  1. Some of the chat in the hun thread got me thinking about this. So by hopes I mean what do we all think will represent a successful season for 25/26? Obviously we have the excitement of euro football till at least December to look forward to. Personally I would prefer to go into the conference league as I think we would have a great chance of getting out of the group. Also obviously though the Thursday Sunday fixture list is gruelling and in the past 3 seasons both ourselves and Hearts have struggled domestically as a result. I would personally see remaining competitive in the league (by that I mean staying in the hunt for 3rd) whilst not humiliating ourselves in Europe would represent a successful first half of the season. If we could get out of the group in Europe even more so. It does raise the question of whether or not we should give the league cup our all. Of course we all want to be competitive in the cup comps but with hindsight you could argue getting to the the LC final in Robsons euro season was a distraction we didn't need. Depending on how the fixture list is looking I would probably be at peace fielding weakened sides in LC the first couple of rounds we play in 2bh. The second half of the season is probably a little more straightforward. If we assume that even at best we will likely be out of Europe by the end of February then you have to be looking for a very strong finish to the domestic campaign. An acceptable season for me would be Finish in a European spot, be competitive in Europe and at least one trip to hampden. A good season would be. Finish in a euro spot, get out of the group stage and 2 trips to Hampden (I.E get to a final) A great season would be finish 3rd, get out of the group and 2 trips to Hampden. A best we could hope for season (imo anyway) would be finish 3rd, get out of the group and win the first knockout stage, win a cup. Thoughts?
  2. A lot will depend on how well we recruit. Hearts have been busy already and without Europe and with Mcinnes in charge I can understand why jambos would be optimistic about taking third. I read earlier that 12 players have left the club so it's going to be a very busy window for us. To be competitive in the the league in the first half of the season whilst we are in Europe is the biggest challenge we face next season. Herts have tried twice and ourselves once...... it's not worked out brilliantly for either. That said, I doubt Thelin will do a Robson and only use 15-16 players so, again, we come back to how well we recruit. I would say to stay in the hunt for 3rd whilst being competitive in Europe we will need a 75-80% hit rate. (by that I mean signings that come in a basically hit the ground running) with our transfer business this summer. We need most of it done before the end of pre season as well.
  3. It will be a travesty of he doesn't
  4. That is arguably the best post I've read of yours on this page. Agreed on all counts.
  5. What Duncan does have in his favour is he's pretty solid technically and I think Thelin will like that. He's also not wee either. You could be bang on mate but I've got a feeling it might work out for Ryan yet. I think we can all agree that we want it to at least.
  6. I think Duncan is a cert to stay just from a euro registration pov 2bh.
  7. Apologies if I missed this but let's have a bit of love for Palaversa's hand to the ear when he scored his pen. He clearly can't stand the cunts . Not only that I was well impressed with Ante on Saturday in general. Easily his best performance in red and looked for the first time a player that someone had spent 7 mill on prior.
  8. So easy to play against you didn't have a shot on goal from inside the box? Admirers of the ugly sisters have about the same level of intellect as they do taste.
  9. Record q+a with Scott burns GraniteGrant asked: Will Aberdeen splash the cash and do you think it will be a Scandinavian-centric summer? Jimmy Thelin, the Scottish Cup-winning boss, will 100 per cent be backed. Chairman Dave Cormack has already said that a lot of the European money will go into the summer pot, maybe £4-to-£5 million. Aberdeen have already spent £400,000 on Nicolas Milanovic from Western Sydney Wanderers and fellow Australian Nick Suman will also sign from Cove. The Dons are also working on several targets with a left-back and European-based striker both high on their priority list. They do have an eye on the Scottish market but I do think the majority of the business will come from overseas.
  10. I am still absolutely buzzing after Saturday.
  11. Scott Bain is being released on a free by the tims on request as he wants first team football. Given he came through our academy that he would be worth approaching as he would tick multiple euro registration boxes.
  12. I've grown to really admire Martindale. He sounds like a weegie njaff but his teams play good stuff and I've been impressed by his loyalty to livi. I would be interested to see how he did with a bigger budget 2bh.
  13. What a ping
  14. For all mankind. Don't want to give any spoilers but it's like a Sorkin kinda show but NASA being the focus in an alternative universe going from the 60s space race. 4 series so far with more on the way and it's genuinely one of rhe best things I've ever seen.
  15. Lovely goal. Turning into a decent game this
  16. It was going to be Knoester. Think it was polvara I heard say that in a red TV interview he did during the parade yesterday. Edit I see that question has been answered already. That Polvara interview was decent though, worth a watch.
  17. It's starting to sink in a bit now but I still can't believe it. Fuckin YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS
  18. To each their own but I'm quite the opposite. Can't wait for next season now
  19. Aye there's not much difference between euro and conf league cash wise. You could argue the conference is a better option for a club our size as we are more likely to progress. Hearts should have got out of their group but, unfortunately for them, they are Hearts.
  20. I've been wondering about seeing if we could get Bojan on loan too I must admit. He's not had much of a sniff at Girona since coming back from injury. Did anyone see Mcgrath hug Thelin during the post pen celebrations? His eyes pure lit up when he saw him then he launched himself at him to hug. I thought that was quite interesting given Mcgrath didn't even get a place in the squad and is also leaving. It shows impressive man management if you ask me.
  21. Happy Sunday Champions!!!!!!!!!!!! What a day btw. 35 years I've been waiting to see us lift that bloody cup. 35 sodding years. I know most of you have been as well but for me it's just that bit more poignant than most due to the 90 cup final being the first ever football match I watched all the way through and because I had wanted to. I've often wondered how my life would have looked if we had lost in 1990 as it was such an awful game...... I might not have got so into football. To win it again means an awful lot to me and I will never forget 24/05/25. Huge credit has to go to Thelin. It's good to see him show some flexibilty formation wise but even better to see him do it so effectively. I don't think it's unreasonable to say we looked like we had been playing a back 3 all season and for the vast majority of the game we held celtic at arms length fairly comfortably. All the players stood tall as well. Palaversa played his best game in red if you ask me, Devlin put Kuhn in his back pocket despite playing on the left (and looked just fine on the left in general) and Jack Milne came in and quite frankly strolled through the game. Shinnie was a titan in the midfield. Celebratory specs off though and this is such a massive result. Thelin has regained the credit he had from the support from the great start to the season that had been eroded away. The squad will get a good amount of time off and still get a full pre season in because of the later start in Europe. That is huge imo, I would say with all the likely and confirmed departures we are going to need about 8 players in who can go straight into the team. With our first European game now on the 21st of August instead of the 24th of July (suck it up you jutie cunts) all new signings should be should be far more up to speed by that point. Also, on that note, this is a result that will have raised some eyebrows across europe given the whole year of the underdog schtick and as such we just became a bit more attractive to players we target. Put it this way, if Milanovic was having any internal doubts about moving to the other side of the planet to play for Aberdeen I suspect yesterday probably made them go away. With Cormack promising to back Thelin yesterday and the extra 6 mill we are defo getting next season this has potential to be a really exciting window for us.
  22. The good run at the start of the season has bought him wiggle room with the fans I would suggest.
