swaddon Posted December 15, 2025 Report Posted December 15, 2025 I had one of those Star bars that people were mentioning earlier. It was okay. Like a Boost but without the biscuit. Quote

Then looked up and they’ve been closed 15 years There is a new Old Jamaica under the Bournville range but not a patch on original. Never knew it was still available. Thought it was discontinued way back in the day. Quote
Nordicus Posted December 16, 2025 Report Posted December 16, 2025 only place for today's confectionery is in the bucket nobody who experienced the taste & variety of yesteryear - probably up till the end of the 80's would touch what passes for chocolate today Quote

Proper chocolate and I can’t touch Cadbury anymore, just doesn’t come anywhere near close. Not made with any of the palm oil shite either. 1 Quote
TheDonbytheDee Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 Had my first ever Walnut Whip last night, very enjoyable. No chocolate snob by any means and still like a bar of Cadbury chocolate, but undoubtedly went downhill since the yanks got involved in them. A Penguin biscuit can't be classed as a chocolate biscuit anymore, due to lacking the required level of cocoa in them. Same with a club biscuit. I think that rule will be applied to a well known chocolate bar, soon enough. Quote

Pineapple was a particular favourite of mine. Lorry tipped its load in Mastrick and parked up in car park where rent Office is now. It was like a non alcoholic version of whisky galore as bottles disppeared . Pineapple ,strawberry ,american ice cream soda etc. Actually sickened ourselves of it and ended up putting hole in caps , shaking it and spraying each other like we had won the grand prix. My favourite drink though was actually scotch cola ( which I think might have been hays ) Hays lemonade and advocaat & scotchmac & sweetheart stout were actually acceptable drinks at new year parties for under 12s back in the day plus the scoofs from cans of mcewans export when pouring them into those dimpled beer mugs with handles ( krugs?) for your uncles. Hardly drink alcohol now and "ale" of choice currently is pepsi max..would love to try scotch cola again 1 Quote

You can see a picture of a bottle in the below link, hopefully it works. Not sure that's the original stuff the bottle though and certainly wouldn't want to drink it. Woodpecker Cider and Bon Accord Blackcurrant cordial was drink of choice for kids in our house. Advocaat and Babycham too. Never liked McEwans when I was young, but my pint of choice now. I find my taste buds have changed a lot, as I get older. https://www.gumtree.com/p/hobbies-collectibles/hays-vintage-scotch-cola-bottle-unopened/1494814821 Quote
manc_don Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago Not of yester year, but I think if the recipe changes it counts right? After looking up Lutz's contact deets for OD, I found out that Penguin chocolates are now chocolate flavour coated rather than chocolate coated?!? Quote
