I loved arguing with that honking bigot donsdaft on A/Mad about this (RIP Min)

He did.  He and DD loved an argument about trans women.

For the avoidance of doubt and to calm existing DT users nerves, poor Donsdafts passing was nothing to do with Mason.

It didn't get that heated.

Ha that’s a shame, never knew he was of that opinion, but I don’t think this thread wasn’t about when he used to post here.

Has anyone gained from the budget?

I work in oil and was hoping for a bit of good news, but sadly nothing.

I reckon I'll be out of a job soon.

Can see Aberdeen really suffering in the coming years. I don't remember seeing the industry this quiet in my years working in it and have seen a few slumps.

Is there much transition to alternative energy technologies happening in ABZ?

There’s plenty of it happening with technologies that are easily transferable (e.g. ROVs). Less so on drilling, production equipment, etc.

Companies doing subsea construction, inspection, maintenance, etc, are likely to be coping a lot better than the traditional O&G service companies.

Although even then everyone is struggling as the wind market is in the toilet also. A lot of the investment in offshore wind comes from oil companies trying to (or appearing to try to) diversify into clean energies but there seems to be a reluctance to invest more if the returns from oil production is drying up or being heavily taxed.

Next 6 months are going to be grim for the city.

Aye, 2026 is going to be a grim year.

Yesterdays budget will likely see a huge amount of jobs lost in the coming months.

A lot of renewable companies are in England and the central belt in Scotland, as Aberdeen took their eye off the ball and didn't diversify quick enough.

Oil was always going to end, but didn't think it would be so quick and sudden.

it will become very apparent, very quickly, that this is going to be a disaster for Aberdeen, but the UK will still be importing oil & gas from other countries for years to come.

A bit like what we did with coal back in the 80s.

I'm so glad I steered my sons away from the industry, althought it will be more than just oil workers that will suffer.

GB Energy to save the day.

😂
