  1. Think you will find that this is a whole new level of cost reductions. When the huns are laying off office staff and tarting their top players in the transfer window then its a totally different ball game. Our trimming down in the early 2000's will not be enough to cope with the current situation. The world is in financial meltdown and football clubs are just as vulnerable as any, if not more. Banks can no longer carry football clubs in the way they have been. Its the quickening, I tell thee.

So we're all doomed then ? ;) I would have thought though, that because of those severe cost reductions we made earlier on in the century, that we would be in a better position than most of the other teams (Hibs excluded for obvious reasons). As I said though, I would be quite intrigued to see if a) Seve signs and b) what his terms would be. I would expect them to be considerably less than what we assume he is on? Looks like Miller signed his new contract at the right time, for him financially anyway! Or are my thoughts somewhat naive? Surely the players that are out of contract must realise that given the financial climate, no-one will be willing to pay what they are wanting.

Jager, without getting into the whole Milne investing in our club debate, the shares thing, is that not the sole reason why Milne cannot invest heavily into our club as he doesn't have the funds available?

  2. BBC been doing a wee documentary on it the past couple of days.

I personally don't think this will really impact us (apart from wiggy's personal loss in the building industry) as we cut costs big style earlier on when everyone else was slow on the uptake. Wonder if it will though have an impact on players wages (i.e. those who's contracts are up in the summer)?

  3. Fuck me, not much chat about this today!

    IN/Out: Out

    Pre Match: Flat

    Match: Hubbards

Post Match: Depends on the result!

Not overly confident, but fuck it, hopefully we'll have a large support for tonight, my only worry is it seems that generally when the club does offers like this one, not many people take them up on it  :-\ Anyway, COME ON YOU REDS left get fired into these fife minks!

  4. I'm not sure I'd pick a Liverpool board to gloat on though  :-\

And for yer info Shabba - I don't have a very big interest in the dutch league. I go to see a game if I am visiting family there. That's the limit of my interest.

I also don't remember myself coming on here gloating after any result except those of Aberdeen. Next time ADO Den Haag win though, I'm gonna spam a Man Utd board with gloats!!!

YAASSSS it occured this weekend ;) 3-0 against NAC at home. Thats 4 points back to back. I think thats the most they've amassed all season! Vak G!

  5. The comments regarding money should bring it home to all the folk that think "we deserve better". We deserve what we can afford. Blue Square Premier League players for £21 entrance money per week    :-[

Its fucking depressing when you put it like that! I think its a well established fact that the SPL is a vastly overated league in terms of entrance. It is one of the few leagues where you pay a ridiculous amount of money for very little entertainment/value for money. Just curious, why did we sell the rights to a catering company for the food? One thing though, surely lower the cost would increase the amount of people attending games, and therefore in the club shop? I know we've had this debate a billion times before but I don't think I ever found out why we sold the franchise for the catering?

  6. I reckon its anybody's at present, UTD are leaking points all over the place and Hearts have a brutal run in.

That they do, but they have the knack of actually grinding out results which is highly annoying. I still think 3rd is out of our reach, but 4th is our minimum requirement now.

  7. WE HAVE REASONS TO BE CONFIDENT GOING INTO THE GAME, SAYS ABERDEEN MANAGER

Calderwood homes in on Pars in cup countdown

    By Paul Third

Aberdeen have an impressive home record in cup competitions under Jimmy Calderwood. The Dons manager is in no mood to surrender it with a place in the Scottish Cup semi-final at stake.

Dunfermline, who have been finalists twice in the last six years, visit Pittodrie tomorrow in the quarter-final replay after a 1-1 draw at East End Park.

Pars manager Jim McIntyre believes playing away from home will suit his players, who have struggled at home this season. But Calderwood is in no mood to let a semi-final berth pass his team by. He said: “We have gone out to Hibs, Hearts and Dundee United, all away from home, in my time here. The only time we have lost at home in any cup competition while I have been manager was to Rangers in my first season in charge.

“Even in the Uefa Cup we are unbeaten at home, so we have reasons to be confident going into the game. We know what we have to do. We are at home again and we are undefeated since the first four games of the season at home.â€

With the Pars slipping out of the First Division title race, Calderwood is mindful the national cup competition is the last chance for success for his former club and has warned his players they will have to start better than they did in the first game.

He said: “Dunfermline have always had a good, experienced team and they are capable of beating most teams on their day. Their senior players know this is their last chance of success this year and they caused us problems in the opening 20 minutes at East End Park.

“If we start as poorly again we will be in big trouble.

“The last couple of results have probably cost Dunfermline their chance of promotion, so the cup will have taken on even greater significance for them.

