A few years back i was playing 5's in a tournament in inverness. One of the teams managed to get the then ict manager john robertson down to play for them. Little cunt to play against, really strong on the ball and was pinging them in from all over. Some players are just more able to get into a game quickly than others when coming off the bench. To me this would be a combination of instinct and, as you say, having enough upstairs when watching from the sidelines to figure out how to go about the business when taken on.

Replacement for fergahun perhaps? The guy is clearly talented but the current hype is pretty much all based on 4 goals in as many games, the last two being pretty tasty obviously helps

I remember the hearts game roundabout christmas my mate said it was starting to get embarassing how much JDV was taking the hearts full back to the cleaners. Both were classy players (relative to the league they were playing in) who had the ability to put their foot on the ball and pick a pass. Both in the infinite wisdom of mr calderwood were rarely used. i never understood why.

The worst part was he was finally putting in some decent performances. I always quite liked JDV, never understood why JC never played him especially as you say when smith is contributing very little due to injury
