Can't remember if there was a specific film thread so here goes.

Anyone been/going to the cinema to see anything in particular?

I've been to see Inception and Toy Story 3 recently. Both were fantastic. Saw Toy Story in 3D but I'm not overly sure that it was necessary, but that doesn't detract from the fact that it was a great film. Fitting way to end the trilogy

Sadly this future started quite a while ago. I miss the days of watching things on set days, then chatting about them at work, and looking forward to 'next week'. What an old man thing to say.

  • No one watch films anymore 🤔 Ten months and no posts 😲 Watched "I Swear" last night. A true story of tourettes sufferer John Davidson from Galashiels. Starting with him going to seconda

Manchester by the sea. Bit slow but thought it was alright. Not sure I understand why it's been as lauded as it has been but decent enough.

Going In Style. Thoroughly enjoyed it and one of my favourite movies of the year so far.

I saw The Handmaiden last night - dark, graphic, erotic, funny and very good

Just watched 'the infiltrator'.

Really good crime drama about the man who helped bring down a money laundering network involving Pablo Escobar.

Big al ..I think you'll like it.

Was at a loose end at work recently so watched Mr.Nice, the story of Howard Marks. Was pretty good. Excellent part played by Rhys Iffans.

Having read the book (absolutely excellent read btw) i've been meaning to watch that for ages.

Watch Kajaki yesterday, which was about a group of British soldiers who got stuck in a mindful near Kajaki dam. Enjoyed it, was produced by a company that works in the same building as me.  It's on iPlayer at the moment, as is Nightcrawler which is also excellent.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - shite

Alien Covenant - shite

King Arthur - Good

51st State, still a great film when having a few beers with your mates.

"Take care of him" " I meant take care of him not take care of him " lol

Gifted - Cracking little film, brought a tear to my eye.

Only just seen T2.... watched it twice but still haven't made up my mind.  "Choose life, verrrrronica"

Watched Logan a while back - Excellent

Kong Island - Shite

Yeah mondo i liked gifted.

Cool wee film.

Turned Logan off after 30 mins. Was bored .

Kong nowhere near as good as first.

Watching T2 tonight even though youve put me off now ha

T2 is ace. Better than the first one.

The new Pirate of the Caribbean film is pretty weak although Depp is entertaining enough.

Thanks Tyrant.

Lookin forward to to it now

I saw Heal the Living last night, beautiful french film about organ donation, well worth seeing

I was a bit meh about T2 tbh

T2 was sooooooo disappointing.

The first one absolutely kicks erse with it.

Watched the Hatton Garden Job tonight, enjoyed it.  Nice, light hearted and I still maintain i'm gutted they didn't get away with it.  Funny seeing the area I work in being central to a film as well as some of the areas I used to live in.

Slowly making up my mind on T2.  Watched it 3 times since my original post and definitely growing in to it.  A few things bother me though:

There is way too much reminiscing to the original.  It was a classic and it was a long time ago but it's well over done.  Is it a new film or a sequel/anniversary/best of all rolled in to one?

I find the relentless nods to hibs a bit sickening (yes, we get it after the first one but come on huh?)

Which leads me to my main point.  With all the hibs stuff (flags and strips everywhere, graffiti on walls etc) I presumed that the scene after renton and sickboy have looted the lodge where they are having a coke fuelled table football binge and then end up sliding on their knees celebrating was filmed at Easter Road.

I read that it is actually filmed at Tynecastle which I thought would be a big no no, no matter what filming constraints were in place.

Now just watching the film again I can't make up my mind which stadium it is.  It looks like Easter Road to me but then, when the shot pans right out, the flood light pylons and overhead, white gantrys make me think it is Tynecastle.

Can anyone confirm?

Kiwi film called Pork Pie.  Nice enough film with some very funny moments.  It's a remake and according to kiwi reviews is a rarity, as it's actually better than the original.

Sad consequence of it though, one of the lead actors got done for drink driving not long after filming it.

3 guys in a yellow mini by any chance?

Be interested to see how they deal with sneaking off the North Island given the 'Boat train' stopped a long while ago

Ha ha yep, thats the one.  Oddly enough, they used the "boat train"...although it was cargo, not passenger.

I saw a lovely wee film tonight - My Life as a Courgette

Also 4 fab ones last week at Edinburgh's fantastic international film festival - for you guys who like your 90s music check out a romcom called Modern Life is Rubbish when it's on general release

I've been meaning to watch that for a while, worth a watch then?

Absolutely Manc, one of the most endearing, charming films I've seen

Saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yesterday. Really enjoyed it. Some very powerful scenes. Rooney Mara is amazing.

Watching some old classics recently....

Harvey (1950) Great film and Jimmy Stewart is fantastic as Elwood P Dowd.

Gaslight (1940) Atmospheric psychological "thriller". Very, very good.

Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) Just a great film, I like Cary Grant and he is marvelous in this.

The African Queen (1951) a great film, superb acting from Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn.

I would recommend these to anyone that likes their cinema with great writing and no CG!
