All this Fyvie talk has reminded me of another lost Classic Thread from AbMad.

It was basically puns related to places in the North East of Scotland.

Ones that I can remember include "I hope Fyvie gets fu-Kintore into the Old Firm" and "if he has a girlfriend and he has a bad game, I hope he doesn't Ballater".

Just reminded me of one of SF Eds headings - "Turriffic Fyvie signs New deer...er deal"  🏆

New kit. From what I gather Adidas are no more from next season isn't it.

I don't expect a return to the purity of the Bukta years but it would be magic if we could return to a much plainer design. All red shirt with white collar and cuffs. Single 2" wide white stripe down each side of the shorts. Red socks with a white turnover. Perfection.

Sounds like the 70-71 clobber.
I still have my Dons Subbuteo team of that season somewhere in the depths of the loft, numbers hand-painted on with a pin, and hair coloured to match the players’ barnets. Hummel Paints had no ginger shade, so our number 8’s heid is the same colour as his shirt, shorts, and socks. Neither Olivia Newton-John nor Stevie Nicks are in the team box, but I did raid another team so that we has a sub - George Buchan, whose coiffeur shade matches the 12 on his back. There is also a change strip XI, which was bought fae Jimmy Asher’s in Keith as Chelsea before customisation.
The 70-71 outfit was a classic, and that squad is up there with 1983 in my mind.

It's amazing how football is still able to surprise.  I've been fan of the game since 1990 and  I have never heard of Bukta before.  If anyone is in the same boat https://www.footballshirtculture.com/kit-design/the-history-of-bukta.html

Rubber Shop was the go to. Not even a logo on the chest just the Bukta name printed on the size label inside the collar.

Later on they became best known for being the first kit sponsor in Scotland when they had their name splashed across the front of the Hibs kits. Caused a right furore at the time.

Refuse to start a new threat for him, but what has happened to Marko lazetic?? I actually liked him, the goal against st mirren and Im are we were thinking we may have a player. Looks like a pub league forward now, lazy and just out to hit people. Hope he has a change of fortune as I’m sure he’s on a decent wage, and getting money back to point him could be a challenge!

The Northern Light fanzine.

Whatever happened to that or is still on the go? Used to be a good laugh.

All three major fanzines Northern Light, Paper Tiger, and The Red Final have ceased publication, the most recent casualty TRF, in 2025, I think. Quite the innings from its free Issue 0, coincidental with the opening of the Dick End in 1993, to its last offering in 24 or 25. The internet, and things like Off The Ball dented, and then killed the printed page when news and gossip were available almost immediately.

Shame that. Hopefully they'll make a comeback like LPs, cassette tapes and digital watches. 80s retro is a big thing now apparently.

Nae chance. When I was involved, sometimes it was like an alternative full-time job (when I had a full-time job).

Sad times then. I used to like getting a football programme as well but now they're just like bloody magazines and cost an arm and a leg.

No thanks.

What was the one that came out in the late 80s, the Northern light? And when did it cease?

TNL was the first (and best). It stopped around 92, I think. TRF published its issue 0 (free) for the Clydebank LC tie/opening of the RDS in Aug 93 and finally gave up last year or the year before. Paper Tiger only survived about 4-5 issues, around 95-97.
