  1. Saturday`s game was the first time I`ve ever been through Motherwell town centre...what a dump!  However the thing which made we laugh the most was the sight of a "Wimpy" restaurant in the shopping centre bit.

I thought like I`d went back into the 80`s man!  Didn`t this establishment go out of business yonks ago???  Obviously not if Lanarkshire still wants to live in the dark ages.

You clearly didn't see Motherwell's tourist attraction then! The metal tree with metal seagulls on it. Absolute peach. Funniest thing was walking through the center and Ajja playing football with some Dandies who'd bought a huge red football. Until it popped that is!  :

  2. Guys, whilst can see the funny side of it, think our management team should be playing down the psycho side of Tommy Wright. Constant references to it in the press are only adding to the scrutiny he has himself ensured he'll come under in the coming weeks from refs.

Completely agree however I think he's already done that himself with his first statement to the press. But I agree whilst I enjoyed reading it, doesn't do much for him if he tries to "tone" it down a bit.

  3. Lanzaat has week to earn deal

I’ve warned him not to kick Tommy Wright, says Nicholl

ABERDEEN assistant manager Jimmy Nicholl has urged trialist Quido Lanzaat to give his all in his bid to earn a contract at Pittodrie this week.

The Dutch defender, who played for Ajax, Borussia Munchengladbach and 1860 Munich, is training with the Dons this week after being released by Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia. The 29-year-old has impressed with his ability but Nicholl admits it will take more than a good display of technique if the player is to win a deal.

He said: “Quido was sucking air a bit on Monday as he wasn’t used to the pace of the training. We had another hard session today and we could see he has a good football brain. He reads situations and passes the ball well. Technically, he is very good, but we have seen Dutch defenders here in the past who have been very good in possession of the ball but when it comes to the physical side of the game, they struggle.

“Some of them have it and some don’t. We have a week to find out if Quido has it.â€

Lanzaat has rebuilt his career following a failed drugs test in 2002 when he was with Munchengladbach. He was banned for three months when a blood test found traces of hashish but put the incident behind him to forge a career in Germany and Bulgaria.

The Dons management is satisfied the offence was an isolated incident and will judge the player on his performance this week.

Nicholl said: “If you are a centre forward you can score goals in training and if you are a winger you can cross balls and impress, but as a defender you have to show aggression as well as technical ability.

“Jimmy has given him a week to impress and we have signed players in the past on the back of a trial. We’ve told him he is here on trial and he has to give us everything. There can be no holding back. If he has to kick Darren Mackie or Chris Maguire in training then so be it, but I’ve warned him not to kick Tommy Wright.â€

While Lanzaat focuses on winning a deal, Dons forward Wright has been cleared to face Rangers on Saturday after the SFA decided not to take further action following an off-the-ball incident between Wright and Motherwell defender Stephen Craigan on Saturday.

Referee Steve Conroy included the incident in his report but decided no further action was necessary. Nicholl said: “I’m pleased Tommy can put Saturday behind him and concentrate on this game.â€

    Wright’s ready for Well test

Seve backs new striker against Steelmen

CASE FOR THE DEFENCE: Seve is happy to continue his new role at the back for Aberdeen.

ABERDEEN captain Scott Severin reckons Tommy Wright will lift the Pittodrie gloom by shooting down Motherwell tomorrow.

The new Dons striker is now vying for a starting slot at Fir Park after making his debut for the Reds reserves earlier this week.

Severin is convinced Wright’s arrival will provide the perfect tonic for his shell-shocked troops after the opening day defeat to Inverness Caley Thistle.

“Tommy has looked very sharp in training,†said Severin.

“He’s a strong lad and we’ll be looking for him to hold the ball up against Motherwell if he’s given a chance.

“Tommy also has goals in him and he’ll provide us with another option in attack which is always welcome.

“We have been depending on Lee Miller a bit too much in recent times so it’s nice to have an alternative.

“Tommy is the type of player who can change games and his arrival has given everyone a big lift.â€

Skipper Severin controversially started the Caley clash in defence and is prepared for an extended spell at the back.

But after the Highlanders found the net twice at Pittodrie Jimmy Calderwood could tinker with his back four tomorrow.

He added: “I’m happy enough to play in defence if that’s what the manager thinks is best for the team.

“I played the majority of the pre-season games alongside Andrew Considine at the back.

“The manager decided to continue with us for the Inverness Caley game.

“I thought we did reasonably well although we could have done a bit better for the first goal.

“If we get another opportunity against Motherwell then we have to make the most of it but the manager might opt to make changes.â€

Severin is still smarting even now after Aberdeen’s opening performance fell flat.

Caley’s first victory over the Dons at the 18th attempt stunned those in the red corner but Seve is determined to bounce back off the ropes against the Steelmen.

He said: “Even now we’re all still disappointed at losing the opening game to Inverness Caley.

“We started the match very well before we conceded possession too cheaply and they punished us when they scored their first goal.

“It was difficult to create chances against them as they defended strongly. But we should have the players capable of rising to that challenge.

“Our last 12 or 13 matches against Inverness were never the prettiest of games. They were happy to sit in and hit us on the break and their tactics worked well.

“At the second goal we were caught out up the park. It’s going to be difficult against Motherwell as they lost their opening match against Hearts.

“You don’t want to end up with no points on the board after the first two matches of the season.

“We’re going to have work really hard at Fir Park and pick ourselves up for the match. They showed they are a quality team by qualifying for Europe so we know what to expect.â€

  5. Just because he got a booking in a reserve game, doesn't mean he's some sort of thug. If he gets sent off in every game he plays this season, then I suppose we can call him a dirty player.

Look at Zander, he's been sent off lots of times, but he's not neccesarily a dirty player.

Zander was just rash, and still is to a degree but luckily he's turning that corner!
