan (as of January 2017) as being earmarked for the stadium, which suggests the council would be open to it there.
  22. These threads? What, you mean football ones about the team? You say they lack any leaders, yet you then pick out a suitable leader who is in the team!! But we did turn up and did play well. We've lost due to a mad five minute spell. That doesn't take away from the 80 minutes or so when we were the better team.
  23. My experience of AECC is always that traffic is a nightmare, and that is when the attendance is around 4,000. A crowd of five times that would be horrendous. Granted, there would be more parking spaces than Kingsford but by road it wouldn't be better, even with the bypass. Loirston has, or will have, three exits leading onto motorways (A90 south, A90 towards river dee, bypass) as well as Wellington Road and the possibility of a train station. Parking not great and that would remain a big issue, but it's the best option in the city currently.
  24. No, I'm against it for three reasons. It's too far away from the city for one. I would forget that if the public transport was better or number of parking spaces higher, but neither of them are so that's reasons two and three. I preferred Loirston for what it's worth, but I don't really blame the club for ditching that idea, I blame the council for mucking them about over the training facilities. However, your posts are blatant trolling. People are giving you the courtesy of adult replies, the least you can do is respond in kind.
