DonsTalk has been gradually getting up to full speed since it was relaunched . But as many of you will have noticed, we have had periods when the site has been unavailable. Over the next few days, you may notice a higher than normal drop in service. We are currently in the throws of trying out a new server and the move may result in the site being down for a wee while. Please be patient with us as we attemt to make DonsTalk even better. The DonsTalk Team

Again, this beggars belief as to why JDV was left on the bench. He was signed to solve our wing problems, and then Tangoman goes and leave him on the bench for the majority of our first game of the competitive season! :wheres-the-shrug-smiley-when-you-need-it?:

Just noticed that seven of your preferred starting eleven are what we may class as regular goal scorers. Quite impressed with that lineup, and it bemuses me as to how we lost last week! Really, we should've knocked half a dozen past Yooshited. Ho-hum!

This is not a reason to sign a player. I would give more than 100% to the Dons. But I'm the first to admit I'd be shite, regardless of how much effort I put in. If Young always gives 100%, yet still ends up drifting between St Johnstone and Partick Thistle for a year, something tells me he ain't SPL quality, and is struggling to persuade even clubs in the first division that he's worthy of a contract!!

And our forwards arenae really one-dimensional either. Admittedly, we're missing a real tall target-man. But effective and tall targetmen are already on decent wages with other clubs. But what we've got ain't bad at all: Brewster: old and slow, but has a phenomenal footballing brain on him, and knows where the back of the net is Mackie: quick as fuck, and a bit of an opportunist. Not that intelligent though Lovell: clinical. Probably the most naturally gifted striker we have. Quite strong too Miller: Good close control. Inconsistent though Maguire: not fortunate enough to have seen this boy yet. Maybe someone else can comment I don't think the problem is really with our personnel. I think it's more to do with where they are positioned around the park. I mean, defenders in midfield, and midfielders in defence. WTF? Those choices are all down to one man. If you've trained for years to be competent in a particular role, and then all of a sudden your boss says "right, today we're gonna put you into a different department", you're not exactly gonna take to it like a duck to water, are you?

Can't share your optimism . We're going down like a 2 dollar hooker! JC needs to Wake the f&CK UP and realize that the team needs better results. Cheer up, Drew. It's only the first game of the season. We're nae exactly gonna win every match of the season. There's been a fair number of upsets this weekend in the SPL. Who would've thought Falkirk would score FOUR goals against a Gretna side who had something to prove? Who would've thought Hibs would've beaten Hearts 1-0? Who would've thought reigning champions Celtic would've been held at home to a Kilmarnock side whose main goal threat is completely unsettled? We're nae gonna win every match of the season. How often to we win against Craig Levein's sides? Let's just hope this is the shock our boys needed and that they'll march out and trample all over Hearts and fire six past their reserve keeper next weekend.

Do the Toronto Maple Leafs play at Ibrox, or something? Cannae believe the amount of folk who leave Ibrox with 10-15 minutes remaining ... even when it's 1-1 and their team are on the up!

laced with rum? easy on the coffee?

United are covered by www.internetfootball.co.uk, so a small fee in the region of something like three quid will get you the game's audio. It'll be on at 2am on Sunday morning for me. Too bloody early ... but I'll still be there to listen to it ... somehow.

Dammit! I read that topic headline with the hope that JC had taken a wee peak at DonsTalk and realised just how big a mistake he'd made in signing Derek Young, and had decided to relieve him of his contract. FÃn get my hopes up, ya bassa!!!

Barca to snub Hearts & Arabs for the dons?
Reekie_Red replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Hehe, might as well have a trip to New Zealand, if that's the case. Mind you, the year the Dons went to Portugal for their pre-season, they were apparently offered a trip to New Zealand for their pre-season. Would be awesome if they came here. They'd be in good hands too, as Bobby Clark is over here and helps out heaps with kids "soccer", as it's still called over here ... primarily because "footy" in New Zealand is what everyone else calls Rugby League. -
Nah. More like "This Year's Derek Young"

Pretty decent top JC is wearing. What top is that? It's obviously nae the new third top, cos it's nae stripey. It's almost like the bastard offspring of the away top from our centenary season and our away top from the 99/00 season.

Ãf he wanted to get somewhere in his career, other than skipping from part-time club to part-time club every four months, then he should've kept his fitness up to a standard fitting of a player who wants to play in the SPL.

Barca to snub Hearts & Arabs for the dons?

