  1. I think things are starting to fall into place for us.  Kerr, Aluko, and Mulgrew look to be the best buys. All three have impressed me over the past few matches and long may it continue.  Considine looks to have screwed the nut (fingers crossed) which is a big plus, if he could be trusted to play alongside Diamond in the defence we'd then be able to push Seve into midfield.  Severin and Kerr looked like a very decent midfield partnership last Saturday, Kerr was the ball winner and Severin's distribution was spot on 99% of the time.

All in all I feel a lot better about how things are panning out than I did a month or so ago.

I agree with you except the feeling better now than I did a month ago. A month ago I had far more optimism than I do now. I was confident we would be 3rd by some point in December, but i'm not so sure now. Its nice to see us playing well, we just really need to concentrate more. What was the most frustrating thing about Saturday was that we weren't bossed out the game and lost to yet again, two shite moments of concentration in defence. I know the team have the ability, I just hope Calderwood doesn't change it up for the sake of changing it up.

  2. JC, it's not difficult, you even said it yourself:

    Why?!   :hammer:

Matching up to St Mirren at home or going out to win against the Huns in Glasgow.

If it works against the Huns then surely to fuck it would work against poorer opposition!

I think that quote alone is what sums up Jimmy Calderwood. Its bloody annoying.  :hammer:

  3. Charlie Adam should be hung from the rafters for what he did. Clear intent and went for Sone. Usually I would say how it would be surprising that none of the officials picked it up, but then again, it was snake mountain, it was the huns, i'm not surprised.

Severin knows how it feels to win at Ibrox

Aberdeen captain Scott Severin knows what it feels like to beat Rangers at Ibrox and today he aims to prove he still has what it takes to get the better of the Light Blues on their home patch.

Aberdeen have not won at Ibrox in 17 years, but Severin helped Hearts to a 1-0 victory there in 2004.

The 29-year-old is older, wiser and ready to call on all of his experience as he leads a youthful Dons team out against Walter Smith’s side this afternoon.

Severin said: “Jamie Smith and myself must be the only players in the current squad who know what it is like to win there. When you go to places like that you have to take your chances.

“It’s strange when you play at the Old Firm grounds as you get time on the ball to pass it and, hopefully, we can create chances this weekend as we have the players who can take them.

“We have a decent record against them at Pittodrie but at Ibrox it is pretty poor. One draw in the last four years is not enough – but we can take confidence from knowing that underdogs often win.

“For example, Hamilton Accies won at Pittodrie this season for the first time in 70 years and Inverness had never beaten us until this season. A few records we were proud of have gone, so, hopefully, we can break another one.â€

Severin believes the Dons players are ready to answer manager Jimmy Calderwood’s plea for courage and is hoping to set a quick tempo early in today’s encounter.

He said: “We need to defend high up the park and create chances. We have the players and the attitude to do that. Sone Aluko and Darren Mackie have the pace and have scored goals in recent weeks, while Lee Miller will be full of confidence following his Scotland showing.

“We have to be brave and get the ball down and pass it. Mark Kerr will be an important player and midfield will be the key area.â€

  5. Was down Byres Road earlier and saw some of the vermin on their way to the match... one hun dad and his hun son, hun dad reminding the juvenile hun to "put yer fuckin scarf on for fucks sake". The wee wank didn't want to, I'm not surprised... it was bright orange, with "ULSTER" written all the way down it.  Lovely touch.

Thats hun "class" for you ;)

  6. Dons will raise game – not only against Rangers, says Maguire

ABERDEEN FORWARD HOPING FOR START AT IBROX AFTER IMPRESSING FOR YOUNG SCOTS

    By Michael Gannon

    Published: 21/11/2008

Aberdeen attacker Chris Maguire has rejected the oft-quoted accusation the Dons only raise their game when they are facing Rangers.

Light Blues defender David Weir trotted out the now-customary line this week in the build-up to Aberdeen’s trip to Ibrox tomorrow, a venue the Dons have not claimed victory at since 1995.

