  1. I'm increasingly not buying that argument. Just think about it for a minute, think about what gets your appetite going for a Dons game ? You are very similar to me in the amount of games you attend and the levels of enjoyment you get from the games. Be honest with yourself about which games you are likely to select to attend. For me its always going to be an away day in Edinburgh or Dundee followed by a possible trip to Pittodrie but there is no way I'm going there for anything other than a top 6 side. You can pile as much 'variety' into the mix as you like but I'm just not convinced that it's what fans actually want. Sure, the odd trip to a new away ground might be a thrill every now and then but the cup takes care of that. The novelty would soon wear off and it certainly doesn't help the coffers as nobody is going to be salivating at the thought of Morton at Pittodrie. I think fans need to really think about what they want to watch week to week. There is a difference between competitive football and variety. As I have said before, I've not been a fan of the 10 team idea but I see the commercial benefit over an expanded league. I have always held the romantic view that an expanded league would deliver a better, more interesting league but increasingly I'm moving to the idea that it would simply be shit until they address the issue of financial parity.
  2. I hear that Network Rail have it in for Timothy. They are consistently taking decisions against them and make life extra hard for their 6.4bn weekly travelling fans.
  3. Are you seriously suggesting that you will stop attending games simply because of the number of teams in the league. Surely this means more games against competitive sides like Rangers, Celtic, Hearts, Hibs etc and more potential derby matches against the likes of UTD, St J and ICT. Add to that the possibility of a couple of tinktown clubs like Hamilton and Helen sodding the fuck off to a more appropriate league and you have a far better mix of games worth watching do you not. Seems a crazy time to stop going to me. I'm not sure how much correlation there is between these concepts of 'playing the same team too many times' and falling attendances (if that is the issue people feel they don't want to attend as a result of). What we really need are competitive games and I'm sure these are more likely to be delivered by more games against the filth and Edinburgh filth. Than those against Raith, Dunfermline and Falkirk.
  4. Good sign I guess. You getting the 10:50 to Mount Florida from Central ?
  5. Is that not going to be heaving with Timothy ? I'm heading through with Nicol and co around 9-10am. Not sure where we are heading yet but will possibly head for COTH to piggy back the Glasgow crowds booking.
  6. Back of the net BB, 100%. We are all able to see that Maguire has been fairly up and down over the last few seasons after some major early career hype. Its not unusual for a young player to suffer that, particularly if he has an ego. McGhee will not have been good for him and sending him to Killie was a solid kick in the nuts that will have been hard to take but may have actually done him some good. 6 months ago I doubt many would have been bothered if he left but now Brown has come in and Maguire is performing, the game has changed. That might be superb man management skills, its more likely to be contract pending performance but it shows what we have in the player if we can harness it and that means he is worth trying to hold onto. It takes intelligence, humility and understanding to be able to change your views when the situation changes. I'm sure it's not too challenging to surmise where these two posters are struggling with that.
  7. Jesus, I would hope so. The train boozing is the best part of the day. In saying that if I have to get to the Church early then train boozing may have to be minimised. Where are you guys drinking Jute ?
  8. I'd prefer you avoid using my reasoning to support your childlike, angst-ridden views. There is a world of difference between the general view on here about Maguire and the attention seeking pulp that populates posts by yourself and Stoney on the subject. Just do us all a favour and tie a knot in it for a bit.
  9. Not the first time a double cup has been seen on the front of your t-shirt mini
  10. Can't help feeling that Maguire's ego will have him talked into pretty much any move that looks bigger than Aberdeen.
  11. Never took you pair as fate peddlers. Do you honestly think that if someone types a comment that makes an assumption that we will win a game that it will somehow affect the outcome of that game ? Thinkin' the big man is listening and moving the pieces around just to teach poor Gav a lesson are you ?
  12. After posting my comments I did read something that Brown had said recently about liking Paton but as you say, Brown likes to keep all plates spinning.
  13. I have a Helen Mirren sticky on my desktop. I will continue to post similar humour until I get the full acknowledgement I feel I deserve. If I get a plethora of posts telling me how clever, and at the same time funny I am then I might move on to my next moment of genius. Is that not how DT works ?
  14. Hoping to watch a lot of action around Helen Mirren's box tomorrow. With the cold weather it might be a bit bald and mucky in there but there should be plenty mouth watering play to be had. Our strikers have shown more thirst for penetration in that area so if a few of them can get on the end of some hopeful balls then I'm sure they will be bursting her net good and proper. COYR
  15. That's what Miller says but part of that negotiation appears to have been lending him to Kilmarnock. I wouldn't take that as a strong desire to keep me if I was in his position.
  16. Nothing wrong with some shameless promotion PS. Did I mention the Aberdeen branch is on George Street ?
  17. I read it on ABmad yesterday for sure.
  18. There is a perfect solution for all these local transport issues guys; http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/comms/srv.a4d?f_pg=home%2Ehtm&f_Cardinal=1 They even have a sale on just now, great deals to be had, an extra 10% OFF all sale bikes from tomorrow for one week only. Fill yer boots.
  19. Paton and Ifil look like certainties to go given the lack of positive commentary coming from Brown. He has made clear statements about guys like Diamond and Maguire so unless we are not able to hold on to them they will not be punted. Foster is the other question, contract not up but we might take money for him if its offered, however, I can't see the offer coming.
  20. Good stuff, should fill Folly's boots as a minimum. End of season signings all point to some major changes in personnel in the summer. Building for a serious assault on the title for 2011/12. COYR.
  21. Genuis. Stevie Gray even had a better tan than Zero and looked better in slip-on loafers.
  22. Crowd at Ibrox tonight is a disgrace. Entire stand closed and still it looks like the last 10 minutes of a game when they are losing. the fact that the OF base all of their superior stance on the fact that they get full houses every time they play has all but evaporated. Utter joke.
  23. I think people need to get past this idea that it's a mystery that players didn't try under McGhee and now they are working hard for Brown. Surely that's the difference between a good manager and a bad one. Players are not neutral machines who should be able to perform regardless of who is managing them, otherwise why bother having a manager. The fact is they respond to the leadership they are shown and McGhee clearly wasn't providing any. Why make that the players problem ? You can get all upset about some sort of betrayal all you like but the fact is the manager is responsible for getting the best from a player and Brown appears to be succeeding where McGhee failed. It's not Maguires responsibility to deal with that.
  24. Or 'fire bomb' as Gordon Smith described it on the radio. Nothing like a bit of drama.
