When we played Bayern in '83 I would suspect that most Dons fans were saying exactly the same thing, not much has really changed. I also don't think that there was a huge gulf in skill level between that side and our current one. There was however a chasm in terms of grit, determination, belief and a will to win at all costs. I listended to that broadcast on the way home too and although I'm not sure I'd go as far as wanting success for them after the way their fans conducted themselves I did find myself thinking that Levein actually sounded like he had done his preperation and had really really wanted that win and fair play. I think that came across in the game and I was taken aback by that. You read all the hype around a game like that and you read that 'Miller knows how much it means to Aberdeen fans to be at a final' but somehow it doesn't get onto the field. We simply didn't have th esame hunger, every ball was chased down with lack of energy and hunger. United deserved the win and we deserved the pumping. Simple as, no point being bitter about that even if they are stinking arab bastards.

Their keeper was almost in behind our goal giving the forearm-placed-in-the-inside-elbow-and bending-said-arm-upwards gesture (you know the one...right ) Someone did go over the wall but was held back by another fan. The atmosphere was ugly at that point and the police were a disgrace. Not once did a cop or a steward enter the United end when they were bombarding Langfield (and I MEAN bombarding) with missiles. While as soon as our fans started they were all over it. I am really disappointed with our fans. We could have taken a moral stance and they blew that. No doubt the missiles were a turning point as Langfield was obviously rattled by it. Although we had been shit up to that point.

There is something to this 'winning the games we have to' but not as much as I think people put store in. When you analyse it how many games is that exactly ? If we hadn't put that performance in against Copenhagen then this season the answer would be fuck all I'm afraid. Our points haul against the so-called decent sides this season has been a disgrace. Celtic - 0 from 6 Rangers - 1 from 6 Hearts - 1 from 9 UTD - 3 from 9 Motherwell - 0 from 6 Total - 5 from 36 I would have said these games were important considering where we want to be challenging in the league and that point stotal is not the performance of a team who are winning 'big games'. How we are 5th in the league is beyond me
