Scotland's Game - BBC1 Thursday 25.8.16
tom_widdows replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Last one seems to be about the grass roots and possible future of the game There was a clip of Craig Brown on Radio Scotland this morning bemoaning that his proposal to emulate Gerrard Houlier's policy in French football was blocked by the Fido dido's and tribute act as it would 'hold them back in Europe. Found this from November 2015 -
I fear Stockley has been 'marked' by the Scottish Refs already so his strength will just lead to defenders getting free kicks.

Contrast from last season 2015/16 Played: 5 Won: 5 Goals for: 9 Goals against: 1 Points: 15 2016/17 Played: 5 Won: 1 Drawn: 3 Lost: 1 Goals For: 4 Goals Against: 6 Points: 6 I find myself hitting my head against the brick wall with McInnes and what seems to be a blatant refusal to change anything.

Right has anyone been watching or listening to the game as I only have BBC live text and according to the stats there have been no shots on goal by either team

I only lived in the city for about 6 years but I got the impression the football club was seen as more of an inconvenience. I seem to recall Leeds united having a similar issue with their local council My theory is since Aberdeen is a fairly rich city the ties to 'the working mans game' and possibly any sport will never be as strong. Liverpool on the other hand hand being historically a 'working city' (No laughing at the back) with the shipyard etc (much like Newcastle, Sunderland, Glasgow, Sheffield, Manchester) and Football was and possibly still is an escape for the masses and each city recognises the impact a decline in their teams fortunes can have on the population. Aberdeen's success or decline doesn't seem to bother anyone in charge of the city.....but then again the rumours of corruption in ACC beggar belief. The other issue is the Scotland wide problem of the Old Firm Glory hunting magnet. Too many folk born and bred in Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth will support one of them with the reason being 'oh its a family thing'. Thank fuck my family didn't have the same 'rule' other wise Id be stuck with Plymouth Argyle.

Dont think u can really compare the two cities in terms of football fanatacism

Budge has certainly adopted a much more sensible approach to the redevelopment. Strange (and actually refreshing IMO) is the lack of enclosed corporate boxes. I'll be interested to see how the planners view the loss of the existing car park at the back of the old stand

The defending is still seriously suspect. I doubt Lithuania, Slovenia, Slovakia & England will be as kind with their attacking

3-1 So much for this new 'rule' about denying a goal-scoring chance only resulting in a red card if it is outside the box

Dirthy Filthy Hun Scumbag Vermin (deceased) and Poundland tribute act
tom_widdows replied to mizer's topic in Football Chat
I accept he may never have been the same player but the press and other outlets stating the tackle 'ended his career' is factually incorrect and is banded about way too often. By that logic Scott Murdoch ended Eoin Jess's career -

Tackle happened in 1988 Durrant continued to play for Rangers, Everton & finally Kilmarnock until 2002. Played for scotland until 2000 -
And if Celtic hadn't scored 4 it would have been a 1-0 win. Was he possessed by the ghost of Jim Farry?
-
19 year old winger who just left Nottingham Forrest for Red Bull Leipzig for £13million. I presume he will vanish from the squad sharpish

Scotland's Game - BBC1 Thursday 25.8.16

Dear god there was some despicable clips in that show. Almost makes me glad my interest in Football didn't start until 1994. Looking forward to next weeks -
As in Charlie ' I dont give a fuck about Aberdeen' Mulgrew?

Barcelona (Spain), Manchester City (England), Borussia Monchengladbach (Germany), Celtic (Scotland).

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. Also will allow the Tic to continue spending outwith their means which continues the 'fuck you' attitude to all the other Scottish clubs who have downsized their squads/ staff etc in order to be financially stable. I think yon new Scottish football documentary will cover the pre Fergus McCann years at some point and have to wonder how many Tic Fans will take heed from their own history as many seem to be blissfully ignorant of what happened to their neighbours across the Clyde.

The parking situation baffles me and not just for the stadium. I really don't understand what Aberdeen (the city) is trying to achieve It takes me back to Uni days when we discovered RGU's campus down at Garthdee only obtained planning permission by keeping parking to the absolute bare minimum. The council then brought in permit/ voucher parking all around the campus and made it extremely difficult to buy the vouchers. The city is a transport nightmare and yet rather that trying to rectify it with logical thought the plan always seems to be 'it we don't provide parking then people will simply walk/ take the bus' forgetting that thanks to the gridlocked streets the bus service breaks down and humans are lazy. Could have left it at Cove and forked out an additional 3million to re-open the old Cove Railway station but noooo. Even doing that would have resolved everything but would have at least provided an alternative transport and perhaps even taken some rush-hour cars off the streets by providing a regular service into and out of the city centre.

I'm sure the Maltese are shitting themselves in anticipation of the 5-4-1 lead by Fletcher. Tom English tweeted 'Steven Fletcher: 1 club goal in his last 25 games. Ross McCormack: 9 club goals in his last 25 games.'