Rangers have failed to win in their last four trips to Pittodrie and saw their hopes of lifting the SPL extinguished in a 2-0 defeat in the Granite City on the final day of last season.

It has been a different story at Ibrox where the Dons have lost on their last four visits but Maguire is confident Aberdeen can emerge with at least a point.

The 19-year-old forward is hoping to be handed a place in the starting line-up after coming off the bench for the injured Darren Mackie last weekend and impressing on his debut for Scotland under-21s in the 3-1 midweek defeat to Northern Ireland.

He said: “It is a bit unfair to say we just raise our game to play against Rangers.

“I think we showed at Celtic a few weeks ago that it is not the case.

“We came very close there and although we have not been at our best in the past few weeks, we have started grinding out results.

“Hopefully, we can get a positive result at Ibrox that will help turn things round.

“When they came up to Pittodrie on the final day of last season we showed we would not allow them to push us over to get the three points.

“Teams such as Dundee United have gone to Ibrox and got the points as well so there is no reason we can get a result there.

“The Old Firm let you play with the ball and it is up to us to do something with it.

“The games between ourselves and Rangers are usually quite close.

“We have to go out there and try to get a positive result. We were bottom of the table, but it is very tight this season and a couple of results and you are up the table again.

“Hopefully, I can get back into the manager’s plans.

“I thought I did all right in the second half last week and the first half on Tuesday, so hopefully the manager considers that.â€

Maguire enjoyed his Scotland debut and he predicts a bright future for Billy Stark’s new-look side despite the losing start.

He said: “That was the first time we played together and there were some positives to take from it. As time goes on and the more games we play, the better we will get.

“You do not get much time together, but you have to work hard for your club and hope it comes together when you meet up for your country.â€

  7. Not sure if this should be here or in the general football forum but nevermind.

    Miller stakes strong Scotland claim

Early Maxi Rodriguez goal at hampden enough to sink Burley’s team in friendly international

Lee Miller is determined to be a regular in the Scotland squad when the national team comes out of international football hibernation in Holland next March.

The Aberdeen attacker was a late inclusion to manager George Burley’s squad and was surprised to come off the bench for the second half in Scotland’s 1-0 defeat by Argentina at Hampden last night.

Miller acquitted himself well and is determined to impress Burley with his club form in the four months until Scotland resume their World Cup qualifying campaign.

In the frenzy of Diego Maradona’s first match as Argentina manager it was easy to forget this was Burley’s final match before his side faces an ominous trip to Amsterdam.

Burley had the option of another friendly but instead has opted for a squad get-together and Miller is desperate to be part of it.

He said: “I had no idea I was getting on. I was out training at half-time and David Clarkson told me I had to go in. I thought he was taking the mickey.

“It was great to get on, I enjoyed every minute of it.

“I felt I did all right. I got stuck in and had a few half chances.

“I managed to get in because there were a few call-offs but there are four months until the next squad and a lot can happen in that time.

“I just need to keep working hard for Aberdeen and score a few goals and, hopefully, I can be part of the manager’s plans for the Holland squad.â€

Miller’s performance was one of several plus points in an encouraging evening for Scotland.

Burley was without seven key players, with Craig Gordon, Darren Fletcher, Kenny Miller, Barry Robson, Steven Fletcher, James Morrison and Ross McCormack all pulling out through injury.

There were returns however for Barry Ferguson – for the first time under Burley – as well as Tottenham defender Alan Hutton, who impressed at right back.

It looked ominous for Scotland early on when Maxi Rodriguez gave Argentina an eighth-minute lead in Maradona’s first match in charge.

The Maradona factor was evident throughout and helped swell the attendance to almost 35,000, which enabled the SFA to recoup the majority of the £700,000 it paid to persuade the Argentine side to travel to dark, cold and rainy Scotland.

Miller was more concerned with matters on the pitch and he insisted Scotland’s display will give them confidence going into the Dutch match next spring.

