FORMER Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson is at the centre of a transfer triangle as his Sunderland career looks over.
Defender Anderson missed out on a place in the Scotland squad for tonight's friendly against Northern Ireland at Hampden due to lack of match action for the Black Cats.
Championship clubs Plymouth Argyle and Burnley are ready to battle it out with sleeping giants Leeds United in a bid to land Anderson before the transfer window slams slut (the EE should really check their spelling) on Monday week.
And the 29-year-old is keen to pursue his career in England finally killing off speculation of a dramatic return to Pittodrie on loan.
Anderson’s dream £1million transfer to Roy Keane’s team has turned sour after just 12 months south of the border.
But he’s ready to cut his losses at the Stadium of Light as he looks to revitalise his career following a frustrating year in the Premier League.
Anderson enjoyed a successful loan spell at Paul Sturrock’s Plymouth last season and Luggy is keen to lure him back to Home Park.
However, Sturrock can’t afford to meet the demands of Sunderland as they are looking to claw back the transfer fee they paid Aberdeen.
The Pilgrims boss is only offering a season-long loan-deal but the Aberdonian is keen to remain in the North-east of England as his family have settled well in the area.
Burnley boss Owen Coyle is also interested in Anderson as he looks to shore up his Clarets’ defence which has leaked seven goals in their opening two league fixtures.
Gary McAllister’s Leeds United have also expressed an interest in the defender who could be tempted by a move to Elland Road.