TBH I'd rather we played meaningful games against Inverurie Locos, Elgin City and Montrose each summer so that we can tinker with tactics without fear of running a whole 90 minutes without touching the ball ... as Hearts apparently did! Sure they scored a goal, but from what I have read in multiple reports, scoring was about the only touch Hearts had for the entire game. How effective is that sort of pre-season training going to be for Hearts? -

Doubt if he knows if there is ANYTHING north of Stirling!!! -
What would you like to see implemented on DonsTalk?

I think too many bridges have been burned between The Hat and DT users. The Hat was originally the creation of the users who were banned from DT. As such, there's never likely to be a united forum, unless we all ran under one banner but kept each other at arms length. But ... when talking about integration with other AFC sites, I wasn't suggesting we merge with The Hat. I have other plans in mind ........ -

Exactly, LR. We don't expect to win the UEFA Cup. It'd be nice to, to say the least! But I don't know a single Dons fan who expects us to get past the group stages. If we can get into the group stages and give a half-decent account of ourselves, then I think most of us will be happy. What we would like, however, is a trip to Hampden or two. And to give as good an account of ourselves in the league this term as we did last. If we finish third, we'll be happy! If we finish anything above third, we will be on cloud-nine! But we gave up the idea of being European Big Guns two decades ago. The only people who seem to think we think this is the central belt media ... as this Ewing Grahame reitterates. (BTW what sort of a name is Ewing Grahame? It's like he has a first name for a last name, and a last name for a first! He's just been bitter and twisted from birth because his stoned parents wrote the names in the wrong box at the birth registrar. And now that Livingston FC are shite again, he's got to take his frustrations out on someone else. Easiest target in Scottish football? Aberdeen FC!) -
Yeah, not exactly the sort of things you want to admit. So he admits he's had a lazy summer when he COULD'VE been trying his best to get himself in-shape to win a contract that's a club that's a bit bigger and better than Hamilton Accies. Kind of sets the tone for what he has accepted as his level. And not expecting to start in the first team. Excuse me, Derek. But I'd expect EVERY player at the club to WANT AND EXPECT a place in the starting lineup. If you are not hacked off at not having a place in the starting eleven, then you obviously don't have the fight to challenge those players who are being picked ahead of you. I've got massive respect for Darren Mackie, as he got dropped, and then worked his ass off to get back into first-team contention. He dropped a whole load of bad habits and got his head down and stuck in to bringing his level back up to an acceptable standard. If Young's taking a place on the bench as being "enough". then he is not good enough to be at the club ... again!
-
Who would've thought even 18 months ago that we'd be happy to tying Foster up on a longer contract? Oh how times change!!
-
Couldnae believe this shite being written by Ewing Grahame of The Scotsman. What an absolute joke! He's talking about all the doom and gloom surrounding the Dons at the moment. What doom and gloom? The only doom and gloom surrounding the Dons at the moment is his imagination. Has this joke of a journalist ever been to Pittodrie? Does he even know how to get to anything that's north of Inverkiething? http://sport.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=1181082007

I wouldnae go that far mate. Wiggy's nae greedy. He'd rather the Dons worked their own way out of debt, rather than pumping his own millions in and us expecting him to pump millions in every time we need help. Just nae happy that we've gone and signed Young though. I pin this blame fully on JC, as he's the guy who took Young off our hands in the first place, and he's the guy who took him back. Milne's probably had very very little to do with this deal.
-
GK.... Langfield (because what other choice do we really have?) RB..... McNamara CB.... Hart LB.... Foster RW.... Clark CM.... Nicholson CM.... Severin (JC, don't waste him in defence, please!! He's one of the most effective midfielders we have) LW.... De Visscher CAM... J Smith CF.... Lovell CF.... Miller/ Mackie Bench: Kelly; Diamond (still has to prove himself, tbh); Considine; Mair; Maguire; Brewster; Miller/Mackie (note no place on the bench for Young yet. That boy has to do a HELL of a lot of work to get into my good books)

Only player of that generation I'd ever take back is Anderson. Rowson was handy when he was on-form, but the Youngs were part of the poison that was killing our club. I was glad when we saw the back of the pair of them, and couldnae believe my eyes when I read that someone wanted to take BOTH of them off our hands. Fuck, I thought it was Christmas!!! Now we've got one back, I'm living in fear that both will come back. If we need someone who's a character in the dressing room, perhaps we should hire Bobby Ball. Nae this tube!
