Like the cooler, less wanky Summer Olympics. Some top class events like that make for great viewing. Watching the Japs v Swedes in the bird's ice hockey at the minute. Great game. Didn't realise for about 5 minutes when I started watching that it was birds playing; very fast paced and some hard tackling and good skill. I like the winters like. BBC usually does some decent coverage too.

Watched highlights (I think?) of the Womens Ice Hokey gold medal match between the USA of America and Canadia. Went to a shootout which the Yanks won for the first time since 94. Exciting stuff.

I’ve been pretty disappointed with the coverage. Balding, who I think is a very capable presenter, has portrayed ridiculous jingoism throughout the tournament. We are a nation of mild winters, small mountains and limited facilities. The obsession for medals at the Winter Olympics is ridiculous. They should just concentrate on showing some great sport instead. Balding has been a nightmare and has had to be corrected a few times by her guests.

Interestingly I see the USA are sending ICE to Milan! Not sure if they’re doing the bobsleigh or the skating. Bound to be handy for the shooting element of the biathlon though.

quite jealous- always preferred the winter to the summer Olympics, and having spent a fair bit of time last few years around Milan and north of there, gutted that can’t go to these games as just love the area / food / wine etc

Lindsey Vonn broke her leg today after a fall competing with a snapped ACL which she did last week, aged 41 in what will be her final games

was always a risk for her but she took it anyway after 2 successful practice runs last couple of days 

it looks like she had started on an aggressive line and as she turned into small mound her ski pole clipped the gate as she became airborne turning her slightly mid air resulting in the fall

She never quite emulated her ex (Tiger) with the comeback victory she craved but she was certainly living for the moment- not sure if there is a need to be in the public eye but wish her a full and speedy recovery
