Kilmarnock v Aberdeen (League Cup)

Robbo's Rollicking Rock n' Roll Roadshow gets underway with the first of a run of away games. The action begins on Saturday 12th September at Rugby Park as the Dons take on Kilmarnock in the quarter final of the League Cup. It's probably on telly because it kicks off at 1745.

Buoyed by a clean sheet and a shot on target against the same opposition today, the team will be bang up for it, and I fancy a 1-0 win after extra time for the away side. Olusanya to score.

Robinson looked pleased with Mouloua's penalty. His reaction was as funny as the audacity of the penalty.

  • At least I can use the quote function....

  • That's actually one thing I didn't do mate. My proposed protest against Robinson at the team bus has been postponed for just now. Suspect it won't be for too long as let's not allow this unexpected vi

We couldn't beat Killie at home so I don't see how we beat them away from home. Unless we get a new manager by then.

Maybe our new 11 can adapt to that plastic pitch fake ground better than their new 11?

Unfortunately there's a slight problem with that theory.

Think it’s a lot to do with what Killie do. They’ll likely play a different game at home and having seen how ineffective we are they might think to have a go. Could be a very different game than at Pittodrie and that might work better for us (also, it might not 😕).

Have a feeling SR will put his cup football pants on and get us through the tie, just. @Jute get those straw clutching GIFs at the ready 😜

out on penalties

If we do make it through we’ll likely get Celtic in the semi just for additional punishment.

The cheeks tend to get the easiest teams left in the draw...😞

Oh they got rid of in the summer, did they? So: there is the small chance that something resembling a game o fitba might break out. Exciting...

Can I suggest that you reread the names of the teams mentioned in the title of this thread

I think we will win on Saturday, but only on the basis of we can't be as bad as we were last Saturday. We just can't.

Last Saturdays performance still makes me angry as fuck and I can normally leave any ill feeling, towards the team/manager, at the ground.

Where do you leave it? I’m in the market for a decent spot.

Who knows what Robinson has planned for Saturday, but with Knoester fit I can see a return to 5-3-2 (which we've played in three out of four halves in the past two games).

I'd play Milne as, despite his defensive deficiencies, he can at least step into midfield and is comfortable with the ball at his feet, something he did well at times under Thelin. Means Knoester can play on the left where he's more comfortable, and it should allow Ronan to push a little higher up the park.

System doesn't suit Nisbet, but he's our top scorer.

We def got out boxed with just the 2 in midfield in first half at Pittodrie. Does leaving Aremu out mean we lack some grit in there? I think we might need to drop Nisbet for a bit and give Mouloua a shot as main striker alongside one of the ‘versatile’ guys. Maybe bring Nisbet in later to impact games.

Nisbet and Armstrong both doubts for tomorrow.

I’d go with a 3-5-2 and would stick with that unless the new winger shows he’s capable. I’d rather happier played over Milne with knoester in the middle. Midfield three of Ronan aremu and Marshall with Mouloua and nisbet/okusanya.

2-1 us, Mouloua and nisbet/olusanya, depending if nisbet is fit to play

Just cannot get myself interested in this as I know we get beat by first decent side we play even if we get through. Lack of creativity is really concerning but not surprising given who our manager is. As others have said expect us to go 5-3-2 again but who plays is anyone’s guess. Kilmarnock have struggled at home on this season without their carpet so hopefully we can take advantage of that. Replacement buses for train is enough of an excuse for me to stay home and watch on TV.

Is Bradlyinho not back for this one?

Is it true we’ve sold 2,400 tickets? Our support are mental (brilliant but mental)

You're suggesting dropping Smith and starting Olusanya?

Even Stephen Robinson wouldn't... well actually, suppose he might.

Pains me to say it but I am. If we go 3-5-2 which we will I’d have smith on the bench. If we’re good enough to go 4-2-3-1, I’d play Ronan alongside aremu with smith at 10.

Pains me to say it but I think olusanya will cause killie problems, win us a penalty, a red card etc. Due a goal too!

You'll need to explain your reasoning for that.

He caused them zero problems when he played 45 minutes last week.

3-5-2

We don’t have quality width so why force olusanya to play wide who isn’t a right mid and is less effective there, and yogane on the left who has contributed so little. We also played poorly last week so the extra man in center mid, and the extra man in a back three, especially away, will help us. I also think cadden and G-W have shown more in recent games they will push up and attack more so give us some width there.

If we go three in center mid I think he goes with Ronan aremu and Armstrong, maybe even Marshall if armstrong is not fit. Think these guys offer a little more midfield graft and physicality than the attack minded smith.

I think olusanya will be more effective up top than out right….yes he’s not great but has been involved in goals. If nisbet is a fitness doubt I totally see olusanya and Mouloua start up top, that’s a mobile hard working two which isn’t a bad thing, especially when they’ll need more wider runs with no right/left mid, something a less mobile nisbet doesn’t do so much.

We went 3-5-2 in recent years when our width was crap, and we’ve seen it again of late. Think we see it tomorrow.

As for olusanya, none of us really rate him but Robinson is definitely asking for more effort than last week. Olusanya is an effort player and killie aren’t great at the back. Think this is an olusanya game. Actually think it’s a game suited to Olusanya and Mouloua up top.

Your 3-5-2 is basically the same as the 5-3-2 I said, it's essentially the same formation.

I wouldn't have Olusanya anywhere near the starting line-up until he can prove he's good enough to be more than a last throw of the dice option. You just having a feeling he might win a penalty doesn't convince me.

Don't think we need a midfield set up for "graft and physicality" against a side who don't play that way. We need to get at them and Smith is the type of player who can make a difference. Aremu isn't.

Aremu stank out Pittodrie last week. His use of the ball was awful.

We should never have been in a position where Olusanya should ever be considered good for a game/goal. That is the one permanent signing that should have got the alarm bells ringing.

I still think we will get a win today, but only because we can't play as badly as we did last week.

If we do play as badly as last Saturday, Robinson simply must go.

He won't though.

I suspect the cup will keep him in a role for a while longer.

He (Robinson) also still stays down that way.

He would make a good Killie manager.

🤞🤞
