Disagree. 99% of SPFL games are comparatively mild mannered. Football fans are no different to any other sporting spectator and shouldn't be treated differently. It won't be the ones drinking watered down expensive pish in the lower deck causing trouble at matches. Hence why corporate goes by without a hitch at almost every ground.

All the idiots have moved on to coke rather than booze these days anyway, leaving the way clear for the good guys to enjoy a watered down pint.

Its a point of principal for me. I have absolutely no interest in paying £8 a pint for shite lager, but I’m an adult and I should have the option if I want it.

As Rico says, most games go off without a hitch so there’s really no reason to treat us all like untrustworthy toddlers.

Its the arse cheeks you can’t trust and who spoil it for everyone else, so keep the booze away from those arseholes & leave the grown ups to get on with it…

With dunfermline winning today we finish as best team of the group stage. Most points, best goal difference. Only Ayr also won all 4 matches. Obviously this is the expectation given the size of our club relative to everyone else in the group stage and especially when we are not expected to play another top flight side. That said there's no harm in taking a little satisfaction.

But are we adding booze? Is there anyone who wouldn't drink on a match day who now will because you can buy one in the RDS?

It just means a few folk will leave the pub earlier and buy their last pint at the stadium.

You are right there. It is fine in its current form but presumably the end goal is to serve alcohol all around the stadium and during the game otherwise it won't add much to the coffers if it is done in such a restricted manner.

No, they're not, but I can see why people might think that. I sit next to corporate, and regularly see pished football supporters causing no more hassle than you'd get at a rugby match. I'm sure there are a large proportion of fans go to the pub to drink a similar amount of booze as they would in ground, beforehand. Yet there isn't wide scale trouble with alcohol at Aberdeen games*, nor any other grounds as far as I'm aware.

There are a small minority of football fans who cause trouble, and will continue to do so regardless of access to booze in the ground. Whether that minority is proportionally greater than in other sports, I'm unsure, although it probably is. The minority certainly isn't large enough that we should have been treating football fans differently for decades.

*I guess we could treat away fans separately here, as there is probably a disproportionately high number of boozed up folks due to the journey and day out, but they can easily be exempted from buying alcohol, and will be.

I think that if you're correct, then the problem isn't really related to football then, but to socio-economic status, which makes a ban even more contentious. I have absolutely no doubt that that is what the people in power believe, and probably the police too.

I also wonder what the supply and income generation model actually involves here. I’m assuming the club are simply outsourcing the supply of Madri to an external delivery partner and so ‘profits’ are a small percentage or simply tie into a rental of space style agreement? Not going to ‘boost the coffers’ much. Maybe they think it attracts more volume into the stadium on your average matchday? Again, not sure that shifts the needle much on a wet Sunday in Feb against St Johnstone.

Good to see it happen though and also it’s a kudos to the club for getting it done first ( others I’m sure will follow) and sticking two fingers up at those two clubs who’ve been holding us all to ransom with their hateful bullshit.

That's ridiculous. Nobody in Dundee should be allowed alcohol. Unless visiting the city from Aberdeen and destroying a local boozer.

If anything, selling alcohol in the stadium helps deal with the anti-social problems that drinking can cause, because most of the trouble is between the bar and the stadium.

Get them in the stadium and serve them there and you eliminate a lot of issues. Unless the RDS concourse is going to be half full of Hearts fans on Saturday then it'll be fine.

Rugby: What you don't see at the rugby is a group of 20 young lads with balaclavas on looking for the opposition's equivalent. But I don't think alcohol plays a part in that, because they could all be teetotal and still want to pavement dance.
