Kilmarnock v Aberdeen (League Cup)

Robbo's Rollicking Rock n' Roll Roadshow gets underway with the first of a run of away games. The action begins on Saturday 12th September at Rugby Park as the Dons take on Kilmarnock in the quarter final of the League Cup. It's probably on telly because it kicks off at 1745.

Buoyed by a clean sheet and a shot on target against the same opposition today, the team will be bang up for it, and I fancy a 1-0 win after extra time for the away side. Olusanya to score.

Robinson looked pleased with Mouloua's penalty. His reaction was as funny as the audacity of the penalty.

  • At least I can use the quote function....

  • That's actually one thing I didn't do mate. My proposed protest against Robinson at the team bus has been postponed for just now. Suspect it won't be for too long as let's not allow this unexpected vi

You had me till the final sentence.

Has 0-0 after ET written all over it.

Anyone think we’re getting anything out of this upcoming run of away games since “travel” is clearly a massive issue for our delicate wee petals?

Me neither.

Thoughts & prayers with any fans embarking on this arduous & ridiculously demanding travel schedule - its just not fair…

With our away form? Not a chance.

Reminder for any central belt fans there are no trains from Central to Kilmarnock next Saturday.

Maybe a good thing.

I don't know if we have it in us to win this game, but by fuck we need a performance.

There is NO excuse for another insipid showing. We have a week to prepare, Lyons apart no real injuries, and we're going to a venue where Dundee United won 4-0 last week.

I haven't quite joined the ever growing Robinson out bandwagon, but if we don't at least show some evidence our manager knows how to fix this, then I suspect the numbers will grow by Saturday evening, and it could get very toxic.

Recall saying in Jan, if Robinson is the answer, we’ve asked the wrong question. I’m standing by this. Wrong guy, wrong time, wrong recruitment and wrong ambition. There is very little that the club have gotten right over the last 16 months (I’m being kind). As such, I am not confident that we’ve got the foggiest idea about how to score a goal let alone win away from home.

Hear where you are coming from but habitually we don't keep clean sheets at Rugby Park.

Might be wrong in saying it was the last time we played them there in the League Cup but I still have nightmares about a certain game in that competition many years ago.

All I need to say is Berti Bossu and most of you should remember it.

In

Pub (possibly Howard Arms)

Away End

Protesting against Robinson beside team bus.

3-0 Killie

Thanks Al I was just starting to get myself back to a normal mental state and you have to go and bring 'THAT' performance up. Oh the horrors!

That was the biggest hiding I’ve ever seen Aberdeen take. The scoreline didn’t do it justice.

Bossu looked like Hen Broon between the sticks that night. If I remember correctly, Killie looked like scoring every time they came forward and JC still didnt take him off despite him costing us the game. He was getting booed and the guy I was with almost invaded the pitch to assault him.

Absolute torture

There has been so, so many horror shows by us over the past 30+ years.

You forget about some and then you read a football forum and it all comes flooding back...Thanks!

We once had a manager, with such high standards, he berated nearly an entire team, that had just won a Scottish Cup, mere days after winning a Euro Cup.

Now we have a manager who talks about draining trips to Glasgow.

😭

This will be some laugh. Fortunately, I have a prior engagement so will miss most of the game.

Hiding behind the couch is not a prior engagement.

So I am told.

JC was going through a phase of playing back up keeper in League Cup as he also played him away to Ayr Utd in the previous round and from memory kept a clean sheet.

It was a mental first forty five that night at Rugby Park with all six goals in the game coming during that period.

Am I imagining it, or did Bossu not get subbed on in a game against the original huns not long after that and keep a clean sheet 🤔

0-0 draw against the hun, after Langfield went off injured. Kenny Miller booted him in the head. An accident of course.

His last appearance for the Dons, freed that summer, with a year left on his contract.

Bossu - Kept goal when the mighty Peterhead, hit four against us, in a pre season friendly, that season. Alarm bells were ringing then, as he looked as though he had won a competition to be goalkeeper for the night.

Supposedly signed on the recommendation of Jim Leighton.

I think that was more a case of Calderwood throwing Leighton under the bus.

Interesting thread here, pretty damning actually, on why we are so rubbish

The thing is, even without the stats it's very clear, christ knows what Robinson is seeing.

However, despite all the stats, there isn't a huge amount between being a team that is shite and one that can put a run together. We're one or two away from having a serviceable side. Until then, I think he can work a lot on the pressing side. It's very disjointed. Perhaps from the constant changing of the front 2/3. A working press would see a lot of the statistics change in Robinson's favour. If he ever works out his best midfield then this should make it easier. I don't think he's a great coach to be honest.

Not sure on this, as bear in mind its a lot of travelling involved for this one!

I could be listed on the subs bench as a trialist.

Just ten minutes or so in the car for me to Rugby Park

I think Robinson is seeing exactly what we are and is really just looking to protect his players at this moment in time. Which is fair enough, prefer laughable post match deflecty comments than chucking players under the bus.

Agree re the press and also agree the changes in the front line formation don't help. That there has been huge turnover of the squad and the fixture list hasn't been kind to compound the team of strangers problem is a fair retort to that stat list. The big problem Robinson has is that even if he's 100% right and everything will come good in time he doesn't have that time.

This weekend is must win and it will get all kinds of toxic if we don't. That said a win and a good performance (stop laughing at the back) could be a huge shot in the arm and Killie are a bit shit too so there is some hope. Thing is if we were to go out with the very tough trips to Motherwell and Hibs following so quickly after it's not implausible he goes into the international window either a manager under huge pressure or sacked. I don't think he would get sacked personally, I think burrows relationship with him would buy him a bit more time but colgate has been ruthless in the past.

Fucking huge week for Robinson regardless though.

We couldn't beat Killie at home so I don't see how we beat them away from home. Unless we get a new manager by then.
