  1. We are missing Nicholson.

Big style, but the few games I have been to and seen Macdonald play in, I'm quite convinced that he will become the next "Nicholson" if you will. Time will tell though. I think we all knew how good a squad we potentially had last season, just a shame we couldn't keep it together for the whole season and beyond.

  2. i'm just glad we got three points and more than one goal. Should give the players some much needed confidence at home. Lets just hope we have no more defensive fuck ups like last saturday this saturday!

  3. Miller can make Scots mark, says Calderwood

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood has challenged Dons attacker Lee Miller to force his way into George Burley's Scotland squad.

The 25-year-old forward, who played a key role in last night's 2-0 victory against St Mirren, was omitted fro the Scotland squad to face Argentina at Hampden next week despite impressive performances in recent weeks.

Miller did not let the disappointment affect him at Pittodrie last night as Andrew Considine's 80th-minute opener and Sone Aluko's second three minutes from time gave Aberdeen a hard-fought victory in a wretched encounter.

Calderwood said: “George Burley has plenty of options so it is up to him. He watched Lee on Saturday so he knows what he can do.

“George told me Lee was in his thoughts a few months ago, so, while it is disappointing for Lee, he knows he is being considered.

“It is up to him to keep battling away and keep up his form.

“He was frustrated against St Mirren because the service was poor but I would have felt the same if I was him. Lee knows the interest is there and it is up to him to create some headlines for himself."

Calderwood was pleased with his side as Aberdeen claimed their second home victory of the season which did not seem likely as the match entered the latter stages.

The Dons toiled for long periods against an organised Buddies side but eventually found the breakthrough when Considine blasted home a Mark Kerr cutback before Aluko sealed the victory with three minutes remaining.

Until the opening goal a season-low Pittodrie attendance of 9,452 was becoming increasingly disgruntled with their side's display but Considine insisted the ends justified the means as the Dons climbed to fourth in the SPL ahead of tonight's fixtures.

Considine said: “It was always going to be a hard game but we dug in and got the result.

“I know the football was not that great and the supporters were not too happy but the three points were the main thing.

“It is massive to be up to fourth in the table. A few weeks ago we were bottom and down in the dumps but now if results go for us tonight we can be fourth going to Hibs on Saturday.

“To win ugly is just as important as thrashing teams. Too many times we have played better than teams and lost.

“We did not have the best of games but we were strong collectively and the defence was solid.

“The supporters have been disappointed with the results at home, they have been great, but we knew they were not enjoying it but you have to shut those things out.

“Mark Kerr did brilliantly down the line to cut it back, I just got my head down and hit it. It was a good goal but I was just happy to help the team out.

“I have made my fair share of mistakes, so it was equally good to get the clean sheet. I felt bad over the weekend. I have not been able to eat and it takes it out of you. I struggled a bit during the game but the goal helped."

  4. SS when did I say that Pakistani's are the only muslims? I'm just saying there is a league available to solely Muslims which would insinuate that there are a number of muslims or Pakistani's who play/like football. Having lived in Manchester and the area I was talking about, a lot of them were Pakistani and they played football

  5. Thats quite scary really.

think we have been here before with zero(rip x) a luxury player we can ill afford, when we have a left back, who cant defend behind him (mulgrew is a midfielder, as once, seve was a GREAT midfider. not blaming either, blaming jimmy for not having a clue how to set up a team. aluko is great for 10mins tops in a game. mackie is pish but at least hes our colour o pish.

I'm not saying there isn't racism at Pittodrie, but its less vocal, but some of that shite on that board disgusts me.

  6. They didn't show much at all!

Duff had a good shot parried away by Combe late on but don't show that FFS.

Indeed! Apparently Hughes was on Sultana saying that judging by the highlights Killie should have won  :o I always struggle to understand the logic with the people who do the highlights, because they usually miss the most important stuff!

  7. SS Red, I think you'll find plenty of Pakistani's do actually like football. When I studied in Manchester, you quite often saw them wearing united and city shirts. Hell they even have their own Muslim league so to say they don't like football is way wide of the mark. AFC I think were trying to broaden the potential attendees which I see no problem with. Whats wrong with trying to attract a more diverse crowd when our crowd numbers are dwindling?

Re Racism in the Aberdeen support, I've heard it once, directed at Szamotulski to which I told the guy to fuck off and he apologised.

  8. I thought we by far the better team and had the best players on the park.

The formation was a Jakki Brambles though and seemed to suit Killie more than us.

That said, we won, so it was a formation that worked.

Miller was excellent, as was Seve and Aluko, who should have scored more than one.

I am also becoming more and more impressed with Hodgekiss. Very tidy and uncomplicated and does the simple defending tasks well and isn't short of pace.

Word of praise for Foster too. There I said it.

Still think Seve and Kerr is the way forward in the middle though, Kerr was very good when he came on and Young had a very disappointing game.

After the game the discussion was about how McDonald will get back into the team and Smith could have difficulty too if he can't regain some semblance of fitness for a sustained period.

All sounds quite positive! Lets hope it continues and I am very glad we got Hodgekiss an extended loan deal with us! Looks like a tidy player.

As BB said, it is frustrating that we don't start our season like this, but other teams have blips and slow starts. Just makes our season more exciting  ;) Did Young start? Has he not been very ineffectual of late? Odd that he still seems to be getting a game ahead of others. But most important thing is that we got the three points, 3rd by December could still be on BB

  9. As a few have said, its about time some away team got on the end of a drubbing at Pittodrie. I'd be more than happy with a 2-0 win for us! Though I can see us conceeding one as they seem to be scoring a few goals this season.

  10. Ultras’ Pittodrie flags are banned

THE Dons today revealed they have banned flag displays at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen have given fans group the Red Ultras – who organise colourful displays on match days – the red card after smoke flares were let off during last month’s SPL clash with Celtic in Glasgow.

Club sources confirmed the ban was imposed in connection with an alleged incident at Celtic Park where a man was said to have used a ticket purchased by the Ultras group.

The Ultras receive special privileges to get into Pittodrie early to lay out the card and flag displays which have been a feature of Aberdeen’s home games in recent seasons.

That privilege has been removed until further notice.

Dons spokesman Dave Macdermid said: “The ban on flag displays will remain until we decide otherwise.

“We are not happy with what happened at Celtic Park and believe we have taken the right step to show that bad behaviour at games will not be tolerated.â€

The SPL take a dim view of fans carrying smoke flares into matches and have asked the Dons to explain why a total of five were set off during the Celtic game.

Macdermid said: “We have already been fined by UEFA because a fan set off a flare during our match against Dnipro in the Ukraine.

“It’s important we are seen to act and urge fans to remember it’s the club who will suffer if they don’t behave at games.â€

The Ultras responded to the ban by raising a banner at last weekend’s match at Falkirk with the words “Business as usual†printed on it.

The Evening Express received a telephone call from a fan, who initially claimed he wasn’t a member of the Ultras, confirming the ban was in place.

The fan eventually admitted he was a member of the Ultras but refused to give his name and promised to get one of their group to come back with an official comment.

We are still waiting. We were also unable to contact Steve McCormick, who has acted as the spokeman for the Ultras in the past.

CRAIG Hendry, 27, of Aberdeen, appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court on September 30 charged with culpable and reckless conduct at the Celtic game.

He made no plea or declaration and was granted bail.

Can't say I saw the flare being lit, but thats a shame.

  11. If we're in the top half of the table by the time Santa has packed away the sled for another year and is getting ready for the North Pole New Year party, then I'll be happy. Well, a bit less miserable. I'm never happy.

Completely agree. My prozac led prediction of 3rd by December suits me much more though ;)
