Hartley has always been a very classy player. I remember watching him several times for St Johnsotne and he was sticking out regularly - in fact I believe we had a chance to sign him when saints went down but we were being deliberately contrary by signing awful players on a pittance at the time. That he is slow and cumbersome now is unfortunate, but the fact is we would currently have no right to sign a player of his quality if he was still at his peak. His influence is undeniable however, and even in games where his passes are goung astray you know that he will still be making a nuisance of himself, something which can't be said of past midfielders. Add into the equation his leadership qualities and you get a player well worth having.

I agree, a midfield of Folly, Hartley and Fyvie for example could potentially work. Folly looked a very composed player earlier in the season, but the last couple of games I've attended have completely passed him by.

I had indeed, apologies. I disagree however, in that next season I would still be happy to have him around - there are numerous inferior players who need replaced first. That isn't to say that I wouldn't take a fee for him though. He at least is a sellable asset, unlike the majority of the players on our books.

'Shit' he may be, but I am convinced that having him at right-back instead of Ifil et al would have saved us a considerable amount of goals this season. He's a player worth having.

Hmm, does sound a wee bit odd. It is an important point that Langfield's confidence is completely shot at the moment. He has been on very good runs of form in the past, I don't see why he can't again. All this is largely irrelavent though because, as is often the case when folk are deciding which players should be binned next, I have massive doubts over whether this club is capable of attracting a superior alternative.

This, especially, is an issue. He seems needlessly confrontational, I remeber reading about some really crass decisions leading to the alienation of players, including just dropping players and pretending they didn't exist. One story which sticks in my mind is him sacking the entire canteen staff, perhaps not esecially relevant, but if true its an indication of what he's like. Aside from that, he comes across as a grade A tosser. No thanks.