The Dons striker said: “That is the way football should be played. They pass the ball so well and it was a good learning experience for us. It was difficult in those opening 15 minutes or so, we could not get near them, but we stuck to our task and got stronger as the game went on.

“We had a couple of half-chances here and there and it can give us confidence for going to Holland.

“That game will be equally difficult – but we managed to keep possession for spells in the game and it will be crucial to do that over there.â€

Miller’s focus is now on Aberdeen’s trip to Ibrox to face Rangers this weekend.

He added: “It has been a great week and it is another big game on Saturday.

“We have done well against Rangers in recent years but not at Ibrox.

“It would be great to put that right.â€

  8. should be on footy doctor, but i reckon that PJ Champs on Byres Road may be showing it. Will go past it either tonight or tomorrow and will check and let you know.

    Good man! Cheers

And cheers FJ for the back up plan!

  9. Agreed, he should have scored from that header, but still, it would do his confidence no end of good just getting a full half for Scotland,   Fingers crossed he can stick it to the Huns on sat. Incidentally, anyone know of any Hun pubs in Glasgow that would be showing the game? Can't afford to goto the game so figure it would be the next best thing  :-\

  10. The lad has bags of potential.

Next Michael Owen I heard ;)

In all seriousness though, as much as I dislike him, we have seen the best of him under JC. He has the knack of scoring important goals for us and he does play for the jersey which can't be said for most players these days. If he only he scored a few more goals he'd be a very good player for us.

  11. but what the fuck has hapened to Shaun Maloney?  Absolutely gash, and not for the first time in a Scotland shirt.

Completely agree! He was a waste of a substitution! Everything he touched went wrong to the extent where he even make Clubfoot look good!  :o  I was praying for Ferguson's hamstring to tweak when he was being substituted, alas it didn't happen  ;)

  12. Completely agree with you there Ajja, but I didn't think the team had been booed off recently? Especially in the past week? Every set of home fan because agitated and restless when their team are drawing or losing to a team they shouldn't be. Part of the job and whilst I agree that booing isn't doing any good, its up to them to show that they are trying to rectify it by doing the business on the park. Fans won't boo if they see effort and results, which are our minimum requirements.

  13. It doesn't matter if you're playing in the World Cup or 5's at Strikers - if you lose a goal in the last minute that changes the result of the game then it is natural to be raging.

I for one am actually happy that Calderwood was showing some passion for once. At least he felt the same way as the rest of us. Its these constant stupid fecking mistakes that are costing us, and sooner or later he is going to lose his job because of them. Aluko will be fine and needs to take the criticism as well as the praise.

  14. I have to wait to see the highlights from yesterday to see how daft and deep we were defending. I still can't get over it but as soon as we went 2-0 up I had flashbacks of when were were 3-1 up with some 20 mins to go last season. So I guess I wasn't surprised, just pissed off  :hammer:

Despite yesterday's result, I'm not overly concerned about playing the Huns next sat. I have no idea why, because we should be getting humped with the way our defence is at the moment. But I think its mainly because the players will raise their game against the scum and shouldn't be as nervous  ::) And the huns themselves are pathetically weak at the moment, I mean, even St Mirren scored against them, so our players should take confidence from that..... :-\

  15. Any news of Calderwood having a bust up with Aluko at the end of the game? According to MAD he went on the pitch and had a go at him for not going down for the peno and not tracking back for the corner. All speculation obviously.  :-\

  16. 1 Celtic 13 21 34

    2 Rangers 14 21 33

    11 St Mirren 14 -7 12

    12 Hamilton 13 -12 10

Really was two points lost, especially with the arabs losing  :hammer:

  17. Fucking predictable, that's what it is.

Sadly, thats the truth of it! I actually predicted 2-2 but thought it wasn't possible for us to throw away a 2 goal lead at Easter road AGAIN. Christ sake, as GD said, how could we lose possession for a goal kick in the last 30 secs......
