  1. I see we're looking more likely to go in for Watford's now-2nd-choice keeper Richard Lee. He's only been ousted as #1 because Watford have just signed Estonian internationalist Mart Poom, and according to Vital Football, JimmyC is sniffing around. Apparently the Watford fans really rate Lee, and he wants out as he firmly believes that he should NOT be on the bench. I like that attitude!!
  2. Aye, I did like Leon Mike. I think it was more for the cult following he attracted. And this cult following has fuckall to do with his ability ... it was more the fact that he was our first signing in about 18 months or something like that. He was a very powerfully built striker too, and I reckon he could've been quite handy given the right coaching. But, as is the case with many Dons fans, I think my vision was blurred and I believed we had an okay team back then. In actualy fact, we had an absolute rank-rotten team back then, and Mike was a mediocre player in a shite team.
  3. No. So long as there is at least the same level of performance in the league. If there is a poor showing in the cups again, and our league positioning DROPS, then there could be pressure from Che Willie to get results sorted. But I think Jimmy is pretty safe in the job, as he's proven that he can make our squad and league-positions improve year upon year. I'd expect us to do much better in the cups. I ain't saying win them, but at least one semi-final would be an improvement.
  4. Okay, headline stuff now: When we sign him, the headline will be "Aberdeen Get The Fik, Aberdeen Aberdeen Get The Fik" When he scores his first hattrick for us, it'll be "Dutch wizard gives Gers the Fik" And in a decade's time, the caption competition in the EE will be "What the Fik happened?"

  6. Only improvement's a final? That's the words of a 90s Dons fan! We need to keep the hunger for success going at Pittodrie. I can't believe it's only been a couple of years since we were cheering on folk like Paul Sheerin, Leon Mike and believing that simply getting close to the Top Six was regarded as success. We were short of protesting at the front gates this season if anything lower than 3rd-place wasn't achieved by the end of the season! I like it!!! I firmly believe that, with the rather shite quality of signings from Rangers, and them losing a couple of VERY influential players (Prso for one!), 2nd place is definitely not out of the question. With Langfield being our only regular first-teamer from the 06/07 season who WON'T be pulling on the Aberdeen jersey in the 07/08 season, and defensive wing and attacking wing both being strengthened, I reckon we've got what it takes to finish SECOND next season. We just need to iron out those niggles like "not being up for the cup" games ... and our team actually turning up to matches against Dundee Utd.

    Done!
  8. Barthez! Now there's an idea! That'd certainly be a way of bringing the punters in in their droves. He'd probably be the most exciting player that we would sign since Champagne Charlie Nic. He'd be a more accomplished goalkeeper-cum-striker than Robbie Winters ever was too!!! I say sign him. If we did, I might even make the trip back to Scotland more often to see the Dons knowing he's playing.
  9. Shite how this has turned out though. He was supposedly the best thing to emerge from the Pittodrie youth conveyor belt since Eoin Jess. Hope the lad does well, but I sincerely reckon he's got a bit of an attitude problem as he clearly couldnae be arse lifting his game for our reserves side.
  10. By crikey!!! The EE are giving away a free cup of coffee??!!! Bloody hell!! Broken the bank on that promo, haven't they?!!
  11. From what I can gather from the numerous reports in differing newspapers, he was saying something derrogatory about JC & JN whilst in Magaluf on his stag night. JC's villa is not in Magaluf, but word wormed its way to JC via several sources and he wasn't happy. When asked about it, Langfield basically confirmed what he said by apologising and using the excuse of "it was my stag night, I was pissed! Don't tell me you've not said something you've regretted when you were drunk". It must've been something REALLY REALLY bad if he's been chucked on the scrapheap! Especially since Calderwood rates Langfield so highly
  12. Hmmmm, could do! I feel Calderwood would rather get a permanent replacement in. And with us having fuckall in the bank to spend on transfer fees, that pretty much limits us. I had a wee check on all keepers available on a free around Scotland and England, and this is the list I came up with: Rob Burch (Eng) - Tottenham Hotspur Michael Oakes (Eng) - Wolverhampton Wanderers Mark Crossley (Wal) - Fulham Nathan Abbey (Eng) - Brentford Josh Clapham (Eng) - Plymouth Argyle Stuart Nelson (Eng) - Brentford Laurence Matthewson (Eng) - Manchester City Tony Bullock (Eng) - St Mirren Jeroen Lambers (Ned) - Falkirk Hmmmmm. Not much to choose from really! Burch and Oakes are the only names I really recognise there ... and even then I only know of Oakes cos I used his name as an April Fools signing a few years ago on DandyDons.co.uk. You know .. Oakes ... sounds like Hoax! Perhaps a loan signing is the way to go, unless we look to the continent. Maybe we can pick up a keeper when we're over in Egypt.