“They will think they have as good a chance as any of the teams left of reaching the final and they have the recent track record of reaching finals to fuel their belief. The first goal is crucial. If Dunfermline get it, they will take a massive lift and the home supporters will be on edge. If we get it then it will be very difficult for them as not many teams score two goals here. It is up to us to set the pace and try to dictate.â€

Calderwood received some positive news yesterday when Lee Miller resumed training.

The Dons forward was expected to be out for another couple of weeks with a hamstring injury but has returned quicker than expected.

Midfielder Gary McDonald is also back in training and is in contention for tomorrow’s game. The Dons manager said: “Lee is back running which is great news. He could be fit for Saturday. Gary is also fit for selection for Wednesday. He is eager to return.

“Those two players have shown there are goals in them and we have really missed Gary’s energy levels. He times his runs well and is horrible to play against. We’ve missed him. He has made himself so important for us.â€

  8. I've been watching Extreme Fishing with Robson Green.

I thought his Geordie/Fake-American accent would have disappeared now he had arrived in New Zealand... it hadn't.  >:D

Robson Green is a tool - but I like fishing programs  :-\

The new series Yellowstone on BBC was good. I always think wolves look really playful but they're nasty bastards!  ;D

Was the next one of Yellowstone on tonight? I saw yesterday's one with the guy who shoveled the snow of the roofs, what a fun job, just playing in the snow for 5 months! The bears were awesome yesterday  ;D

  9. The Barras is the perfect venue, its just the right size, the acoustics seem to work perfectly, and the bar is right next to the stage. It's got a very unique feel/atmosphere and I wish more bands would play there. It seems to have become second choice for a lot of bands now.

Apparently its not the bands who don't choose to play there, but their promoters who obviously want to make the most possibly money from the gig. I got free Franz Ferdinand tickets the other week and saw them at Barrowlands and I was very impressed with the venue. I don't mind the Carling/O2 Academy, but the Barrowlands was special. The downstairs bar is FTW, served within a second during the gig

  10. I think that plays into our hands a wee bit.  Teams will open up against us a little more away which given the defences of minkerwell and hibs is no bad thing from our point of view.  Hopefully mcdonald will be back and seve can move back to defence leaving us more solid at the back

Completely agree, I think generally we do better away from home (touch wood) though obviously our unbeaten record at home says otherwise. The sooner McDonald is back in the team the better, might we actually see our strongest line up for the first time this season? Motherwell worry me more than Hibs do as they seem to have a bit of momentum about them now, but at the end of the day we just have to hope that the tactics are spot on and things go our way. Its about time this team pulled its fingers out of their respective arses! COME ON YOU REDS!

  11. Sharpie, just remembered a great wee pub with a number of good beers on draught and bottle.

The Crown and Kettle. top of Oldham Street, opposite the frog and bucket comedy club. You have to cross Ancoats (road) to get to it, but its a great pub with a burnt out ceiling. Definite football pub so get there in advance and ask there. nice pub.

Otherwise, as I said, the Waldorf Hotel (small typical old mans pub) which is off Picadilly street on I think its Gore Street. You'll see it from that walk down from the station on your left hand side anyway.

Just fyi, If you fancy some good beer, goto the Oyster Bar on corporation square. The Alpine lager (Samuel Smiths) is both nice and cheap, 1.70!  tudor pub that was raised to allow for construction around the area.

  12. This is a bit of a long shot but does anybody know of any bars in Manchester that may show the game?

You shouldn't have a problem as I don't think there are any other important games on are there? Otherwise, Walkabout (just off deansgate). There used to be a sports bar next door to it but it appears to have shut down. There is also the Waldorf (just off the street as you walk down from Picalily station to the gardens.

Edit: There is also O'sheas (IRA pub) but they are generally cunts about it and I went there a number of times to be told it was a Smeltic pub.  i'll let you know if I think of any others.

  13. Robo, why do you speak such shite? It pissed me off United lost, yes, especially in the manner they did. However, do you for one second actually believe had United actually played to their capabilities you would have been anywhere near scoring a goal? No, and somewhere in your dellusional head you know that to be true. Despite beating the Reds from the right side of the NW, you still languish behind. You deserved to win on Saturday, and fair play to Liverpool, but in my eyes the only result that mattered on Saturday was Aberdeen 1 - Hamilton 0. Blips like the 4-1 we witnessed on Saturday very rarely happen but it happened and United will regroup from this and storm the league from here on in. It just amuses me that you even think Liverpool are a team capable of actually winning the league  ???

So how does the tune go, build a bonfire.....
