If there was any dodgy CGI in the 1977, 1980 and 1983 ones then they were doctored.

Broadhill Bar to be converted to £1m restuarant and cafe
tom_widdows replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Not really Pubs next to stadiums can be very hit and miss. Make lots of money on match days but tank the rest of the time. They get a reputation which doesn't tend to bode well for attracting casual customers. Broadhill's location doesn't really suit it for a mainstream pub (No-one's touched it for 3+ years) and the amount it would cost to run may never have been worth the hassle It would be a nice to think the locally based Fans would openly choose to drink there all the time if the funds were going to the club but I doubt it woudl have lasted. Perhaps the real opportunity wasted is this was part of the site of the new 'community' stadium in the Aberdeen City masterplan of about 10 years ago. -
Budge tells Hearts fans - Tynecastle might be sold for flats
tom_widdows replied to mizer's topic in Football Chat
Have to say the main stand at Tynecastle is a death trap, more so than the Main at Pittodrie. Hearts probably have even less chance of redeveloping it to the same capacity given how boxed in they are. -
in terms of 4,5 & 6 did you see the actual originals or the shite doctored ones Lucas jacked out to fund his pension about 20 years ago?

End of january will be an interesting time should they still be trading. Fixture list from Christmas time - February 1st Hibernian (away) Dumbarton (home) Alloa (away) (Managed to draw with them twice so far) Hearts (home) Cowdenbeath (away) Celtic (cup) now if only Hibs or Queen of the South can get some consistency going. -
Glasgow twins accured of lack of action on secteranism

I'd say we should be asking why the government etc still continues to give them the money if they are making no effort? -

http://committees.aberdeencity.gov.uk/documents/s39105/CG14087%20Safety%20Certificate%20Pittodrie%201.7.14.pdf Seems that while the capacity on paper is 21,847 the club only has a safety certificate for 20,897 people Skip down to page 36 to see the problems the club have

Not seen BD for a whiile Manc but is your scheme for a sports stadium? The concourse at the back of the RDS is there for a reason. Evacuation of up to 6500 people close to a busy public road which must remain open at all times.

Pittodrie street isnt the only problem. The residents of Pittodrie Place and The Golf club will also have a big say in any attempts to build a modern main stand with the same capacity as the current one plus all the relevant admin facilities. Daylighting & 'Overlooking issues', emergency & service vehicle access not just to the stadium but to the neighbouring buildings, and of course needing to find a place for the car-parking spaces lost in the works all spring to mind. The club didnt just miss a trick not buying the gas works, they also missed a trick not buying the land behind the merkland where the flats now are (and used to be a timber yard I think). However hindsight is a wonderful thing and back in the early 90s had the club announced they were spending the playing budget on extra land around the stadium just incase they had the desire to build another RDS or 2 I dont think it would have gone down very well with the fans. Especially given they were now in debt for the RDS and the Main stand was in such a state. Mind you it might have stopped Aitken spending £850k on Brian O Neil, or Miller spending £300k on Nigel pepper and £750k+ Billy Dodds on Robbie Winters......we probably would have missed out on Billy Dodds, Paul Bernard, John Inglis & Peter Hetherston too given they combined cost £2,350,000. With regards to the 5 years on the Main stand comment I personally take that as meaning 'we have 5 years before it starts costing us serious money to keep open'

I'm a 'Lets actually think about the whole thing properly, weigh up the initial and long term costs of both options, produce a detailed report and then put our a poll to the fans rather than turning this into another thing to split the fans

anyone care to enlighten those of us not in the know? -
Unfortunately its all up to the player and frankly the history or professional footballers when it comes to signing for clubs who are in serious financial shite but still offer them a high salary doesn't bode well.

I agree which is why I would like to see the sketch proposals for the new stadium on the site of the Broadhill bar and Driving Range resurrected but even that has serious issues with regards to modern regulations. However Aberdeen's quest to have the most flats and shopping malls per person in Europe has left little to no land in or around the city centre which is large enough to accommodate a Football Stadium. The neglected Broadford works site is the only one I can think of but even that is too small for a modern 20000 seat stadium and the road infrastruture would never get it past the planning stage. An ideal spot could have been the railway yard on which now site Union square. Redeveloping Pittodrie inline with the current planning & building regulations will drastically lower the capacity so its either that or moving out of town. The AECC site is a non starter without the Bypass and Loriston I just cant see working unless they cough up another 3million and pay to re-build the railway station at Cove (might be an option if the debt is gone) I dont know what the best option would be (redevelopment or new) but just staying at Pittodrie in its current state is a license to burn money.Personally I'd like to see a redeveloped reduced capacity pittodrie however that will require another loan from the bank and there will be no room for extension should it ever be required.

Please fuck can we not start this again. We apparently get debt free and yet the plan is to continue to spend hundreds of thousands continually repairing buildings which will eventually have parts deemed unsafe by the Fire service & HSE thereby reducing the capacity and one of the main streams of revenue?