  13. If he's the best keeper in Scotland aftter Gordon, then the Scottish national team are royally fucked! I suppose we've got a habit of signing crap keepers with a reputation that's bigger than their ability ... of course I refer to Nicky Walker! Oh yeah, don't even talk to me about Tony Warner!!!!!! But after reading a number of articles regarding the issue, it would appear that JC/JN were not bothered about him being out on his stag night. It was the fact that he apparently said a few very distasteful things about JC & JN, and these words wormed their way back to Calderwood and Nicholl. Needless to say, Langfield's obviously said something sour about Calderwood and Nicholl because, even after apologising, JC has told him to gettae! I'm just very very wary of the fact that there is now a GLARING hole in our team ... goalkeeper. I've not seen Soutar with my own eyes in a Dons top. But I remember him from years ago, and must admit he was the worst keeper I've seen since Nick Colgan. So what now for our keeping-connundrum? Would bringing someone like Preecey back be an option? Or should we just forget about the keepers we know of and look in England and on the continent for someone else? I'm sure Calderwood wouldn't have told Bonny Langfield to gettae without having a backup plan in mind. In a way, I'm kind of glad Jimmy's made an example of Langfield. Kind of tells the rest of the squad that the Dons mean business and will put up with no shite
  14. Is McNamara a suitable replacement? I know he's captained Ra Shellick and all that guff, but he's more suited on either one of the defensive flanks. Russell's a central defender! Have we got adequate cover in the centre if he does decide to have a crack at the big time? Is it about time Diamond finally came of age, dropped his immature side and became the player he was tipped to become some three years ago?
  15. Was it Mido that was Egyptian then? I definitely had one player in Champ Manager a few years ago that was Egyptian ... and I'm sure he was one of those "One Name" Players.
  16. Apparently it was his choice to go amateur whilst he sorted some family stuff out. I'm interested to see what he's got to offer. As MBT suggests, strength in depth and all that. Surely he cannae be as bad as Winter.
  17. True. But you can't blame Russell for wondering what life is like in the Premiership! I actually wouldn't mind him going to the Premiership for two or three years and then coming back to us. It could help him iron out those occasional hiccups he has on the field and make him into the ULTIMATE defender. But then again, can our defence survive a couple of seasons without him?
  18. We'd be happy if it were 40 degrees farenheit. Unfortunately, it's celcius so we're fooked!
  19. What are Egyptian teams like? Are they any good? Am I right in saying that Deco is Egyptian, but switched his allegiances to Portugese or something like that?
  20. Agree with what your saying phil-stellaartois-mcguire. Aberdeen are a debt-laden club, yes. Of that there is no doubt. But, our debt is manageable. Wiggy tightly closed the purse-strings a long time before everyone else in the SPL did so. Everyone laughed at us at the time, saying "hey look, there goes their toaster!" and all that shite. But Wiggy and Wyness stopped our spending before we crashed out of existence. It took a few years for us to climb back up, but we slowly recuperated a bit of money. And when Willie Miller was approached by Wiggy to take the position of Football Director, clearly Miller stipulated that the cost-cutting efforts would have to be directed away from the playing squad if he were to engineer bringing success back to the club. Clearly it's had an immediate and noticable impact as our playing squad has gone from strength to strength year upon year that Miller has been in-charge of football affairs at Pittodrie. Celtic did the same. When Fergus McCann bailed the club out, he refused to let the club spend big on players. Even though Parkhead was full to the brim every fortnight, Fergus refused to let Tommy Burns spend big. Then, when McCann left, his successor basically opened up the purse-strings and realised there was a HUGE amount of money there to burn and let the team manager go out and start purchasing players for large sums and placing players on larger-than-average wages.
  21. Aye spot on! Wiggy didn't make his millions at Stewart Milne Group by writing a load of cheques!
  22. We've been back for a while now, Caledonia. we've not really advertised it yet ... a combination of wanting to make sure the site is stable and fully ready with no glitches ... and not wanting the bampots who once took great delight in tearing the old DT apart to follow the masses and come back here. Being honest, I'm quite happy for them to be over on AFC-Hat as it means there's no childish tit-for-tatting going on here any more.
  23. I think if our squad takes their form from this season into next then we've got a LOT to look forward to. Couple that with the signings of McNamara and De Visscher, who could well prove to be the key individuals who ignite us, and Champions League football is certainly not outwith our grasp!
  24. Aye, Michie was tipped for some BIG things. Basically he was the most prolific striker our youth side had seen since a young Scott Booth graced the Balgownie pitches. He and Mackie were apparently the most devastating partnership in the U18s league. And now look at him ... cannae do a shite cos he's so crap! And fit about O'Donoghue?! I actually thought he was pretty good. The only thing that let him down was he was about 3ft high and weighed about 11kgs. But he was a pretty good footballer ... a comfortable defensive midfielder. Maybe he looked good because he was playing in the latter-Skovahl/early-Paterson days, and in those days everyone whose name wasn't Heikkinen was shite.
  25. Nah. Wasn't stuck in Stoney. I was stuck in Ballachulish on the West Coast. A few of us went there for New Years, and got snowed in. Ended up watching the match in some wee pub in Fort William.
